I love playing side scrollers on portable formats for some reason. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing but River City Rivals is giving a nostalgia fix and I dig it.
River City Ransom is a favorite classic game of mine from the Nes era. Originally a Japanese title called Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari it debuted in the U.S. in April of 1989. Side scrolling beat em ups are my jam and it generally these days except in indie titles has gone away. But here comes my Nintendo DS to the rescue. River City Rival Showdown from Natsume will be released this November on Nintendo DS platforms at $29.99 and retail include a special keychain while supplies last.
The game is a celebration of the original title but has added much more elements including an RPG style with different paths determining the ending.

It’s a Pixar tradition that sits right up there alongside the Pizza Planet Truck, A113 and the iconic Luxo Ball – the beloved animated short that comes tethered with each new release.
For Inside Out, we had Lava; Toy Story 3 heralded the arrival of Day and Night; while The Good Dinosaur introduced the world to Sanjay’s Super Team. Now, it is (almost) Finding Dory‘s turn to usher in a new bite-sized yarn.
Set to make a beeline for theaters on June 17, it’s been revealed that Andrew Stanton’s long-anticipated sequel will be accompanied by Piper, the cutesy animation that “tells the story of a hungry sandpiper hatchling who ventures from her nest for the first time to dig for food by the shoreline.”

Michael Jackson made bigger records than Off the Wall, but he arguably never made a better one — the album's masterful fusion of funk, disco, pop and Quiet Storm R&B captures the singer at his most effervescent. A deluxe edition of the record arrives February 26th, accompanied by a new documentary, Michael Jackson's Journey From Motown to Off the Wall, helmed by Spike Lee, who also directed a movie about the 25th anniversary of Bad. From Motown to Off the Wall premiered at Sundance in January, and it airs on Showtime February 5th.

There's a moment about one-third of the way through Spike Lee's new documentary Michael Jackson's Journey From Motown to Off the Wall in which the Jackson estate's archivist pulls out a yellowed, frayed letter and reads aloud. Written after Michael and his brothers, collectively known as the Jackson 5, had left Motown and were recording under the name the Jacksons, the future King of Pop is jotting down various aspirational goals: He wants to get into the movies, he wants to explore all musical styles and directions, he wants...

Pixar short film: Those three words bring to mind clever, charming little movies like “For the Birds,” “Geri’s Game,” and, of course, “Luxo Jr.” With the latest in that line of animated shorts, “Sanjay’s Super Team,” Pixar is going in a few new directions, with both story and animation style. “Super Team” will screen in front of “The Good Dinosaur,” Pixar’s new feature opening in theaters this Wednesday. It’s a very personal story. Similar could be said of “La Luna,” the short paired with 2012’s “Brave.” But with “Sanjay’s Super Team,” Pixar head John Lasseter encouraged director Sanjay Patel to make the short even more personal and more directly based on his childhood than his earlier versions of the film, and Patel was surprised that the studio wanted his name to be in the title. The short tells the story of little Sanjay, who is...

Day and night! Solange Knowles and Bella Thorne are both fans of the Schutz "Karlyanna" caged knee-high heel, but clearly, the two ladies have very different thoughts on how to style them. Going a more traditional route, Knowles, 29, laced up her fishnet-style boots (which retail for $395) underneath a long-sleeved, white lace dress to take in the 3.1 Phillip Lim show at New York Fashion Week on Monday, Sept. 14. White shades and natural curls completed her ensemble. Taking a more metropolitan approach, Thorne, 17, hit the [...]...

For many Doctor Who fans Rose Tyler is the most defining companion of the revived series, and some would even say of all time. She’s definitely left her stamp on the Doctor Who mythology, not only for playing an important part in bringing back the series but for being the one who has arguably left the biggest impression on the Doctor than any of her predecessors to date.
Meeting the Doctor wasn’t just a dream come true for Rose, it was also a dream come true for her real life alter ego, Billie Piper, who up to that point had only managed to secure a string of small roles after deciding to pursue an acting career.
Then Doctor Who came along but to say it made her a household name wouldn’t be entirely true. She was already known – but not necessarily loved – for her previous singing...

The marketing campaign for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah is continuing today with four new TV spots, an IMAX poster and full details on Mr. Clint Mansell’s soundtrack. It’s a lot, but Paramount wants to make sure that they get people into theatres for this one. The film isn’t an easy sell, and given that it’s sure to cause quite a bit of controversy, the studio is doing everything in their power to get people on board with Aronofsky’s latest before it arrives.
Having seen Noah, I can tell you two things. And that’s pretty much all I can tell you since I’m under embargo. One, is that Mansell delivers another excellent score here. Intense, powerful and moving, it fits the film beautifully and is absolutely a highlight.

Show of hands -- how many people watched the original "Alien," with its slick, biomechanical horrors courtesy of Swiss illustrator H.R. Giger and thought, Gee, I'd like to grab a drink there sometime? Well, you're in luck, because a so-called Giger Bar is coming stateside.
That's right, soon you'll be able to sip your favorite adult beverage while underneath a domed ceiling composed of what appears to be human spinal columns, while keeping an eye out for any acid-blooded xenomorph that might want to make you its after-dinner cocktail.
So far, there are two Giger Bars in the world, both in Switzerland. One is in Giger's hometown, which opened back in 1992, and the other is in the Museum H.R. Giger, which is sort of like the Smithsonian except its able to produce several months of horrifying nightmares (and weird sex dreams). Strangler of the Swamp
Written by Frank Wisbar and Harold Erickson
Directed by Frank Wisbar
USA, 1946
“Old legends – strange tales – never die in the lonely swampland. Villages and hamlets lie remote and almost forgotten. Small ferryboats glide between the shores, and the ferryman is a very important person. Day and night he is at the command of his passengers. On his little barge ride the good and the evil; the friendly and the hostile; the superstitious and the enlightened; the living and – sometimes – the dead.”
In Frank Wisbar’s Strangler of the Swamp, townspeople mourn the loss of members of the community who have died via strangulation. The deaths have caused a rift in the community. Some believe the rational explanation that people have died as a result of their own foolhardiness in the swamp. Others know better. They suspect that “The Strangler,” a ghost of an innocent man the town hanged,...

The 27-year-old actress told Day and Night at the UK premiere of her upcoming biopic 'LoveLace' that banning porn would not work, the Daily Express reported.
The actress stated that you can't put a ban on it, as underage kids were still drinking.
She said that porn will always exist, and people should be free to watch whatever we want.
Seyfried also said that there are issues how porn films are made and produced, as some are safe and positive, whereas there is trouble.

Among the less hyped films at Iffi 2012 was a remarkable documentary uniformly applauded by the people who saw it – a film about sport but neither involving sporting celebrities nor about the excitement of international sport. Algorithms is, instead, about three blind chess players from India and the man who is mentoring them. Filmed over three years from just before the World Junior Blind Chess Championship in Sweden in 2009 to just after the next championship in Greece in 2011, it follows three talented boys from different parts of India and a blind player-turned-pioneer who wants all blind children to play chess. Competitive chess is a grueling game but could prove compensatory to those with physical disadvantages.

The Movie Pool takes a long look at the short films of Pixar from their new Blu-ray!
The Set-up
Short films from Pixar, many featuring characters from the studio's feature fims, are presented.
The Delivery
This second collection of short films from Pixar features 12 cartoons in stunning high definition. Many of the shorts were previously available on Pixar home video releases (including "Hawaiian Vacation" and "Air Mater"), and three are Academy Award nominees.
What we get in Volume 2 of the series is an eclectic mix of styles and approaches, and for the most part, it all works well. While some are mildly amusing, others (like "Day and Night") are exceptional, that entertain and manage to be original.
The shorts included in the collection are:
"Your Friend the Rat" Ratatouille's Remy and Emile provide the disgusting yet funny history of rats. Director Jim Capobianco and production designer Nate Wragg provide an optional audio commentary.

1.) While recent news confirmed the Safety Not Guaranteed creative team of Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly to be working on a remake of Flight of the Navigator for Disney, Connolly has also been working on a project for Pixar for almost a year. While we know nothing of a plot or even a title, we do know the director is Teddy Newton, who directed Day and Night, the short that played before Toy Story 3. Pixar projects take longer to see the light of day than most movies, so we probably won't see this mystery project for another 5 years. Still, it's reassuring to know that despite that whole Brave fiasco, the Pixar higher-ups have told Connolly "not to dumb it down or treat animation like it's for kids." Variety 2.) It looks as if Safety Not Guaranteed screenwriter Derek Connolly is carving out quite the creative home over at Disney. Connolly made waves with the indie dramedy Safety Not Guaranteed earlier this year, and just this week we learned that Connolly and Safety director Colin Trevorrow have been drafted by The Mouse House to rewrite the remake of Flight of the Navigator. Now it turns out that Connolly has actually been working at Pixar for the better part of this year, penning a new feature film for the animated studio. Hit the jump for more details. Per Variety, Connolly moved to Emeryville, California shortly after Sundance to develop an untitled feature at the studio. He’s since been working on the film for director Teddy Newton, who helmed the fantastic Pixar short Day and Night and looks to be making his feature debut on this project. Connolly spoke with Variety...

Though Sundance success Safety Not Guaranteed has played well in the Us, we in the UK don’t get to see it until Boxing Day. But the film’s creative team, including director Colin Treverrow and writer Derek Connolly, have been reaping the rewards for months. Treverrow has been courted for several films (and was even rumoured as a possible Star Wars candidate) and Connolly has been working with a little company called Pixar on one of their still-bubbling projects. Though the film he’s writing for Teddy Newton (who directed the short Day And Night) is being kept under wraps by the secrecy-loving Emeryville gang, he’s enthusiastic about the experience so far. "It's totally different, the way they do things up here,” he tells Variety. “You're here everyday. You don't go away for three months and come up with a script. You're involved with a director and it's very collaborative.

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. Extraordinary production design by Dante Ferretti and another evocative,...

Ready for a fight? Michael Jackson would've been 54 years old today, so instead of dwelling on bizarro distractions like Conrad Murray, Debbie Rowe, or the legendary La Toya, let's brawl about the one thing that will always matter about the King of Pop: the music. Time to rank his 54 best tunes, and that includes his Jackson 5/Jacksons stuff. It doesn't include his cameo vocal in Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," however.
Can I just say how difficult it is to pick Michael Jackson's 54 best songs? I could've focused more on his Jackson 5-era stuff, but I think it's only right to give Thriller and Off the Wall most of the attention. Without further ado, here are my picks for Michael Jackson's 54 greatest songs. Your job? School me with dissent.
54. "You Are Not Alone"
53. "Will You Be There"
52. "Speed Demon"
51. "Ben"
50. "Dangerous"
49. "Why You Wanna Trip On Me...

As we approach the dog days of summer, one might expect things to slow down on the Internet. But one would be very, very wrong, since the Internet never stops working. Day and night, there are always movie stills and infographics and red band trailers and spoofs and web series episodes and everything in between uploaded to the ‘Netz just for you, so don’t think we’ve stopped paying attention just because we’re dying of heat stroke. This week, Girls met "Boys," John Goodman went gay (kind of), and a couple of cats proved to be nothing short of superheroic.

The North Carolina village that doubled as District 12 in The Hunger Games is up for sale - because the owner is sick of visitors.

Owner Wade Shepherd tells the Associated Press, "I'm getting too many visitors. Day and night, they're driving through, taking pictures, getting out and walking. I'm just bombarded with people."...

The Hunger Games' District 12 has been put up for sale. Henry River Mill Village, a 72-acre plot of land in North Carolina that served as the location for the film's District 12, is available for $$1.4m (£880,000), according to The AP. Owner Wade Shepherd revealed that the upswing in tourism motivated him to sell the abandoned locale. "I'm getting too many visitors," he said. It's no secret that fans everywhere love "The Hunger Games," which over the last couple of weeks has earned roughly the gross national product of a small country.
So it's also no surprise that just about everyone is trying to cash in on the "Hunger Games" craze however they can, with people selling everything from "Hunger Games" t-shirts and pins to nail polish and Barbie dolls.
But here's something that is a surprise: Someone is actually selling the entire town used as District 12 in the film.
Bet you don't have one of those in your "Hunger Games" collection.
So just how do you go about buying an entire town? Well, according to The Guardian, the process is pretty simple: You come up with $1.4 million and give it to an 83-year-old man named Wade Shepard, who currently owns Henry River Mill Village, the town that was used as District 12 in the movie.

Abandoned mill town in North Carolina that was used as a film location for The Hunger Games is on the market for $1.4m
An abandoned mill town in North Carolina that was used to film key scenes in box-office smash The Hunger Games has been put up for sale by its owner for $1.4m.
Henry River Mill Village, which covers 72 acres, was used by producers to shoot scenes in District 12, where the film's heroine Katniss Everdeen lives in Gary Ross's dystopian science-fiction film. The mill itself, which produced fine yarn, closed some time in the 1960s and the last resident moved out in 1987. The building burned down in 1977, but more than 20 others remain including the company store which doubled for the family bakery where Everdeen encounters Peeta Mellark in a flashback scene.
"I'm getting too many visitors," the ghost town's owner, Wade Shepherd, 83, of Transylvania County told the Associated Press.

Raleigh, N.C. — Fans of "The Hunger Games" are already turning up in North Carolina, seeking out places where the movie was shot, from old-growth forests to an abandoned mill town.
And the tourism industry is prepared to cash in on them, with everything from hotel packages and zip lines tours, to re-enactments of scenes from the film and lessons in survival skills.
The movie, which opens this weekend and is expected to be a box office smash, is based on a best-selling book about a post-apocalyptic world where teenagers compete to the death in fighting games.
It was filmed entirely in North Carolina, from the mountains, where fake trees were planted, filled with propane and blown up, to Charlotte, which served as the Capitol from the story – the seat of power where the teens are sent for training.
Also prominently featured in the movie is the Henry River Mill Village near Hildebran,...

The next film from Monsters, Inc. and Up director Pete Docter is still quite a mystery -- we've known next to nothing about the plot and characters -- hell, we don't even have a title. The movie is likely meant to occupy one of the two dates that Disney and Pixar have penciled in for the next couple years (November 27, 2013 and May 30, 2014), probably the later date. We've heard that the script is by Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) and is about "the formation of ideas." That latter point seems pretty spacy, but new comments from Pixar head John Lasseter make things a lot more clear. During an appearance on Charlie Rose [1], Lasseter said, Pete Docter, from Monsters, Inc. and Up, is doing a new film that takes place inside of a girl’s mind and it is about her emotions as characters, and that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

London, Nov 11: 'Queen' guitarist Brian May has revealed that his clean-living ways are behind allowing him to have enjoyed such a long and prosperous career.
While speaking to Day and Night at the Classic Rock Roll of Honor, the 64-year-old musician also said that he is remarkably un-rock 'n' roll when it comes to behaviour normally associated with life on the road.
"You don't have to be drunk or stoned to enjoy music," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
"I didn't take the drugs and I was always very glad that I didn't because life has been real for me, all the thrills were real and not chemically induced,".

Michael C here to give you a sneak peak of a Pixar pleasure headed your way soon.
High on the long list of reasons to love Pixar is their devotion to bringing top quality animated shorts to the movie-going masses, a tradition they are keeping alive pretty much single-handedly. And they are on a roll too. With such titles as Presto, Cloudy Day and the great Day and Night, my love of which I’ve already documented here, they are developing a body a body of work to stand beside the great catalogues of classic Disney and Warner Bros. cartoons.
Now having attended a sneak of La Luna, the new short most of America will see attached to Brave, I am pleased to report they have another winner on their hands. La Luna is a fable about young boy caught in an inter-generational conflict as he joins his Papa and...

London, Nov 5: Myleene Klass wants celebrities to be better role models to young girls, as she is horrified by the example set by some famous females on her daughters.
The 33-year-old media personality has called on fellow celebrity women to stop "playing stupid" and show young fans that there is more to life than fitting into a size-zero dress.
"It is our job and my job as a mother of two girls to inspire women and put out a positive message," the daily Express quoted Klass as telling Day and Night magazine.
"Women are getting rewarded for playing stupid or marrying a footballer and thinking it's all right to stand.

The album, sorry, "musical tapestry," is entitled Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, and it will feature reworked versions of some of Jackson's most beloved hits, mash-ups and never-before-released outtakes of the late King of Pop's tunes.
Among the latter is an alternate take on the Jackson 5 staple "ABC" and a choir-assisted rendition of "They Don't Care About Us."

"They dance for him, they yearn for him, they die for him …" From Russia with Love is not only arguably the best of the Bond films, it set the template for all that followed, right down to the corny one-liners. Ok, so our Obsessed With Pixar month has so far been dominated with the studio’s exceptional feature film output, but their roots lie firmly within short film production. Starting in 1984 the company has made 20 shorts on a range of subjects, the most recent being Hawaiian Vacation with the stars of Toy Story (I’ve unfortunately not seen it yet, as it has yet to be released alongside Cars 2 in the UK – perhaps some of our Us readers could enlighten us!?!).
As A Bug’s Life (1998) was released, Pixar decided to accompany this with their short film Geri’s Game, to great success. Since then, each of the studio’s theatrical releases has featured a short film before the main production, harking back to the golden era of Hollywood when A grade feature films would be accompanied by a B feature, a news reel and a cartoon. Generally adopting a very moralistic stance,...
