Nuclear Family

Exciting and action packed

Didn't expect much of this, but after Ray Wise was introduced as a mad maniac leader I was completely sold. I've loved watching him since Twin Peaks. He is an actor which really can be both insane and nasty.

We follow a family of four, which sees an atomic bomb go off not very far off. As the rest of the people around, the go ion the run away from the dead zone. Shortly after they lose track of their young son during a traffic jam. From then on they run on their feet looking for the boy, but meet up a very bad and violent gang.

The film starts off with action just a few minutes in, and goes on. This is like an action filled version of "The Road", which was about the same there, that means the world after a nuclear war. It also reminds med of the sci-fi movie "Monster". Both references are to the benefit of "Nuvlear family".

What I don't like is the bleak colors, which is much cheaper done than in the other mention films, and the film music is very formulaic. But what can you expect from a low budget movie like this? I think they have got quite a lot out of it, thanks to good direction and what must be quite a good action driven script.

Wll worth a watch!

Show: 8/10, Presentation: 4/10

To be clear, I'm an Xbox360 fan. Having shows available is great. Having exclusive shows is great. Having to jump around needlessly is annoying, having to watch the same commercial at the start of every 5 minute episode is ridiculous. Change-up the ads! Don't make me back out and jump through the same list every time I want to see the next episode! Aggravating!

The show itself (after getting past the short YouTube-like mini episodes) is quite interesting. The acting is good (but not perfect), and the story-line keeps you entertained. Well known, but not overly used, actors keeps the quality as good as anything on TV. You really get into the tension, and relief, with the scenes.

Bottom line: Well worth putting up with the annoyances of the format. Since the format is flexible, Syfy/Microsoft can clean up the problems without disrupting the quality and pace, and it will only get better (please-please-please!).

Opinion on Nuclear Family

I started watching this just to see what it was. The more I watch this pilot for Nuclear Family I have an overwhelming sense I want to watch more of it. Great story line and keeps you guessing what's going to happen and how they find ways out of unbelievable situations. The situations that appear in the pilot are ones that could really happen to people. It definitely ranks a 10 in my view and would love to see this come out as a full episode and TV series. To the writers and producers, good job. I'll be passing this along to my friends to get involved and to bring more viewers. It's something to see what a family has to go through against all odds to maybe see the next day in the post apocalyptic world.

Better than expected

I don't really do webisodes - watching five minutes at a time just doesn't interest me, unless I can wait till they're all completed and then watch them together. I haven't watched a webisode since Battlestar Galactica.

My wife strong-armed me into watching this, and I'm glad she did. This was really quite impeccable, and quite frankly it puts the NBC show Revolution to shame because it does far more with a fraction of the budget. While Revolution is trying to convince you that an incredibly attractive group running around in Abercrombie & Fitch clothing is living in a post-apocalyptic world, Nuclear Family does a significantly better job of selling the reality.

Sure, it's a bit rough around the edges, but all of that can be attributed to the lack of a budget. The writing is top notch. And the addition of Ray Wise as "The Man" just tickles my fancy. It reminded me of his turn as the Devil in Reaper, another underwatched and underrated gem.

This show is currently On Demand on Syfy. Definitely worth a glance.
