Chicho Koleda

Going into this movie I didn't expect much, as Bulgarian cinema is notorious for poorly implementing otherwise good ideas. However, this beautiful Christmas story with a taste of 2003s "Love actually" actually managed to surprise me and overdelivered.

The plot is very straightforward at the start, following a couple of seemingly unrelated storylines. However, the movie really picks up after that and the writing really shines, with the multitude of characters and all the complex relationships between them. It really manages to escape all Christmas movie cliches and the plethora of amazing modern Bulgarian actors are all doing a great job portraying their characters.

Many Bulgarian movies feel fake and cringeworthy, but this one really felt special and genuine and made me shed a few tears and feel so happy and satisfied. It really hits top marks not only for Bulgarian audience, but I feel it could be international hit in the right conditions.

I just finished watching it with my family. We were all sobbing from the heartfelt scenes and from the incredible humor as well. I specifically made an Imdb account in order to review it. Its a Must watch!

It had extremely funny scenes, extremely deep ones as well and honestly the plot is so so good. Hoping you will give it a try, its mich better than Home Alone and whatever else people watch on Christmas. This was amazing... proud to have such incredible actors and producers in Bulgaria.

Please translate it in English, it honestly deserves all the awards!! Respect to the producer. Best. Movie. Ever.

Honestly I have not expected much from it. Maybe that's why I liked the movie so so much.

If you want to be critical you may always find something to criticize. Yet for me the move caught quite well a lot of Bulgarian mentality and some typical sense of humor. You may laugh a lot to the way they have ironized many aspects on the live in Bulgaria. So the lot and the way represented to me is quite close to what comedy we have made in the past! An absolute fun!

And very sweet story so you just take all its sorry as easily that never felt how ;)

Story is nice, but there were too many flaws for more than 6 out of 10. Acting was mediocre (with some exceptions). Uncle Claus was barely present in the film. Music was terribly loud compared to actor's voices. Camera work was ok, but unimpressive. Editing was too rough. There were too many minor roles and all the action was scattered across the entire film. As if the Director was trying to create a role for every Bulgarian actor there is. This resulted in many weak side stories which were drawing away viewer's attention from the main one. There are around 20 secondary roles. Writers tried to create background for all of them by spending screen time for all. A regular viewer cannot even remember 20 character names for a 2 hour movie, let alone to try following the constant switching between them.

The film started slow and this resulted in a quite rushed ending, because all the side stories had to be concluded. And somewhere around them they stick the main story, which felt more of a side story. There were many unnecessary scenes which brought zero value. Instead of a movie, It would look much better if it was a theater play or a TV series.

The director tried to include too much of everything, but it only takes 2-3 "things" for a movie to be good.

I've no place to watch this film but I recognize director cut so, with a few strokes if you allow! Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay! An ancient people no doubt with capabilities old friends noble higher future heritage! Progress in the galaxy watched countless lives lost there will be more bloodshed to accept that images for a chance to give my life for our home to make a world there are few of us left to tomorrow because their words had forked no lightning! Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, and learn, too late, they grieved it on its way! Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight blind eyes could blaze like meteors there on the sad height, curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray..!?
