The Glassworker is screening at Cinemasia
‘The Glassworker’ follows Vincent Oliver and his love story with Aliz. The story unfolds through flashbacks as present-day Vincent reads a letter from Aliz. These flashbacks reveal how they first met during a war and how their relationship evolved through it.
Vincent, the son of Tomas, a skilled glassworker in Waterfront Town, was homeschooled by his father while apprenticing under him. His mother, also a talented glassworker, passed down her gift to him. Vincent longed to attend school and play with the other boys of town, but his father dismissed these desires as distractions from his future as a glassworker.

Gulzar Saab gave us three classics in 1975. Khushboo, Mausam, and Aandhi. Among them, Aandhi was the one that whipped up a serious storm. Subhash K Jha looks back at the film that was released 50 years ago and also shares some unknown facts!
Set in the same year of Sholay and the just released dreaded Emergency came this political fable that was far-reaching in its resonances. Aandhi is the story of Aarti Devi (Suchitra Sen), who arrives in her constituency to fight the elections with Chandra Sen(Om Shivpuri). All hell breaks loose when Aarti Devi is espied with the owner of the hotel where her entourage stays. In a series of typically Gulzarian flashbacks, Aarti Devi re-lives her past with Jk (Sanjeev Kumar).
The film seems to borrow sheaves from Mrs Indira Gandhi’s life story down to an overbearing politician-father (Rehman) whose ambitions on his daughter’s behalf destroy her marriage.

Director Nitin Kakkar’s Jawani Jaaneman which clocks five years today featured Saif Ali Khan trying to cope with the shock of discovering a daughter he never knew he had. The film offered the unique experience of watching Saif recreate his own 1990s hit, ‘Ole Ole’.
Saif Ali Khan sang and danced to success with the chartbuster ‘Jab bhi koi ladki dekhun mera dil diwana bole Ole Ole’ in the Akshay Kumar-Kajol-Saif starrer Yeh Dillagi in 1994. The film, directed by Naresh Malhotra, had a number of chartbusters composed by the uncle-nephew duo Dilip and Sameer Sen, like the Lata Mangeshkar –helmed Hothon pe bas tera naam hai and Dekho Zara dekho.
But it was the Abhijeet rendered ‘Ole Ole’ filmed and choreographed on Saif which broke records and became Saif’s anthem song.

The 1970s were a pivotal period in both American and global pop culture. It was the decade that witnessed the birth of the “American New Wave,” with helmers including Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola establishing a new filmmaking vernacular and making their indelible marks on cinematic history.
In India, Bollywood was producing such wildly popular films as “Sholay.” It was the year “Jaws” put great white sharks on the big screen while also unleashing the era of the summer blockbuster. The iconic, surrealistic comedy “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” graced theaters, directed by first-time feature helmers Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones. The “soft sounds” of 1975 were evident in the string of mellow and groovy Yacht Rock chart-toppers, from the Captain & Tennille’s “Love Will Keep Us Together,” which earned the Grammy for record of the year, to Neil Sedaka’s “Laughter in the Rain.” Other easy listening tunes...

Half of the appeal for Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab is how the music would capture the trippy sounds of most drug movies. He won us over with the snippets of the hypnotic “Chitta Ve” and brash “Udd da Punjab” in the trailer. He’s in safe hands with Amit Trivedi, who brought a diverse mix of Punjabi and electro sounds in Dev D. Udta Punjab is a pretty fabulous and edgy album with music that matches the highs of its film.
From the fizzy opening hook to Babu Haabi’s gritty “Dekho dekho,” Chitta Ve is an addictive song. Starting the album with a pulsating track is the right move, because Trivedi arranges the catchy drop of the film title so seamlessly amidst the electro beats. Babu Haabi’s rap delivery is raw and fast, but it works against Shahid Mallya’s earthy tones. The lyrics by Shellee steep...

Sonali Cable is writer-director Charudatt Acharya’s maiden voyage, being one of the 8 scripts selected for Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab 2012. It stars Rhea Chakraborty (Meri Dad Ki Maruti), Ali Fazal (Bobby Jasoos) and Anupum Kher (A Wednesday) in pivotal roles. It also marks the debut of Dance India Dance finalist Raghav Juyal.
The soundtrack features compositions from various music directors including Raghav Sachar (‘Kabul Fiza’) and Mike McCleary (Nautanki Sala).
Sonali Cable is produced under the banner of Ramesh and Rohan Sippy and hits cinemas 10 October 2014.
Ek Mulaqat Ho kicks of the album, a well composed track by Amjad-Nadeem of the Ankit Tiwari and/or Jeet Ganguly disposition. With the kind of below average weekend that Phata Poster Nikhla Hero had gone through, it was always going to be an uphill task for the film to see a turnaround. Thankfully though, the fall wasn’t too steep and though there was a gradual slide in collections, the Rajkumar Santoshi directed film still managed to collect around 32 crore at the box office. Considering the fact that the film had arrived with a lot riding on it for all involved, these numbers are just about decent. Moreover, these collections are just a little better than Mausam [29 crore] which had released two years back.
The film has still got a decent screen count in the second week. However to gain maximum benefit out of it, the word of mouth of this Shahid Kapoor starrer had to be truly fantastic, which is not really the case. Moreover, Besharam releases on Wednesday itself which...

Until recently Shahid Kapoor was regarded as one of the best-packaged star-actors among the contemporary entertainers of Bollywood. With his last two 'epic' films Mausam and Teri Meri Kahaani proving to be epic losses at the box office, a lot was seen to be hinging on the potential success of his new film Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (Ppnh).
But look at the irony! Wags within the entertainment industry are cruelly labelling it Phata Poster Nikhla Zero. Says a director, who not so long ago offered Shahid a solid role in a film that went on to be a runaway success, "Shahid asked me for a hard-bound script. I told him I don't work that way. He said he works in no other way. I want to know what kind of a hard-bound script Santoshi offered him for Phata Poster... I can't see any evidence of a script in the film.

After celebrating a decade in the film industry this year, Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for round two at the box office with upcoming releases Phata Poster Nikhla Hero this month and Rambo Rajkumar, which comes out in November. With not much luck at the box office in the past two years and films like Mausam and Teri Meri Kahaani failing to strike the box office, his contemporaries such as Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan took the lead, whilst Shahid was left behind.

Mumbai, Sep 14: Producer Ramesh Taurani is confident that his film "Phata Poster Nikla Hero" starring his protege Shahid Kapoor, whom he launched with "Ishq Vishq" in 2003, will be the biggest film of the actor's life.
Shahid's last two releases "Mausam" and "Teri Meri Kahaani" turned out to be box-office duds.
"I launched Shahid with 'Ishq Vishq' and I have full faith in him and his talent. If an actor is accepted by the audience and after that if his three-four films doesn't work at the box-office, then it doesn't make a much difference," Taurani said here in an interview Friday.

It is no secret that Sonam Kapoor has become somewhat of a fashion icon, her signature style on red carpets and film promotions has been recognised and applauded by many. She turned heads at Cannes but says she does not need to depict who she is in real life in her films.
“It is not mandatory that whatever I am in real life, I would depict that in my roles on screen as well. In fact, I will never play anything of me and my real life in my films. These are two very different things and I would like to look at them like that.”
Sonam who is often seen supporting a natural look in her films, Sawaariya, Delhi-6, Mausam and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in comparison to her looks in real life; likes to use the word “natural” instead of “de-glam” which is often used to describe her looks in her films.

Actress Sonam Kapoor has expressed that she would love to play the tragedy queen Meena Kumari. Sonam says how Meena plays as a real person and has real flaws which are enticing as Sonam has flaws herself.
Sonam is already known for playing different roles in films such as Delhi 6, Mausam, I Hate Love Stories and so on. “I want to play anyone who has a nice character arch and is flawed; I would love to play such roles. It is because they are human. I am very flawed myself…I want to play a real person,” said Sonam.
Meena Kumari was the biggest hit of her time and it was known to everyone of tragedy on screen and off, having dealt with alcohol addiction and a rough marriage leading to her death at 39 years. Her hit film Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam where she played an alcoholic wife was too similar to her own life.

Easily one of the most awaited films of the year, Raanjhanaa captured our interests from the unconventional pairing of Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, and Abhay Deol and the earthy tones from A.R.Rahman’s songs. Anand L Rai’s fourth feature after the sleeper hit, Tanu Weds Manu, looks to be an interesting and swooning love story especially through its gorgeous music. A.R.Rahman was so moved by the script of the film that he immediately agreed to sign up and do the background score for this love story, which can only mean good things for its prospects as an awaited summer movie. Raanjhanaa has been quite the lucky project for Rahman after the mixed reviews for his previous Hindi soundtracks for Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ekk Deewana Tha.
