Emilia Jones & Leo Woodall Join A24’s ‘Tony’

Exclusive: Emilia Jones (Coda) and Leo Woodall (One Day) are set for roles in A24’s Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony, Deadline has learned.

Character details are under wraps. The duo joins an ensemble led by The Holdovers breakout Dominic Sessa, who plays the title role, which also includes Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas.

Written by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe, the film’s logline is under wraps though sources say the film takes place during the summer of 1976, when a young Anthony Bourdain has a life changing summer in Provincetown.

BlackBerry‘s Matt Johnson is directing, with A24 producing alongside Tim and Trevor White for Star Thrower, as well as Johnson and Matthew Miller through their Zapruder Films banner. Chris Stinson, Amy Greene, Lou Howe, Todd Bartels and Emily Rose will executive produce alongside Kimberly Witherspoon, who reps Bourdain’s estate. Production begins this month.

Bill Nighy In Talks To Star In BBC Series ‘Clifftops’ From ‘The English’ Writer Hugo Blick

Exclusive: Bill Nighy is in talks to star in Clifftops, a Hugo Blick series for the BBC set in a nostalgia-soaked 1970s trailer park overlooking the English Channel.

Deadline hears that The English writer has teamed with Drama Republic, the producer behind Netflix’s One Day, to create the six-part series, which sources said has the wit of The Royle Family and the emotional clout of The Grapes of Wrath.

Clifftops centers on a mother and daughter who escape an abusive husband to set up a home away from civilization. On the clifftops, Lela is reunited with her Bradford-born parents in a community of outcasts, set to the soundtrack and TV culture of its day.

The BBC declined to comment on the series. Nighy’s agent at Independent Talent has been contacted for comment. Blick is also repped by Independent Talent.

Anime Series "One Piece" Tops IMDb's Top-Rated TV Shows of 2024 So Far
One Piece (1999)
The long-running anime series "One Piece" has emerged as the highest-rated TV show of 2024 so far, according to IMDb user ratings. The Toei Animation series—which first aired in 1999 and has more than 1,100 episodes under its belt—secured the top spot with an impressive rating of 9.0 out of 10.

The top 10 list features a diverse range of shows, including historical dramas, superhero series, and critically acclaimed comedies, and had an relatively even distribution across major streaming platforms Hulu, Prime Video, Netflix, and Max.

To qualify for the Top-Rated Shows of 2024 list, series had to have season premieres from January 1, 2024 through June 30, 2024 and meet a minimum threshold of votes in that time frame. While the rankings are subject to change as more shows premiere throughout the year, the current list serves as a sampling of what could appear in the top lists at the end of the year.

Breaking Baz: ‘We Are Lady Parts’ Star Faith Omole Pens Debut Play For London Stage; Off-Broadway’s ‘Titanique’ Sets Course For West End

Exclusive: Faith Omole, one of the stars of Nida Manzoor’s Peacock/C4/Working Title punk comedy series We Are Lady Parts, will have her debut play produced on the London stage next month starring BAFTA Award winner Rakie Ayola.

My Father’s Fable will run at West London’s Bush Theatre from June 15-July 27.

Omole, a British-Nigerian born in London, said in an exclusive interview with Deadline that the play’s main character, Peace, has learnt a year after her father’s death that he had another son in Nigeria who’s now coming to visit in London. “She has a boyfriend who is pushing her to meet him and a mother [played by Ayola] that doesn’t want her to meet this strange boy from Nigeria.”

Joely Richardson Boards Netflix’s ‘One Day’ Adaptation (Exclusive)

Joely Richardson is set to appear in the Netflix’s drama adaptation of David Nicholls’ bestseller “One Day.”

She joins Ambika Mod (“The is Going to Hurt”), Leo Woodall (“The White Lotus”) and “Poldark” star Eleanor Tomlinson in the series.

Mod and Woodall play leads Emma and Dexter, whose on/off relationship is followed over the course of a lifetime – told in annual instalments on the same day each year – after they first meet at a university graduation. Tomlinson plays Sylvie, who at one point also has a relationship with Dexter.

Richardson’s role has not been revealed.

Nicole Taylor (“The Nest”) is writing the screenplay alongside Anna Jordan, Vinay Patel and Bijan Sheibani.

The series, which is produced by Drama Republic (“Doctor Foster”) with Universal International Studios and Focus Features, is already in production in the U.K.

Exclusive: Netflix’s tragi-comic romantic drama One Day has its love-cursed leads: The White Lotus’ Leo Woodall and This is Going to Hurt breakout Ambika Mod.

Mod will play Emma Morley and Woodall her on-off lover Dexter Mayhew in the Netflix UK series, which is an adaptation of David Nicholls’ bestselling novel charting a series of intense personal encounters between the pair that begin on their university graduation day on July 15, 1988.

Every episode of One Day will follow Emma and Dexter on that one particular day as they grow and change, move together and apart, and experience joy and heartbreak.

Mod was lauded for her heartbreaking performance opposite Ben Whishaw as trainee doctor Shruti Acharya in BBC One medical drama This is Going to Hurt, which was based on Adam Kay’s experiences as in the NHS. She recently finished filming a key role in season two of Sky comedy I Hate Suzie.
