I'm not sure why there are so many low ratings, I thought this was a breath of fresh air in the superhero genre. Kind of top boy meets misfits, low key British drama with mostly black cast. I feel that the low ratings must be from Americans who expect super over the top storylines.
Supacell is a unique take and I felt it captured the reality of what would happen if south london gang members all of a sudden had superpowers- of course they'd be using them for their own selfish needs, humans generally would. I thought it was an interesting thought experiment and it was a delight to watch. I hope there'll be a second series!

I quite enjoyed the show overall up until the ending, but it was so frustrating how stupid the characters were. They were literal idiots which was so frustrating. Things happened because they were stupid or did stupid things. It was really frustrating to watch. Things happened because the plot needed them to happen even if it didn't make any sense. I would probably rate the series a 8-9 if it werent for the lazy writing.
Why can't people talk like normal people and communicate important things in a few seconds instead of letting interruptions get in the way?? It is fake tension and lazy writing that adds nothing to the story.
The ending wasn't suprising, but it could have been written better.
Also time travel just ruins everything. Never ends well.

Ive watched 3 episodes and i have to say the mix on London life and the sci fi element is so unique and so worth watching . No one should see the glory of gangs but the gritty, realistic life of those in a city where it seems gangs are the way to better yourself in a world where being part of something is better than nothing. I abhor gang violence and am 59 yrs old woman . But i cant understand how hard life can be for teens nowadays . The story and character development does not deserve such a low rating . I look forward to season 2 . We have heros and antiheros in all walks of life. That is life.

This is a great production that is very entertaining, but just like they exist in London, we have them here in the States, and they hate everything that showcases Black people. One hater wrote, "The great reason why kids on crack shouldn't write scripts for TV series kertantal6" The review was eventually deleted.
Encourage your friends and family to watch the series and to write a positive review. If you wish to see season two, let's not leave it in their hands to destroy this worthy series.
"When five regular South Londoners find they have extraordinary abilities, it is up to one guy to pull them all together to save the lady he loves."
It sounds like something that has been done before to include all the gang stuff, but this is an excellent show that is easily binge-worthy. Again, it's not exactly new in concept, but the approach that was taken and the acting make it enjoyable throughout every episode; it doesn't disappoint.
Writer/Director Rapman and the ensemble cast did a great job. Hopefully this will go into a second season; the entire team, along with Nadine Mills, aka Sabrina, who is gorgeous, deserves it. I'm looking forward to more Supacell.

There better be another season of this show!
The actual premise is standard fare, black London drug dealers, gangs weapons and all the usual stereotypical play and young black Londoners
And that's about all that's standard in the brilliant piece of tv.
The characters so well written that none of it feels old and unoriginal. Actually liked the ones I was supposed to root for, for a change as some times they can miss the mark The superhero element isn't cheaply done to spin it and it's fun to watch
I really hope this isn't a show that's overlooked as it is up there with top boy - season 1 You will be hooked from the start and hate when it ends so.

First of all, the plot is something quite different. Sure superpowers have been in multiple movies and tv series, but in these tv series, the whole plot adds something very different and unique. The execution could have been better in some parts, but in general it was a really nice and interesting show to watch! I binge watched it. Furthermore, as a white person, I do appreciate and really like the diversity! We need more series with black people. Also, I don't quite understand the whole picture yet, but I am very eager to see what is next. There needs to be a second season and why not more. You need to watch these tv series!

Well, what can I say? After watching the trailer, I binged the entire first season of Rapman's Supacell in one sitting. I'm excited to do the same for season 2 and see where the story goes. It reminded me of Top Boy and Misfits but with its own unique style. If you enjoyed those series, this is definitely worth a watch. The show has intriguing characters and a compelling storyline.
If you're a film junkie like myself then you'll appreciate the time and effort that Rapman and everyone else put in to make this happen.
I enjoyed it. Not my place to say where it could have been improved. It is what it is.
Thank you.

It sounds like the movie was visually appealing but flawed in its storytelling and character development. While the cinematography stood out, capturing scenes with quality and style, the acting and story fell short. The actors, despite doing their best, delivered performances that seemed average, and the storyline didn't do much to support them.
The characters themselves were written to be frustratingly unrealistic-often displaying confusion and fear in ways that led to poor decision-making. This detracted from their credibility, especially when they repeatedly endangered loved ones with reckless choices. The movie's portrayal of the drug trade was also concerning, as it seemed to glamorize or normalize the involvement of characters who were supposed to be the "good guys," making morally questionable decisions to accept or engage in such business.
Overall, while the visuals were commendable, the film's weak characters, misguided heroism, and a storyline that leaned too heavily into problematic themes made it a challenging watch.

One of the best shows I have watched in a long time. The storyline of the show is what amazes me the most. Hearing everyone's story and all the seriousness makes it even better. I really enjoyed watching it and would recommend it to anyone.
The show reminds me mostly of "Nowhere Boys," a show that I watched when I was little, and a little bit of "The Misfits" and "Black Lighting." I also love how the show has a good soundtrack that reminds me of Black empowerment in the United Kingdom.
Good show as it is, the episodes went by so quickly as I binge-watched all of them. Hopefully, season 2 will come soon.

This feels like a comic literally put on screen without adapting. So many plot holes and scenes that just wouldn't happen (even without the powers) but overall still fun.
Nice to see some good representation and the acting is good. The biggest let down is the awful black stereotypes put on display. This was a great chance to dispel some of those old myths but this just reinforces the young gangster vibes, the deadbeat dad, the difficult woman who is also just a push over for her man etc. Could have used the chance so much better.
Saving grace is that the story is fun and makes for easy going watching.
Not original, a lot lifted from other shows like Misfits but still good fun.

The characters are not especially likeable and all very one note throughout the whole show. Michael is a decent bloke but he is as wet as a lettuce. Rodney is great and for me the standout.
The story is slow and then it isn't and then it's slow. Michael spent most of the season apologising or saying please to get people to listen to him.
It's a frustrating watch at times. I dont care for the glorification of knife and gun violence with many scenes brandishing Zombie knives which are actually killing very high numbers of black boys in London. The show seems to just want to represent black people as criminals/gangsters and there is so much more to black London culture than that. Very SUPAficial.
I think there's something in the main story that is interesting but I think other writers should be involved to help with this.
It's a 5 from me with a lot of potential but overall frustrating to watch and only finished it because I had committed to it.

Supacell deserves a 6.8 at minimum!!! I just finished it, and really really enjoyed it. I'm a sci-fi connoisseur, especially British sci-fi. I'm glad I took a chance on it, even though it had a 5.8 when I started it. Based on the description I was initially worried that this would just be a knockoff of the cult classic Misfits, but I was pleasantly surprised!!! I would consider it a mix of Misfits and The Lazarus Project, but with its own intense atmosphere.
One of the main characters is part of a violent gang, and that's an intense part of the plot. I'm a privileged white American who's never been impacted by gang violence so I can't speak to how accurate of a portrayal this was. But it FELT very real to me. I feel like I got a small window into what that life might be like. Tosin Cole was excellent, and you really feel emotionally invested in his quest. The actress who played Sabrina was great as well. The VFX and SFX for the superpowers were awesome, and most of the acting was pretty good. It has plot holes, as others have said, and parts are predictable. But it was engaging and enjoyable, which is what we all want at the end of the day.

There have been a million series about superheroes and the powers of the main cast. Nothing new here. But, the overall story is unique. London is a nice spot. Showing us the different black immigrant classes is a very refreshing take - virtually everything I can think of set in London pretend they don't exist. The gangster undertones/stories are also interesting, if only to see how it differs from the US. I think the characterizations are pretty good, and the acting is excellent. All that said, this isn't a masterpiece of TV. But it is way more entertaining than the Marvel drivel of recent years.
It's great show! The plot is belivable, the acting is very nice. Characters are building gradually which is also great! The super power, super hero, tv shows of this ganre to be at least watchable is good but this one is damn, kicking! I do believe they will continue with another season. I have watched it from first to the last episode in 24h hours and i could still continue. The action and effects are done pretty nice since it is tv show it is really belivable. Of course there are small things that could be done better but you don't even notice it since the a ting and story is really nicely done! Good job and we hope to see season 2, very soon!!!
I'm sure I'm not the first to make this comparison, but this show "borrows" so much from the 2006 NBC show "Heroes" its hard not to. Like, the time-related premise of the first season is literally ripped straight from season one of Heroes. The whole interconnected stories of different people whose paths eventually cross, some hand-wave explanation of how they acquired said powers, it has all been done before. I don't think this is neccesarily a bad show, but as it stands currently it just really doesn't do anything original enough to make it stand out from all the other shows about superpowers. If you haven't seen "Heroes" then you might enjoy this show, but as superhero shows go its just alright.

This show is really impressive. It's British and set in the mileu of black Londoners of varying classes and backgrounds. The characters are varied and interesting and the performances are outstanding.
The story moves along at a steady pace without awkwardly slamming on the brakes to tell people's backstory, like so many other shows. Having the individuals discover their powers as the story unfolds keeps it interesting.
The language is almost entirely black London patois, so I'm glad I've got subtitles switched on, but I don't find this at all distracting - in fact it adds to the seeming authenticity of it.
The cinematography is concise, effective, and unobtrusive, and it avoids the shaky-cam faux-journalistic style that makes so many shows unintelligible.
The way that the main characters work together is very deftly handled and the clash of cultures and motivations is always plausible and never jarring.
The fact that it's English, and not a bunch of Californians mugging for the camera is really a fresh take. I can't stop bingeing it.

Supacell, Netflix's attempt at a gritty superhero drama, feels like a tired rehash of far better stories, stitching together scraps from darker superhero series and films without forging anything new. Set in South London, it follows five Black Londoners who abruptly gain powers tied to sickle cell disease-a premise that could've been unique but drowns in derivative execution. The show's creator, Rapman, leans heavily on tropes from Heroes, Misfits, and The Boys, mimicking their "ordinary people with powers" setup while lacking their spark or depth. Michael's time-travel, Tazer's invisibility, and Sabrina's telekinesis feel like carbon copies of abilities seen in X-Men or Unbreakable, with no fresh spin to justify the familiarity.
The pacing drags painfully, with the first four episodes slogging through predictable character arcs-gang violence, personal grudges, and a shadowy organization hunting powered individuals-that echo Watchmen or Jessica Jones but lack their narrative heft. The dialogue often feels cliched, and the performances, while earnest, can't elevate the uninspired script. Social commentary on racism and community struggles is present but shallow, overshadowed by a plot that prioritizes recycled action over meaningful exploration. Visually, the show's vibrant aesthetic is a highlight, but it's not enough to mask the sense of déjà vu. Supacell wants to be a bold, grounded take on superheroes, but it's too busy copying the homework of its predecessors to stand out. In a genre already bursting with dark, edgy tales, this series feels redundant and forgettable.

When I started watching Supacell, the first few episodes didn't impress me; they felt slow and uneventful. But something shifted in episode 4, and the show suddenly took a wild turn! I was hooked, binge-watching the rest of the series in one sitting.
The final episode left me speechless - it was absolute madness! I'm eagerly awaiting season 2.
Don't let negative reviews deter you; trust me, the show is worth sticking with. The payoff is immense, and you'll be glad you persisted. Supacell is a hidden gem, and I'm excited to see where the story goes from here! The characters are complex, the plot twists are unexpected, and the pacing is well-balanced. Give it a chance, and you won't regret it!

"Supacell" is undeniably a sci-fi series and embraces the genre's inherent unreality. However, the writer could have made the dramatization a bit more believable. The characters often don't communicate like real people. Their dialogues seem deliberately crafted to create tension and suspense, lacking organic flow. For instance, in one scene, the main protagonist tries to convey something crucially important but gets interrupted twice and never manages to say it. A normal person would find a way to convey important information much sooner. The show could benefit from stronger writing.
That said, the acting and cinematography are impressive. I also love the show's premise. Sci-fi events unfolding in South London provide a unique and original plot. On a side note, the character Sharleen is incredibly annoying. Instead of rooting for her, I found myself hoping she would die.

A superhero series that effectively balances its characters and storylines, delving deep into the world of Black people and exploring the core of various issues in London connected to drug gangs. The script emphasizes drama, portraying the lives of Black individuals who gain powers but find that it doesn't necessarily improve their lives as expected. The story presents a realistic depiction of Black lives rather than focusing on flashy displays of power battles. However, it gives each character a deep and unique dimension to their story. When the time comes, it delivers intense and powerful scenes. There is a considerable amount of violence, and the plot takes unexpected twists and turns.
So I've only watched the first episode so far and to be honest it was loooooong - it felt slow and pretty cliched. The character tropes were very obvious from the outset and didn't need as much narrative fleshing out in the first ep - the kid gangstas were not particuarly believable (i.e. More like what a middle class 1st gen older who happened to be brought up in an impoverished area thinks postcode gangs are like - soz), the female characters were embarrassingly light on personality and purpose, there was a lotta very unsubtle, unnecessary and unpleasant product placement rammed into the first five minutes and all in all it kinda felt like someone should have edited the eff out of it... but then in the last act stuff started to get interesting. The direction was OK (the sex scene was baaadddd), sarf Laandaaan looked good, the FX were meh, but the actors were attractive and capable and keen.
I'll keep watching and trust it'll settle into a groove, especially as there are more talented and experienced directors onboard for future eps and kinda advise Rapman to maybe use the opportunities and talent around ya, and find others to bounce ideas off - you've some great ideas, but whilst your TV writing and directing develops, learn from others and use their skills when needed.
Ignore the racially triggered losers reviewing and see what you think-I'm hopeful Suapcell, as a series, will provide an interesting and memorable addition to the superhero/scifi/social commentary genre.
