Dwayne Johnson is prepared to drop an elbow on his opponents in a new poster for The Smashing Machine, an upcoming film about Mma icon Mark Kerr from Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems) and A24. Who’s ready to sweat and leave some blood on the mat?
Mark Kerr is a former American wrestler and mixed martial artist. As a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, World Vale Tudo Championship tournament winner, a Pride Fc Heavyweight Champion, 1992 NCAA National Wrestling Champion, 1994 National Freestyle Champion, and 4x Adcc World Submission Champion, Kerr is one of the biggest badasses to ever get into the ring.
In addition to his directorial duties, Benny Safdie is co-writing The Smashing Machine script, which focuses on Kerr’s struggle with addiction, victory, love, and friendship in the year 2000. Likely to veer into more severe territory, The Smashing Machine gives Johnson a rare opportunity to flex his drama muscles for cameras.

Cinema fans have been familiar with Michael Berryman for decades. He made his first screen appearance in the 1975 film Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze, following that up with a role in the Best Picture winner One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Next up was his most iconic role, that of the desert-dwelling cannibal Pluto in Wes Craven’s 1977 film The Hills Have Eyes, a role he reprised in the messy 1984 sequel The Hills Have Eyes Part II. He has gone on to rack up over one hundred more credits, including roles in films like Deadly Blessing, Invitation to Hell, Cut and Run, Weird Science, My Science Project, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, The Guyver, Beastmaster 2, Wizards of the Demon Sword, Teenage Exorcist, The Devil’s Rejects, Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield, The Haunted Casino, The Lords of Salem, and Death House.

After years in development as a feature, "Doc Savage", the pulp magazine superstar from the 1930's, is being reconfigured for a live-action TV series, from Sony Pictures Television, Neal H. Moritz' Original Film ("The Boys") and Condé Nast Entertainment, who acquired the "Doc Savage" Street & Smith Library in 1959:
"...the scripted series will chronicle the adventures of 'Clark Savage Jr.', featuring rampaging dinosaurs...
"...secret societies led by dastardly villains, fantastic gadgets and weapons, death-dealing traps...
"...hair-raising escapes and plots to rule the earth..."
'Doc Savage' debuted in pulp magazines during the 1930's created by publisher Henry W. Ralston and editor John L. Nanovic for Street and Smith Publications, with additional material contributed by series' author, Kenneth Robeson, aka 'Lester Dent'.
"Doc Savage" has since spun-off into radio, film, comic books and a series of 1960's Bantam paperback novels reprinting the original stories.

Dwayne Johnson is perhaps one of the busiest men in Hollywood, and while he has been promoting his new movie Rampage, his first of three new movies this year, the actor offered an update on Doc Savage, which may not be to most fans' liking. While Dwayne Johnson has been attached to star in a Doc Savage adaptation since 2016, with Shane Black set to direct from a script he's co-writing with his The Nice Guys co-writer Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, don't expect this to go before cameras anytime soon. Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say.
"First of all, love Shane Black and we've had multiple meetings on that project that we were going to work on. Right now, Shane's doing things. I'm doing things. Universal Pictures and Legendary are wasting no time moving forward with Dwayne Johnson's Red Notice, with the studio setting a June 12, 2020 release date for this new action-thriller. Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say on Instagram this morning, sharing a photo of himself at dinner with Thurber and producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia, where the Red Notice idea was first pitched to Johnson, while sharing new plot details.

That's a wrap! Dwayne Johnson, who apparently doesn't enjoy sleeping, has just finished filming his next blockbuster, Rampage. It's hard to argue against the logic that Dwayne Johnson is the biggest movie star in the world these days, especially after a report from last year that revealed he is now the highest-paid actor in all 7 continents. The actor even has a pretty good sense of humor about all of his astronomical success, which is proven in a hilarious new video where he's being pitched a number of ludicrous projects by his "agent," played by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Titus Burgess. This video shows what sequels to Home Alone, Goodfellas, Napoleon Dynamite and even The Revenant might look like, starring The Rock.

Earlier this month, Dwayne Johnson gave a new update on his Jungle Cruise movie for Disney, revealing that he plans to start shooting that adventure in the spring of 2018. As of now, Dwayne Johnson is the only cast member attached, and there is no director attached at this time, with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa writing the script. Today we have word that, while it may be some time before a director is locked down, Dwayne Johnson already has someone in mind, Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins.
The Associated Press ran a new profile on Patty Jenkins earlier today, and her road to directing Wonder Woman, which is only her second feature film after the critically-acclaimed 2003 film Monster, which earned Charlize Theron her first Oscar. Warner Bros. is currently in the process of gathering together a bunch of very talented filmmakers in order to whip the DC Extended Universe into shape. A big part of those future plans will involve Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who has long been attached to play the villain Black Adam in the Shazam! movie and, more recently, a Black Adam solo movie. He has now confirmed both of those movies are indeed happening, despite recent rumors suggesting that wasn't going to be the case.
Dwayne Johnson recently spoke with MTV while promoting The Fate of the Furious, but he couldn't get away from the conversation without chatting a bit about Black Adam and the Dceu. As always, the actor was very optimistic about things and teased that there are some surprises coming in the near future. Here is what he had to say.

Six days from today, Star Wars fandom will converge on Orlando, Florida for Star Wars Celebration, which kicks off with the Star Wars 40th Anniversary panel on Thursday, April 13. It has long been believed that the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be finally unveiled at this panel, but there may be plenty more surprises in store for fans over the weekend. Some fans have noticed that the official Star Wars Twitter account has started following actors Dwayne Johnson and Rosario Dawson, who, as of now, have no official involvement with this franchise. Some are speculating that they could be announced as new cast members of a future Star Wars movie next week.
Naturally, Twitter activity like this is by no means any sort of confirmation of the actors' casting, but there are a few other clues that may indicate that they may be cast in a Star Wars movie.

There's a lot that separates Dwayne Johnson from most other superstars. Sure, he's a giant man who has muscles that most of us don't even know exist. Sure, he balances humor and action with perfect ease. Sure, he can sing on top of everything else. But another unique aspect of Johnson is how open he is about his career and possible future projects. Most celebs clam up about deals in the works, but Johnson has a very open relationship with his audience on social media and will often express his desires to make things that aren't actually happening yet. There's been Black Adam for DC Comics, Doc Savage for director Shane Black, and Jungle Cruise for Disney. Those first two still haven't become official projects yet, but now, nearly two years after first...

For some time now, fans have been looking forward to the reboot to the Predator franchise. Ever since the first one hit decades ago, there have been a couple more swings at the character, and both have had underwhelming reception. Predator 2 took things to a silly level, and while 2010’s Predators was all sorts of awesome, it didn’t really do enough business at the box office to warrant a follow-up. Filmmaker Shane Black seemed like a good fit for the franchise. Not only does he have experience with action, but his dark humor fits like a glove, and if that wasn’t enough, he was in the first film.
Shane Black has been talking about this project for years now, though no matter how much he talked about it, he never promised audiences that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be in it. The closest he came to saying that was back last May,...

In the years since it was announced that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be playing the villain, or at least who we thought was the villain, Black Adam in the movie, he has only become a much bigger movie star. Recently, Dwayne Johnson shared some of his thoughts on the character, but it seems like he may not understand that Black Adam isn't actually a superhero.
During a recent Q&A on his YouTube channel, Dwayne Johnson answered a fan question about his role as the alleged antagonist in Shazam!. The fan asked what made him want to consider taking on the role of Black Adam and The Rock's answer was maybe a bit confusing, even concerning to die-hard comic book fans. Here is what he had to say.
"I love that he starts off as a slave, that he felt like he was wronged.

At the moment *spoilers* Superman is currently dead in the DC Extended Universe, thanks to his battle with Doomsday at the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. We know for sure that he will be resurrected in the upcoming Justice League, so he is going to be back at some point. It looks like after he is resurrected, he may have something exciting in store for DC fans in the form of an all-out brawl with Black Adam, who is going to be played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the upcoming Shazam! movie.
On Christmas, Henry Cavill took to his Instagram to share a nice message with his followers. It just so happened that he and Dwayne Johnson were sharing a drink together as friends. On one hand, this could just be a couple of actor friends getting together to celebrate, but it was his caption that really raises the eyebrows.

Lionsgate has hired Zombieland director Ruben Fleisher to helm their new film Jekyll, which will star Chris Evans. The movie is an adaptation of Steven Moffat's 2007 BBC One miniseries, which continued the events of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Evans will take on the role of Tom Jackman, "a modern-day descendant of Jekyll who is beginning to exhibit the trademark split personality. The father and husband abandons his family, without explaining why, and lives in a fortified basement with a psychiatric nurse as his ally. When they strap the doctor to a metal chair, she watches him transform into an alter ego who rages, shows heightened strength and speed and can be a charming, flirtatious scoundrel as well. You would be hard pressed to find a movie star move busy than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson these days, but he honestly may be a little too busy. His inclusion in the G.I. Joe sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation helped make that franchise a hit, but a presumed G.I. Joe 3 has been heavily delayed due to Johnson's packed schedule. At this point, it looks like it may be quite a while before we see the movie make any progress.
In a recent interview with Irm, star Byung-Hun Lee who played Storm Shadow in both of the G.I. Joe movies, revealed that the studio would like to do a sequel, but scheduling the actors has been a big issue. Specifically, working around Johnson's seemingly endless production schedule for various projects. Here is what he had to say.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is a one-man promoting machine and he's just used his Instagram once again to reveal info on the Jumanji sequel. It's our first look at his character's name and costume. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's Karen Gillan boarded the project earlier this week which also features Johnson, Kevin Hart, Nick Jonas, and Jack Black. We still have no details as to the plot and while I assumed the other day there would be two kids involved just like the original film, now I'm not so sure. Regardless, we now know Johnson is playing Dr. Bravestone and he'll look something like this. Exclusive First Look: Concept art of my #Jumanji character. "The Smoldering" Dr. Bravestone. (not sure where my pecs went;). This is gonna be fun.. Me, @kevinhart4real, Jack Black, @NickJonas and the Ginger Assassin @karengillanofficial can't wait to "play the game that plays...

Who says hard work doesn't pay off?
For the past year or two, it seems like every other article covers some endeavor of Dwayne Johnson or another. More than any other actor, this guy seems adamant about elbowing his way into just about any and every franchise under the sun.
Fast & Furious, San Andreas, Shazam!, Jumanji, Journey, Baywatch, Doc Savage, Rampage --and those are but a few franchises he's a part of, or will be a part of very soon. It's like the only movie that guy isn't in is Jem and the Holograms (no, wait, he was in that, too). If you follow him on Instagram, it's very evident that he's a hard-working dude, and 2016 seems to be a year that heavily reflects that fact.
According to Forbes, Johnson has secured a $64.5 million payday, which not only doubles his earnings from 2015, but it locks him down as the highest...

Next year, the cult classic horror movie The Monster Squad will celebrate its 30th Anniversary, which was a box office flop when it hit theaters in 1987, but eventually became a cult classic. The movie was written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker, and Ryan Gosling recently revealed that The Monster Squad was the reason he wanted to work with Shane Black on The Nice Guys. During a new interview, it seems that Shane Black would in fact be interested in making Monster Squad 2.
"I'd love to revisit [Monster Squad]. I hope that somebody at some point says that it would be great. They have all these new Universal monsters... At some point, the Abbot & Costello meet Frankenstein version... I wonder if there's room for Monster Squad in there?"

Captain America star Chris Evans is currently in talks to join Lionsgate's Jekyll, which will be based on Steven Moffat's 2007 BBC series. Chris Evans plays pretty much the most morally upright superhero there is as Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the Captain America: Civil War star may very well be about to take a villainous turn. The actor looks set to take on the lead role of Tom Jackman in Jekyll, an upcoming movie from Lionsgate.
The writing team of Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry (who worked with Shane Black on The Nice Guys and his upcoming Doc Savage adaptation) penned the screenplay, and Jekyll is actually based on the 2007 BBC One series which was the creation of Steven Moffat (Doctor Who).
Set in the present day, it revolved around Jackman – played on TV by The Hobbit star James Nesbitt – a descendant of Jekyll who begins to exhibit signs of a split personality. He then abandons his family, creates a new home in a fortified basement and finds an ally in a psychiatric nurse.

Lionsgate is moving forward with its Jekyll movie, and it seems the studio has found its leading man. A new report reveals that Captain America: Civil War star Chris Evans has become attached in the lead role as Tom Jackman for the studio. The project is still in fairly early stages, with no director attached at this time.
Deadline reports that the studio is developing this project based on the 2007 UK miniseries of the same name. The miniseries spanned six episodes and was written by Doctor Who and Sherlock creator Steven Moffat. Lionsgate has brought in Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry (The Nice Guys) to write the script, although no plot details were given.
Interestingly enough, The Nice Guys star Russell Crowe recently signed on to play Dr. Jekyll in Universal Pictures' monster reboot The Mummy, where he'll star alongside Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson.

According to the magazine, Johnson made $64.5 million this year - the highest paid actor on the list at number 19 overall with the lion's share of his money from movies and TV.
His "Central Intelligence" co-star Kevin Hart made a bunch more with $87.5 million and was sixth on the list, but most of revenue stream comes from his works as a comedian outside of film.
Johnson is currently filming "Fast 8" before tackling the "Jumanji" remake, the "Doc Savage" film, the video game adaptation "Rampage," the "San Andreas" sequel, and eventually the "Shazam!" film.

In a relatively short period of time, Dwayne Johnson went from being just another wrestler who was trying to make some extra money as a movie star, to one of the most prolific movie stars on the planet. It looks like all of that hard work has paid off. According to a new report, it looks like The Rock is now the highest paid actor in all of Hollywood for 2016.
According to Forbes, who just published their new Celebrity 100 list for 2016, Johnson made $64.5 million this year, making him the highest paid actor on the list. In the past several months, Dwayne The Rock Johnson has signed on to what seems like dozens of projects. Currently, the actor is on board for San Andreas 2, Jumanji, Doc Savage, Furious 8, Shazam, Baywatch, and Rampage. Of course, these are by no means the only projects he's involved with. Given how in demand the action star is, he likely has plenty of projects on the table. One such project is rumored by Deadline to be Wolf Man.

When Universal Pictures started their Monster Universe a few years ago, there had been talk of several different classic projects getting rebooted. Dracula Untold became the first installment in this franchise, after a post-credit scene featured Luke Evans' title character showed him emerging in present day. The Mummy reboot will be next out of the gate, hitting theaters next June. But we aren't sure which project is moving forward next. Today we have word that the studio wants Dwayne Johnson to star in their modern update of The Wolf Man.

Director Shane Black's upcoming sequel Predator 4 will be titled Predator. It begins shooting this September in Vancouver. And the massive production will last through December. This news comes courtesy of the Director's Guild of Canada. At this time, no cast has been officially announced. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been rumored to return as Dutch from the 1987 original, and rapper 50 Cent has said he's part of the team, but that has never been confirmed by 20th Century Fox.
The DGA has The Predator listed to start shooting on September 26. At this time, it isn't known if the entirety of the movie will be done in Vancouver, or if there are location shoots planned after December. It also isn't known how much of the movie will be shot in studio as opposed to out in the jungle. In fact, a setting hasn't been disclosed, with the previous reboot Predators taking place in the forest. It's not clear if this next entry in the saga will follow suit.
The Predator was supposed to arrive in March 2018, but last month 20th Century Fox moved the sequel into February. The story is confirmed to take place in modern day, and will not revisit the 80s as some have speculated. While it has been acknowledged that Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken meetings for The Predator, Shane Black refuses to further comment on his involvement. But it is believed that we'll get reintroduced to Dutch thirty years after he first tangled with the alien killing machine who hunts humans for sport. Dutch will not be the main hero, though, as Black has revealed the lead character is named Quinn MacKenna.
As of now, Schwarzenegger is listed as 'still in talks', though he has not officially committed to the movie in any capacity. It isn't known if the hesitation to return stems from his involvement in Terminator Genisys, which was a box office flop. There were 2 more Terminator reboot sequels planned with Arnie in the lead, but they were put on indefinite hold. The action icon is currently gearing up to shoot two other long-awaited sequels to some of his best known movies, including the follow-up to Twins titled Triplets, which reunites him with Danny DeVito and brings in Eddie Murphy as a third sibling. And The Legend of Conan.
Though Shane Black is also signed to direct Dwayne Johnson in a reboot adaptation of Doc Savage, the Iron Man 3 director has confirmed that The Predator is his next project. The filmmaker has a unique history with the Predator franchise. While working as a screenwriter in the 80s, behind such hits as the Lethal Weapon franchise, he was asked to help with the Predator script. While he turned that side of the production down, he did decided to take on a role as a member of Dutch's team, playing the character known as Hawkins.
The Predator will arrive in theaters on February 9, 2018. Shane Black's latest movie The Nice Guys is currently playing in theaters across the country. Thus far, an official Predator teaser poster has been released by 20th Century Fox. We suspect that we'll be getting official casting information soon as the shoot is just around the corner.

Director Shane Black's latest film, The Nice Guys, may have just hit theaters, but he already has two other big franchises on his plate: Doc Savage, and The Predator. The latter film is obviously a part of the same franchise that spawned two sequels and two Alien Vs. Predator films, but none were as well received as the first one.
With The Predator, Black hopes to bring some credibility back to the dormant franchise. The director has given us little tidbits here and there for months. He's teased Arnold Schwarzenegger's involvement and the overall setting, but has been pretty coy on specifics.
In a recent Q&A podcast interview with Empire, the director gave another bit of insight into the film, all while taking a little stab at the current generation of fans as well as sites like us:

This week brought the news that Dwayne ‘Don’t Call Him The Rock’ Johnson has been cast as the lead in a new Doc Savage movie to be directed by Iron Man 3’s Shane Black.
Though he has fallen into obscurity over the past few decades, Doc Savage is basically the original superhero and had a huge influence on the likes of Superman and Batman. A popular character from pulp fiction magazines of the 30s and 40s, Dr. Clark Savage – also known as the Man of Bronze – possessed superhuman physical and mental capabilities and was often referred to as a “superman.”
Let’s hope the Doc Savage movie is a good one, as it could reawaken an interest in pulpier superhero films. In many ways, it does make sense for the superhero movie genre to keep itself fresh by diving right back to the beginnings of superhero fiction, and so,...

When adapting a character as iconic as Lester Dent's Doc Savage, the temptation is always present to update said hero for a more modern age. But, like any true fan worth their salt, co-writer/director Shane Black knows that Clark Savage Jr. isn't one of those characters you bring into a more modern context. The reason is simply because he was one of the first of his kind, and truly a product of his time. Black addressed the matter during a recent interview with IGN, as The Nice Guys director and co-writer drew his big and bold line in the sand for his involvement with the Dwayne Johnson franchise started. Shane Black's explanation dictates the following terms: It has to be. I’m not going to do it otherwise. And if it doesn’t happen for that reason it doesn’t happen. People say & ...

Sony Pictures Entertainment continues developing writer/director Shane Black's take on pulp magazine hero "Doc Savage" for producer Neil Moritz and Columbia Pictures, with a well-known genre actor now cast as 'Savage':
Dwayne Johnson, one of the biggest men in film @ 6' 5" and 260 lbs., will play the copper-toned pulp magazine hero.
