Forgotten Vin Diesel Chiller Is Now the #1 Horror Movie on Netflix
Image
A much-maligned Vin Diesel picture is presently finding new life on the Netflix charts. It has an abysmal reputation with both critics and fans but the fact that the flick is charting seems to suggest that there’s a certain merit to it. I’ll level with you, I have a soft spot for this one. The Last Witch Hunter is not necessarily a great movie but it’s an escapist action-horror spectacle that’s never boring.

The Last Witch Hunter landed on the Netflix platform on June 16 and has been making waves since. Today the flick sits in 8th place overall and comes in as the most-watched horror movie on the streamer. This suggests that I may not be the only one with a soft spot for this oft-maligned effort. Sure, it’s not fine art but you could certainly do worse if you tried.

10 Years Later, Vin Diesel's Underrated Fantasy Film Finds New Success on Streaming
Image
Vin Diesel is generally synonymous with the Fast & Furious franchise, where he plays Dominic "Dom" Toretto. Outside of the high-octane film series, the actor can be seen in other action-packed movies.

One of them was the highly underrated fantasy film The Last Witch Hunter. The film premiered in 2015 and was critically panned, but Lionsgate still decided to bet on a sequel that has yet to materialize. 10 years after its premiere, The Last Witch Hunter is making a splash on streaming, Tudum reveals.

The Last Witch Hunter premiered on Netflix on June 16, and it didn't take long to attract the subscribers' attention. For the week between June 16 and 22, the film debuted in fourth place on the domestic charts. It fell just behind Gerard Butler's Plane, which rose to the top of the charts in the U.S. with 6.6 million globally, the documentary Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy, and Tyler Perry's thriller Straw,...

Vin Diesel's Critically-Panned 2015 Movie Has Become A Streaming Hit On Netflix
Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel’s 2015 fantasy-action movie The Last Witch Hunter has surged into Netflix’s feature-length top five in the US. The critically panned film starring Diesel in the titular role has become a major streaming hit a decade after taking a respectable $147 million at the box office. The movie’s Netflix success comes despite it being one of the worst-reviewed releases of Vin Diesel’s career.

The platform first dropped The Last Witch Hunter, which features Diesel's most powerful character, on June 16, 2025, for its streaming debut, nine and a half years after it was first released in cinemas. Diesel’s movie going straight into Netflix’s American top 10 movies chart is good news for its prospective sequel, The Last Witch Hunter 2, which is still in development hell several years after the actor first confirmed this follow-up project.

Straw’s Taraji P. Henson, 54, Says Tyler Perry’s Scripts “Challenge” Her
Image
Straw has been holding strong atop Netflix charts for the second week in a row now despite a major controversy, and the film’s biggest star has pulled back the curtain on what it’s like working with director Tyler Perry. Starring in the lead role of Janiyah Wiltkinson in Straw is Taraji P. Henson, who plays a single mother navigating a series of unfortunate events that lead her into a dangerous situation and at the center of suspicion in a terrifying world. Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Rockmonud Dunbar, and Glynn Turman also star in the film. Henson recently sat down for an interview with Decider, and she spoke about the nearly twenty years she’s been working with writer/director Tyler Perry, even praising the scripts he’s sent her over the years:

“I feel like every script that he sends me, he ups it. He challenges me,...

Vin Diesel’s Fantasy Epic That Helped Him Cope With the Loss of Paul Walker Hits Streaming Charts
Image
Vin Diesel will always be known for his work as Dom Toretto in the Fast & Furious movies, but 10 years ago, he starred in a fantasy epic that’s found new life on streaming. Diesel features alongside Elijah Wood and Michael Caine in The Last Witch Hunter, the 2015 film following a witch hunter who stands between humanity and the deadliest witches in history. The Last Witch Hunter began streaming on Netflix not long ago, and the film wasted no time climbing to the top of streaming charts, sitting at #2 at the time of writing, behind only Gerard Butler’s Plane. The Last Witch Hunter earned poor scores of 18% from critics and 42% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $146 million at the box office against a $90 million budget.

Vin Diesel’s Fast & Furious co-star, Paul Walker, passed away on November 20, 2013, less than a year before The Last Witch Hunter began filming.

Vin Diesel’s Critically Panned Fantasy Epic With Elijah Wood Lands on Streaming as Fans Await a Sequel
Image
When you think of Vin Diesel, chances are theFast & Furious franchise is the first thing that comes to mind. The billion-dollar juggernaut provided the vehicle with which he rode to superstardom, and while it's often hard to separate Diesel from Dom Toretto, fast cars are not all that the actor is about. Fun Trivia? Diesel is a longtime Dungeons & Dragonsfan, and he even starred in a fantasy action epic based on a character he created for the game. That film, The Last Witch Hunter, flew under the radar for many casual fans, largely due to its unfair critical reception. The few who saw it found it entertaining enough, and now, amidst whispers of a sequel, The Last Witch Hunter is set for greater visibility as it's found a new home on Netflix.

The Last Witch Hunter, released in 2015, was written by Cory Goodman, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharples, who based...

Vin Diesel’s Forgotten Fantasy Flop That Halted Due to Paul Walker Is Now Resurrected on Netflix
Image
Vin Diesel’s 2015 fantasy action movie is experiencing a surprising revival nearly a decade after its rocky debut. The movie, which struggled critically and commercially, has returned from the grave. With its theme of magic, immortality, and ancient curses, the movie features a supernatural, mythological twist. And, Diesel is not unfamiliar with this theme.

Now, nearly a decade later, the movie is resurrected on the global streaming giant Netflix, reigniting the long-promised sequel. However, this forgotten flick has a far more emotional backstory for Diesel, something that halted the entire production. The movie is The Last Witch Hunter, and it is getting an unlikely second life on Netflix.

Netflix adding 14 new movies and shows this week
Image
Listen, just because there isn't some long-awaited fan favorite original Netflix series popping up with a new season, it doesn't mean that there's nothing worth watching this week. I'd say several great shows are coming to your favorite streamer.

We'll get a documentary series about cheerleaders for a team that a lot of people hate. And a documentary about a mayor that a lot of people hated. Thankfully, that balances out with a huge show that many people loved, making its Netflix debut.

I'll be honest; I've never seen a single episode of that show. But I do have about 37 friends who swear it's the best thing ever. We'll get to that soon enough. For now, we've got plenty to talk about. We've got witch hunters - well, one, anyway. We also have demon hunters, just to make sure they didn't feel left out. Add magical standup, weird food, and family drama,...

Netflix & 21 Laps Developing Feature Adaptation Of Grady Hendrix Short Story “The Blanks”
Image
Exclusive: Netflix has preemptively closed a deal to adapt “The Blanks,” the horror-thriller short story by genre maestro Grady Hendrix, for film.

21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce under the company’s longstanding creative partnership with Netflix, alongside Aperture Entertainment’s Adam Goldworm, with Hendrix exec producing. No word yet on who will direct or script the adaptation. This is the second short story Hendrix has taken to market following “Ankle Snatcher,” which he’s been set to adapt for Sony and Escape Artists, with Aperture producing.

Forgotten Action-Horror Gem Starring Vin Deasel is Now Yours to Stream for Free
Image
Action-horror is such an interesting subgenre. The Terminator and Aliens (both Cameron) are classics, adeptly balancing the scope of the action with more intimate, terrifying moments, though they’re more outliers than the norm. Often, especially in the 2010s, action-horror hybrids were costly, star-studded vehicles with fantastical presences and incredulous PG-13 ratings. Remember the two different attempts to launch a Dark Universe with Dracula Untold and The Mummy? Yeah. Well, they didn’t have Vin Deasel.

Remember the Nicolas Cage vehicle Season of the Witch from 2011? What about the adaptation of Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant that hurts me to this day? Honestly, I’m not sure it’s ever been profitable enough to dump a bunch of money into an action-horror epic, but studios keep doing it. At least one has defied the odds. You likely don’t remember Breck Eisner’s The Last Witch Hunter, but audiences on Tubi do.

Vin Diesel's 2015 Fantasy Horror Movie Is Blowing Up On Tubi's Charts
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Did you know Vin Diesel is a big "Dungeons & Dragons" nerd and was once approached for the movie? The man has played the beloved table-top rpg since he was a child and never misses an opportunity to talk up his love for the game, posting "D&d" birthday cakes on Facebook and even writing the introduction to "30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons." If you take a look at his filmography, you can see the glorious nerdiness shining though, with Diesel starring in everything from the "Riddick" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" films to "Babylon A.D." and "Bloodshot."

With all that in mind, you might have expected the actor to appear in the hilarious adventure that was 2023's "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves." But while his fellow "Fast and Furious" family member Michelle Rodriguez did star...

April 1 Will Be a Great Day for Vin Diesel Fans
Image
When one thinks of Vin Diesel, one thinks "fast and furious." Not the films but the pacing and tone of his movies, which are fast-paced and full of fury. The actor has a long history of acting, though since taking on the role of Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise, more of his roles have been action-based.

Despite The Fast and Furious not being the critics' most beloved franchise, Vin Diesel knows how to own an action role—he’s proven capable of presenting a strong physical presence for over two decades. Two of his previous films, which showcase his prowess as a leading action star, will be coming to Tubi at the beginning of next month: The Last Witch Hunter (2015) and xXx (2002).

Vin Diesel Hints at Groot Spinoff Movie, ‘Planet X’ in the Works?
Image
Vin Diesel has suggested that he may return as Groot in a new Marvel project separate from the Guardians of the Galaxy series. The actor shared the update in an Instagram post outlining his schedule for 2025.

“Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet,” Diesel wrote.

His statement has led to speculation about a standalone film focused on Groot’s origins and home world. Planet X, known as the home of the Flora Colossus species, has appeared in Marvel comics but has yet to be explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Diesel has voiced Groot since Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), continuing the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He returned for Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). He also voiced the...

Vin Diesel Hints At Groot Spinoff Movie Based On Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Character: “Disney Wants Their Planet X”

Vin Diesel gave a recap on what he’s working on in 2025 and hinted that he might reprise his role as Groot from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Fast & Furious actor gave a rundown of his work and mentioned a standalone project starring the extraterrestrial sentient tree-like creature.

“Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet,” Diesel posted on Instagram.

Diesel voiced Groot for 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and reprised the role in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The actor also made a cameo in Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, which was released in 2018.

It was not until 2022 when Diesel voiced the character again for 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder and 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Vin Diesel Says Marvel's Groot Planet X Solo Movie Is Happening
Image
Vin Diesel has been known to use his Instagram to update fans on his upcoming projects, even when there isn't really anything official on the horizon. In a retrospective post, he has now shared surprising new updates on many possible new projects coming down the line, from a new xXx movie, the next Riddick installment, and a possible solo Groot movie from Marvel Studios.

A day after the Oscars ceremony, Diesel took to Instagram to update his followers on a few of his projects, but the one that stood out the most - because previously it was little more than a passing wish-list suggestion - was Planet X, which would be a new solo Marvel movie featuring Guardians of the Galaxy favorite, Groot. Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Vin Diesel Claims Disney Remains Eager To Make A Groot-Led Planet X Movie
Image
Since first appearing in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot has been a fan-favourite character among MCU fans. After sacrificing himself to save his teammates during that adventure, the sentient tree returned in the sequel as the adorable Baby Groot.

Later, we'd see Groot become a moody teenager, though he grew up a little in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before transforming into the hulking "Alpha Groot" in a memorable mid-credits scene.

Groot has also been part of the Avengers and Thor franchises, and we reunited with Baby Groot in Disney+'s I Am Groot, a wonderful series of shorts that showed what the youngster was getting up to after being regrown by Rocket.

Fast and Furious franchise star Vin Diesel has voiced every iteration of Groot and said in 2022 that Marvel Studios is eager for a Planet X movie. Previewing his upcoming projects, the actor repeated that claim...

Elijah Wood movies: 12 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
To many, he will always be Frodo Baggins, the brave little furry-footed hobbit who volunteers to bear the burden of carrying the dreaded One Ring as he leaves his bucolic existence behind while sacrificing himself to save Middle-earth in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

But Elijah Wood has had quite a varied career beyond the Shire ever since he made his film debut at 8-years-old with a small part as Video Game Boy #2 in 1989’s “Back to the Future Part II.” He would go on to land the coveted central role in the epic fantasy franchise based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s enduring classic when he was 18. But his early output on the big screen consisted of a string of so-so ‘90s titles such as “Radio Flyer,” “Paradise” and “Forever Young.” However, he often earned praise for his part in even mediocre projects.

But when he reached his teens, Wood...

Vin Diesel's Worst Movie Is A Sci-Fi Flop, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Do you know which Vin Diesel movie is rated the highest on Rotten Tomatoes? It's 1999's "The Iron Giant," the timeless animated classic in which Diesel voices the titular 50-ft. tall metal-eating robot, who emerges as a strong emotional anchor in the narrative. In addition to featuring stellar voice work, the film is a beautiful, engaging tale about the everyday issues that plague us, all the way down to its highly emotional climax. But while "The Iron Giant" sits at a thoroughly deserved 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, let's shift our attention to the actor's lowest-rated film on the platform. No, it's not "The Last Witch Hunter" (although that is a strong contender for Diesel's worst movie). Rather, it's a sci-fi action flick that not only flopped at the box office, but whose theatrical cut was also disowned by its director. I'm talking about Mathieu Kassovitz's wildly convoluted, mind-bogglingly outlandish "Babylon A.D,...

Jett, April, Nora (Carlie Allen) and Damon are hanging out on Halloween when Jett gets a bright idea. He downloads an app that claims, if you buy werewolf blood from them and perform the proper ritual, you can become a werewolf. It’s Halloween and there’s a full moon, so why not? Nobody seems surprised when the blood shows up almost immediately after he orders it, as if delivered by some lycanthropic DoorDash.

They’re also not surprised when the ritual seems to have no effect. But later that night, a woman walking home is torn apart by something large and hairy,...

Gods of Egypt Pitch Meeting
Image
Screen Rant's Pitch Meeting for Gods of Egypt hilariously points out plot issues and the excessive budget spent on the film. The movie's low critical reception could be credited as due to the writers' negative track record and the director's decline in critical success. Whitewashing casting choices and competition with other films contributed to Gods of Egypt's box office failure.

Screen Rant's Pitch Meeting series is going fantastically ancient as the latest episode explores Gods of Egypt. The 2016 action movie revolved around a young thief named Bek who partners with the Egyptian God of Air Horus to restore his powers and bring down the maniacal Set after he claims dominion over mankind in a brutal coup. Gerard Butler led the ensemble Gods of Egypt cast alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Élodie Young, Chadwick Boseman and Geoffrey Rush.
