Not up to scratch

Eken babu sleuths around a murder mystery in the misty slopes of Darjeeling along with Pramatha and Bapi. What could go wrong with a premise like this? Well this. The script could have been so much tighter, the characters could have been developed more before making them slide between the good-bad barrier. Some of the dialogs are stale and lack punch. I feel Somak and Suhotro are a waste in their roles. We all know from the Somak-Agni clips what magic Somak can weave with his acting...and those who have seen Gora know Suhotro's potential too. These two could have been given better dialogues and more involvement in the plot instead of just hanging around the protagonist saying lame and obvious things.

The storyline doesnt come together with a click the way it happens in good whodunnits. My rating of 6 is just because of Anirban Chakraborti's acting and presence. The fellow never ceases to entertain.

Entertaining thriller

We the Bengalis grew up watching/reading feluda or bomkesh; for us it's really hard to accept another detective. But Eken babu is different. After all this time I really loved watching a Bengali thriller.

It has the perfect blend of comedy, mystery. Acting is more of less good( a bit of over acting here and there but that's tolerable). And eken babu is just perfect, his comic timing, expressions everything left me laughing my heart out Just go to the theatre and have a nice time.

The 7 is for Anirban Chow!

The seasons are far better! Should have changed the assistant characters, Bappi and Promotho were complete flop and useless. No character development, use of too much unnecessary characters, not focusing on any single or prospective suspect(s), which usually gives the audience the perspective that x is the killer and in final scene you see no it was always y, hiding in the shadows and pulling the strings, for e.g the Burman case of Eken.

In short a futile attempt, jeopardising the reputation of such a great series.

Ps..bring back the old Bappi and Promotho!

Couldn't meet expectations

Eken is now familiar to all who watched the SVF web series on Hoichoi. So expectations on the first movie was extremely high, but the Eken hardly could meet it. The new Bappy & Pramatha in the film was not up to the mark and sometimes looks unnecessary in the plot. Eken's humours sometimes weren't spontaneous, some overacting. On the whole, Eken seems gloomy compare to web series version.

Not as expectations

The movie is good overall. But sorry to say the starting is not as expected. We don't want Eken to be what it is shown in firs half hour. Also the casting is not much good. But of course it will entertain anybody. Because the storyline is good . Ekenbabu's acting and body reaction is very good. He may be used more Welly. ... Do Not provides too much suspence. But when ekenbabu was first shown in webseries. It was a fabulous start . But the way eken introduced in movie is not much good. May be it would be much more appreciable if makers would have been spent much more time in making. Overall you may watch the series first to have an good feelings over ekenbabu. The character is really good.

An Excellent Entertainer with a neat Direction

THE EKEN: Movie -------------------------------- A Review by Swami AD Nillanjan Nandy

No loose ends... Darjeeling captured in all it's glory... The plot definitely thickens.... Anirban and other junior cast also has done a great job in the newly released whodunnit THE EKEN, Directed by Joydeep Mukherjee... The title tugs at my purse strings to buy a roundtrip ticket to Bagdogra, and book a hotel around the Raj Bhavan Darjeeling.

Characters of Indra, Jayanta Biswas, Aditya, Bubun, Jiten comes out like Silver foil embodied on a statue, standing out all raised like hackles... The suspense is palpable...and the unseen unknown locations of Darjeeling, in drizzling rain and creepy darkness, are suuperb!

I believe, that Movies are entirely a directors medium: be it TRISHUL, KAALA PATTHAR, KABHIE KABHIE, JOHNY MERA NAAM, CHHOTI SI BAAT, ABHIMAAN, HUM KISISE KUM NAHIN, DEEWAR, BADDHAI HO, CHANDNI BAR OR ARANYER DIN RATRI.... HERE IN THE CASE OF A FUN FILLED COMMERCIAL FILM LIKE "THE EKEN" JOYDEEP MUKHERJEE HAS PROVED HIMSELF AS RISHTEY MEIN TOH HUM TUMHARE BAAP HOTE HAI.... IN FULL AND FINAL GLORY... HE GAVE US FIR IN THE PUJAS 2021, AND NOW THIS.... MY HEARTFELT THANKS SND KUDOS TO THE ENTIRE TEAM AND MY BRO, Joydeep Mukherjee !!!

Anirban Chakraborti rocks !! Good clean whodunnit !!

Film Review : The Eken Streaming on Hoichoi #sanjuzzreviews #TheEken #hoichoi #SVF

Eken Babu (Anirban Chakraborti), the famous detective goes to Darjeeling for a vacation with his side-kicks Promotho & Bapi but gets embroiled in a mystery concerning the disappearance of an antique stone Bishnu Idol & a precious stamp. He also reluctantly accepts a second case which involves the murder of an employee of a well known hotel in Darjeeling. Are all these cases connected ? Will Eken Babu be able to connect all the dots and solve the mystery ?

This film has a perfect blend of comedy & mystery that keeps the viewers engaged throughout. A clean film without sex, blood and gore. A treat for the entire family.

The misty locales in Darjeeling have been beautifully captured and the film gives us a virtual tour of the hill station.

Anirban Chakraborti is brilliant as the protagonist and carries the film on his fragile shoulders all throughout . Subtle humor inserted between serious scenes is not over the top and the banter between Eken, Promotho and Bapi is fun to watch. Payel Sarkar as actress Bipasha has a small role but does well. Casting is perfect overall.

Ladies & Gentlemen ....after Byomkesh & Feluda, make way for Eken Babu , the small, unassuming detective with a brilliant mind, capable of solving the most difficult cases with a smile on his face. He's here to stay for sure!! Eagerly waiting for the next installment of the franchise!!

Enjoyable film .. go for it 👍 My Rating 3.5/5 .... Adios 🙂
