This is the original TV pilot version of Mulholland Drive (2001), which was rejected by ABC and failed to become a series. The existing pilot was reworked with new footage to create the feature film two years later.
In his book, Catching the Big Fish, David Lynch recounts that he was told the ABC executive who rejected Mulholland Dr. from going to series watched it at six in the morning, from across the room, while having his breakfast and doing other work. The executive found it so boring after the first few minutes that he even turned the volume down.
David Lynch considers this version of the project to be embarrassing and has not released it to the public, but a VHS screener copy from the time of its production did find its way online.
