‘It’s Perfect’: James Gunn Has a Surprising Pick for the Best Quentin Tarantino Film
Image
Quentin Tarantino has directed many feature films which have been widely acclaimed, and fans will often have their own particular favorites. Superman helmer James Gunn is a Tarantino fan, and he has shared his own pick for his favorite film.

Per Konbini, Gunn addressed Tarantino films in a new video interview. He brought up 1997's Jackie Brown, written and directed by Tarantino, sharing that it's his personal favorite. While Gunn noted that he also really enjoys Pulp Fiction, he gives Jackie Brown the edge, as he feels that it's a "perfect" film. He also revealed how he loves the movie so much that he still watches it regularly.

"Jackie Brown is the best Quentin Tarantino film," Gunn said. "At least, it's my favorite film. I don't know if there are 'bests' of anything, but it's my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. I watch it at least once a year, and really...

Must Watch: '100 Years of History in 100 Films' Journey Into Cinema
Image
"This peace that we're supposed to be protecting. It's blood-stained... that's the true nature of our peace." An entrancing new cinema mashup video has debuted on YouTube - called "100 Years of History in 100 Films." The video is made by a Yt creator known as "Kaptain Kristian", who creates "visual love letters" to cinema. The concept for this journey through cinema history is not about when the film was made, rather what year of history is depicted in the film. The video features clips from 100 different movies, ranging from The Wolf of Wall Street to Bridge of Spies to The Last Emperor to The Pianist to Malcolm X to Apollo 13 to Jackie to Good Bye Lenin! to Jarhead, and so many others. Now I want to rewatch all of these. It doesn't cover every major event in human history, and mainly focuses on American history, but it does go through 100 years of time.

Though the film has remained under wraps, Sarsgaard has disclosed some details, saying The Bride! will surely be controversial with viewers.

According to a report by Deadline, Sarsgaard was recently honored at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. The Memory and Jackie actor talked about projects like the vastly overlooked September 5 as well as the upcoming adaptation of the cyberpunk heist classic Neuromancer. He also talked about The Bride!, the project that'll reunite him with Gyllenhaal after she directed him in The Lost Daughter:...

Oscar-Winning ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ Producer Daniel Dreifuss Boards Series Adaptation of Late Author Edmund White’s Novel, ‘A Boy’s Own Story’ (Exclusive)
Image
Scottish-born Brazilian producer Daniel Dreifuss, whose credits include the Oscar and BAFTA-winning “All Quiet on the Western Front,” as well as the Oscar-nominated “No” by Chile’s Pablo Larrain, has boarded the limited series adaptation of “A Boy’s Own Story,” the seminal 1982 novel by the late gay author Edmund White.

Dreifuss joins director John Krokidas (“Kill Your Darlings,” “Times Like These”) and executive producers Brian Alessandro and Michael Carroll, on the first-ever screen adaptation of White’s pioneering autobiographical novel, the first in a trilogy.

Alessandro and Carroll, White’s widower, had adapted the autobiography into a graphic novel for Top Shelf Productions in 2023, and have been co-developing the series pilot with Dreifuss.

According to Dreifuss, they will also take some creative liberties, drawing from the graphic novel particularly in areas where they move beyond the strictly youth-focused narrative of the book.

Image
Netflix has Big(elow) ambitions for this year’s Oscar race.

On Wednesday morning, the streaming giant shared fresh details about the awards hopeful formerly known as “Untitled Kathryn Bigelow Project,” hailing from the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. Bigelow’s latest film is officially called A House of Dynamite and features an A-list cast that includes Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee, and Tracy Letts.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for Season 1 of “Dune: Prophecy.”]

It wasn’t enough for Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. to mount three big-budget spectacles directed by Denis Villeneuve based on Frank Herbert’s classic “Dune” series. The studios also teamed up with HBO to produce the TV series “Dune: Prophecy.”

Executive produced by Diane Ademu-John and showrunner Alison Schapker, the show also takes place on a massive scale. The veteran who carries the six-episode series (which starts production on a second season this summer) is Emily Watson, a British character actress who broke out back in 1997 with a Best Actress Oscar nomination for Lars von Trier’s “Breaking the Waves.”

With 28 years of rich work behind her since then, Watson emerges in a powerful role as Valya Harkonnen, the ruthless, driving Mother Superior of the Sisterhood, an early precursor to the mighty Bene Gesserit. She and her black-veiled minions run the universe, wielding their dark arts behind the scenes.

Jackie Chan is an action superstar, and we love him for his death-defying stunts, coupled with impeccable comic timing. No one has mastered cross-cultural movies like him, but recently, he reflected on one of his most successful franchises and called it a bit of a misfire.

Now, Chan is not your typical Hollywood hero because his career has lasted more than five decades, with over 200 movies where he’s carved out a unique niche for himself. But it seems like even living legends like him aren’t immune to the downside of showbiz.

My Sad Dead horror series from Pablo Larraín gets picked up by Netflix
Image
Look forward to a new horror miniseries from Pablo Larraín. Netflix has announced the production of My Sad Dead (Mis muertos tristes), a miniseries based on the work of author Marina Enríquez. The Chilean filmmaker last worked with Netflix on the black horror, El Conde.

The four-part horror series starts filming in June and is said to be about not the world of the supernatural and the horror found within society. Although the work is based on My Sad Dead, the streamer announced plots and characters will also draw inspiration from Julie, A Sunny Place for Shady People and Back When We Talked to the Dead.

The story is being adapted for the screen by Enríquez herself, along with Chilean writer Guillermo Calderón, Anastasia Ayazi and Larraín himself. The director has described Mariana’s writing as “particularly visual,” “brilliant, and “dangerous.” He called her style of “casual, domestic horror” as...

Pablo Larraín to Direct ‘My Sad Dead’ Miniseries at Netflix
Image
Netflix is moving forward with “My Sad Dead,” also titled “Mis Muertos Tristes,” a new miniseries from Pablo Larraín. The Chilean filmmaker behind such movies as “Spencer” and “Jackie” will be behind the project, which will be composed of four hour-long horror drama episodes.

The series is based on Argentine author Mariana Enríquez’s tale “My Sad Dead.” It will also borrow from passages from her other works, including “Julie,” “A Sunny Place for Shady People” and “Back When We Talked to the Dead.” “As Mariana Enríquez suggests, the true terror is not the supernatural itself, but the horrors that society hides,” a logline for the upcoming series reads.

The horror miniseries follows Ema, a 60-year-old doctor who can see and hear the dead, which she calls “presences.” But that’s a gift she has avoided her entire life. That changes once her niece Julie — who can also communicate with...

Les Studios de Paris, Where ‘Jackie’ and ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ Filmed, Positions Itself as One Stop Shop for International Productions
Image
Several decades ago, Luc Besson had a dream: to build a world-standard studio complex in Paris which could rival the U.K.’s Pinewood. He wanted to attract iconic international shoots and stop big Hollywood movies from filming all locations in France and then moving to London or back to the U.S. to shoot interiors.

Besson opened La Cité du Cinéma in 2012, housing the 102,000 square foot Les Studios de Paris, the largest sound stage complex in the Paris area, boasting a stunning Cathedral style nave entrance.

On Friday, as part of Variety’s Global Conversations Summit at Cannes, Brigitte Segal, head of Les Studios de Paris, and John Bernard, doyen of France’s line-producers, doubled down on how far Les Studios de Paris and France at large are near to Besson’s dream, buoyed by indirect knock-on consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Is Naomi Watts’ Upcoming FX Series ‘American Love Story’ Based on a True Story?
Image
Ryan Murphy has given us chills so far with American Horror Story, courtroom drama with American Crime Story, and even sports scandals with American Sports Story. However, the creator is about to show us romance with a feel of everything that has been said before. The upcoming FX series American Love Story, starring Naomi Watts, will show the tragic story of one of America’s most popular couples in the ’90s.

The story of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was almost like a fairytale, but because of heavy media scrutiny, it was not without rumors and controversy. It has everything a filmmaker would love to work on, but it also raises the question of how closely the series will stick to real life. Let’s explore.

The duo will be back in action, but this time, they're mixing the thrill of Jan de Bont's 1994 pulse-pounding classic Speedwith a touch of romance, reigniting the chemistry they exuded on-screen throughout their (extremely) long-distance relationship in Alejandro Agresti's 2006 love story The Lake House, to star in an as-yet-untitled "propulsive" romantic thriller currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The wheels are in motion on the romantic thriller, but plot details are still under wraps for now. However, the script is in safe hands with Noah Oppenheim, who wrote the 2016 historical drama Jackie and recently co-created Netflix's political thriller Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro as former U.S. president George Mullen. Oppenheim is also producing the next Reeves and Bullock team-up with Sarah Bremner via Prologue Entertainment,...

The duo, who also famously co-starred in sci-fi romance drama “The Lake House,” will be back onscreen together with an untitled thriller for Amazon MGM Studios. 'I Just Refuse to Believe That It's Done': The Conners Stars Lament Roseanne Spinoff Ending After 7 Seasons
Image
The final season of The Conners has begun airing on ABC. While fans have known since last May that Season 7 would be the show's last, series leads Laurie Metcalf and Lecy Goranson still cannot believe that the Roseanne spinoff is finally coming to a close.

"There's a lot to wrap up and I think the writers are really working hard to get everybody's storylines sort of ... not completed. It's not going to have a big bow tied up with the Conners," Metcalf, who plays Jackie Harris, told People about the show's final six episodes. "And it will remain true to their storyline, what happens to them in the final episode. But, it's a very short amount of time to wrap up this many seasons of a family that's covered decades."

Goranson, who stars as Jackie's niece Becky Connor, expressed hope that the cast of crew of The Conners would get...

'The Conners' Final Season Gets an Unexpected "Miniseries" Format
Image
The beginning of the (second) end has finally begun, with the seventh and final season of the Roseanne spin-off series, The Conners, celebrating its arrival on Wednesday night. Everyone’s favorite middle-class American family is back, but this season won’t be like the rest. While it will, of course, include appearances from the characters that we’ve come to know and love over nearly four decades of television, the set-up of episodes and storytelling will look a little different from it has in years past. Those who tuned in for the debut episode, titled “It’s Gonna Be A Great Day,” already have an idea of the overarching plot, as John Goodman’s Dan and Laurie Metcalf’s Jackie have started to bicker over the possibility of suing the pharmaceutical company responsible for the death of Roseanne (Roseanne Barr).

Speaking with TV Insider, executive producer Bruce Helford said that over the remaining five episodes,...
