Complete Rubbish

I gave up on this after half an hour, no jokes at all, a complete waste of time. A bit like watching some mates doing a home video version of Eastenders only worse. I can't believe anyone would release this. Lots of 10/10 reviews here that must be fake. Ricky Grover cannot act to save his life. This film is so bad I'm compelled to warn people to avoid it. Big Fat piece of turd would be a better title. It stinks. Watch the fast show mock up cockney barrel of monkeys if you want some cockney gangster comedy. Why do you have to write 10 lines to review this when one word will do fine. For gods sake just let me submit the bloody review.

A Balla Laughs

This is a very low budget, strange and off the wall but a surprisingly watchable film.

Bulla portrayed Ricky Grover who as well as starring in it, directed it, co wrote it and produced it. I think he might even did the catering and swept up at the end of the shoot each day.

Bulla plays a gypsy gangster just released from prison after a bent cop put him behind bars. After his release he is followed by a television documentary crew and his Aunty is about to lose her pub whilst being possessed by ghosts. His local boxing club has also heard the final bell.

Bulla is trying to to climb back to the top of the heap but the world has changed a lot since he has been inside.

Grover probably called in a few favours from friends when he did his stint in Eastenders and other shows. He was also aided by the hit TV show, Big Fat Gypsy wedding hence the punning title.

It's a mixed bag, rather Marmite, some people will hate this film, and its low budget limitations are plain to see but its reach has to be admired.

Grover puts everything in his performance as the hyper Bulla and there are some nifty performances from Rufus Hound, Omid Djalili and especially Steven Berkoff as the Eastern mystic.

It is funny, violent, weird but worth a watch.

Propa norty? Propa nonsesne more like.

The second worst Britsh movie I have ever seen - which is going some as the modern Brit movie crowd only deal in cliché when it comes to the flicks. You even get a bunch of smug posh people lurching round big old houses or a gang of awful 'villains' with cameos from plastic gangsters and soccer players.

For some reason most Brit movies feel like they have been made up by a bunch of self satisfied tits talking utter bs in some rich fool's over sized kitchen after a night out drinking Vodka Gimlets in Soho and snorting poorly washed cocaine.

Oh...wait a minute.

Propa Norty Geezahs. -10.

Utter Rubbish

I can't really fully express just how bad this movie is! What were they thinking of when they made it? It was a sad day for British comedy when this pile was released. There is no real thread to the storyline, other than it follows a random pattern of events and is presented in a stereotype, mocumentary fashion that has really been done to death, and to greater effect.

Many of the subject themes are not only offencive, and I don't mean offencive in a shock comedy 'ok it's offencive but it's funny' way...I mean just plain offencive!

Sorry to be negative, but there really is not one good thing I can think of to say about this film......apart from that it does eventually end.

Once more British comedy shows why it is the best

British comedy is accepted throughout the world as the best because it doesn't treat the viewer like an idiot. While idiots may not get it the rest of us will find this a hilarious comedy. I love watching comedies like this where you are not constantly being told when to laugh by the movie company. There are moments in this film when you will be rolling on the floor with laughter (idiots excluded). And all this on a budget of only £1.3m is to be applauded. When you compare it to bigger budget productions that were not even as close to being this funny it does make you wonder why they bother? I know, the answer is money. Big actors draw big crowds. But seriously, if you can just forget about all that and enjoy a movie then pick this one. Great acting, great lines. You will laugh (idiots excluded).

Had to turn it off!

Being a fan of British film making and gangster related films I looked forward to watching. You would have more fun watching paint dry in my opinion. The best part for me was when I turned it off! What the hell were they thinking having Tulisa from N Dubz appear!? I would like to know if anyone actually enjoyed watching and if the cast were that desperate for money that they threw their self respect and reputations away to be a part of it! I would have liked to rate this film a -10 but the option isn't there. Very disappointing considering some of the actors involved. A few actors played their parts well but on the whole the plot, direction and awful humor made me loose interest in the first 10 minutes. Big fat gypsy gangster? More like Big Fat load of rubbish.

Bulla is Genius

What can I say - I've been waiting for this film since I heard it was in production - - and not only was I not disappointed - it was funnier than I thought possible.

A great bit of British comedy with some amazing actors - Steven Berkoff to names but one.

There are some real funny gags in here and it just goes to show Grover hasn't lost his punch...The character of Jik Jikkels played by Omid Djalili is also hilarious and there is a scene in there with a corrupt policemen that still leaves me in stitches - OMG! Can't recommend this film enough

a must see

If you're a fan of Bulla it's a must see.Great performance by Ricky Grover. We need Bulla back on the box.Thoroughly enjoyed it. I think that it showed that Bulla has a lot more depth than you could ever get across on the shorts that he made his trademark on the 11 0'Clock show. One of the funniest parts of the film for me personally was the part where the old boxing manager is bemoaning the advent of cage fighting and Bulla responds to descriptions of cage fighting incidents of eye gauging and biting with "but that's a beautiful thing.I can't see anything wrong with that.A sport has to evolve. I also laughed out loud when Bulla stabs the reporter in the arm with an infected needle to make sure he's listening. I have seen a couple of bad reviews but I think it's from people who don't appreciate alternative comedy and don't like to think to deeply or listen too closely in order to take in irony. For me it was a long awaited must see and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Very very funny................

I've watched this film through from end to end four times now....seriously I have and every time I've discovered more laughs that I've somehow missed from the previous viewings.

In addition to which I've had two friends call up to say "Did you see that bit.....!!!!!" which I didn't....so I'm going to watch it again.

Have to say this is a refreshing, mad "British" comedy with a great cast which in my opinion we've been missing over recent years....and I would hazzard a guess will become one of those cult classics that we in the U.K. are known for.

My two sons think it's brilliant and are now walking around with dark glasses repeating parrot fashion most of the lead character "Bulla's" lines......something my friends and i did as youngsters with "Monty Python".

Very very funny.....not P.C. in the slightest....and thank god for that..!!!!! about time someone had the balls to make something off-the-wall and what highlights what we all really do find funny and are to frightened to laugh at because of all the "do-gooders" out there telling us it's "anti this or anti that".....good on you guys for getting this out there.

New contender for crown of worst British gangster film

There are no two ways about it: BIG FAT GYPSY GANGSTER is a terrible, terrible film. It's a skinflint production, written, directed, and starring the same guy (the unknown and untalented Ricky Grover), and it's a wannabe gangster spoof about a hard man who comes out of jail and gets involved in various shenanigans with the local underworld.

BIG FAT GYPSY GANGSTER appears to be mining the likes of CHOPPER for inspiration as it portrays events in a quasi-documentary style. Yes, this is supposed to be a comedy, but the laughs are of the lowest common denominator style; nothing funny here, just offensive scenes of dwarfs being abused and other lowbrow stuff. It truly is a bottom of the barrel production, with zero redeeming values.

Grover is one of those modern leading men in low budget British cinema (like Simon Phillips) who have no discernible charisma or acting talent. In order to put some names on the DVD case, a bunch of has-beens have been incorporated randomly into the storyline, the most incongruous of whom is an embarrassed-looking Derek Acorah. Others, like Steven Berkoff, Dave Legeno, and Geoff Bell, should really know better. Cameos from the likes of Michael Smiley, Peter Capaldi, and Laila Morse just seem to consist of them swearing constantly, which I suppose is supposed to be funny - if you're a 14-year-old schoolboy.

Simply Awful

To get straight to the point just please don't watch this film. I know you read see this on reviews a lot but this genuinely is the worst film I've ever seen! Normally I can tolerate a bad film as I can understand that the writers had an idea and unfortunately it hasn't worked out as they had planned. In the case of this film there can't of been a plan. The plot has no structure (or actual point), script is all but non existent and the acting is shocking. I decided to watch this one Saturday night as it was a new title with an on demand service and I really wish I could have my time back. I didn't want to just write a negative review but attempting to find a positive from this showing, for me, is impossible. My advice if you're really looking to kill time is to go find a wall of wet paint and watch it dry. I promise it will be more entertaining

Total Crap!!

I don't even know where to start......

I never found Bulla to be funny in the first place, so I don't know why I even watched this steaming turd of a movie.

Back in the 90's, I saw Ricky Grover headlining the night at Jongleurs in Camden. His stand-up comedy is hilarious, but Bulla is not. It's hard to believe the same person who headlined Jongleurs, could be responsible for Bulla. I just don't see how such a great comedian could come up with a character as crappy as Bulla is. It's just not funny. Judging by the score on IMDB, a lot of other people think it's crap too.

Honestly, I think Ricky Grover could do far better than this old guff.

Funniest UK comedy - laugh out loud hilarious

This is one of funniest films I've seen in a long time. Crazy, scenes and at some points i couldn't believe my eyes. My belly ached after from laughing so hard.

I watched this with a friend who knew the Bulla character from TV, I'd never heard of him, but that didn't matter one little bit, I got the character straight away - mad, insane but charming and lovable.

The other cast are great too, even Max from Seven Dwarfs is in it, loved this film and recommend it to anyone who wants to see a film that will make them laugh out loud. I'm gonna grab my mates, a few beers and get them to watch it again with me, it's one of those films. Brilliant!

Very funny

I laughed from the very beginning right through to the end. It's really nice to see that Britain has still got comedy and we are not always stuck with patronising American humour. (Even though there is an American in this - or is it just an accent?) There are some really cringey moments - but they are hilarious and at some points I actually felt bad for laughing, but you know what, if it makes you laugh - laugh.

This film is gonna stir things up a bit, and good - it's about time we were allowed to laugh at what we want and not let others dictate what we are and aren't allowed to find funny. I watched this as a family with my husband and 2 sons - we all loved it (even if I felt a bit awkward with them at times) and were all laughing and still spoke about it for days after.

Big Fat Gypsy Laughs

It seems like this film is getting a lot of flack from critics, so thought I'd come on here and set the record straight.

If you want a film that is deep, thought provoking, post-modern and reflective of British Cinema; don't bother. If however, you want 90 minutes of laughter and chaos then this is the film for you.

With a stellar cast and amazing music soundtrack, Big Fat Gypsy Gangster has given comedy a kick up the backside and finally provided us with a film that is funny. None of this laughing under your breath maybe once or twice in the whole film, this will have you in stitches throughout.

I wish some of these critics would give this comedy credit for what it actually is: a really funny film. The makers have made something that's hilarious, so there's no need to over analyse it.

I can't think of one film in recent years that has made me laugh like this one. Yes, there are flaws in the script and blah blah blah but to put it simply, this is a gangster comedy and Big Fat Gypsy Gangster does what it says on the tin! Job Done.

Absolutely Brilliant!!!

This has got to be the funniest film I have seen in ages, it is totally different from anything I have ever seen, it's absolutely mad! I couldn't believe some of the outrageous scenes especially the one with Bulla's Guru played by Steven Berkoff. I have already watched this film twice as there is so much I missed the first time, and I found it even funnier the second time round! I will definitely be recommending this film to friends as I'm sure they will thoroughly enjoy it as much as I have. There is a great cast with some very unexpected names cropping up, Derek Acorah plays a great part as does the brilliant Rufus Hound. This film is totally bonkers but absolutely brilliant!

Great British comedy. mad and very funny

I watched this movie and was laughing all the time. Ricky Grover(Bulla) and Omid Djalil are wicked together, two of my favourite comedians. To see how many great actors were in this movie was a real bonus(Steven Berkoff) what can I say only this movie can pull of having such a great actor like him playing an out there guru,Peter Capaldi had one of the funniest scenes with Bulla in the movie. I had heard a lot about this film before it came out and was not disappointed. I have found sometimes that British comedy movies can go one way or the other. but this film has done it, hilarious all the way to the end. Would highly recommend this movie to all, if you like laughing till your sides hurt watch this film. Thank you Bulla.

Not what i was expecting but still brilliant!

Watched this film by chance Saturday night, brilliant! Very very funny, the scene with the bent copper is genius, along with the cemetery scene had my jaw aching with laughter. The film is quite surreal at times but laugh out loud funny with unexpected actors cropping up throughout. We was expecting run of the mill British gangster flick but it turned out to be a hilarious off the wall watch. Perhaps the storyline didn't flow as well as it could have done but it didn't matter because the funniness more than made up for it. It obviously had something special going for it to involve the cast which included Peter Capaldi, Tulisa, Rufus Hound, Steven Bercoff, to name a few... be warned though, this is not a standard gangster film but an off the wall comedy... if you like your comedy, a must watch. Zum! Zum!

funny funny funny. great movie

This movie is a great, Ricky Grover plays one of the best comedy character created (Bulla) what a nutty guy. This film starts as it means to go on,fast moving, funny and full of attitude. With a great cast as well I was laughing my head of throughout the film.I really like that there was other little stories going on with the other characters as well, Rufus hounds battle with his psychic rival, and the accountant with is paper work and family honour crisis was just hysterical, funny stuff. I like the way it keeps of the beaten track of most comedy movies with some real out there serial content, also touching the heart strings at the end as well. Funny Funny Funny is how I review This movie. Oh Yes my favourite scene with out spoiling it for you was the therapy session and the old lady on the bus.

British Comedy at its best!

I watched this film with my girlfriend last night we couldn't stop laughing all the way through, even now we keep going over some of the funny scenes and characters in the film. I think we are going to have to watch it again because there is so much content it's hard to take it in all in one go. The main character Bulla is hilarious, he is a psycho but a very likable one, you can't help but feel sorry for him, the whole story is ridiculous but very funny. Peter Capaldi is brilliant as his unhinged therapist, and Laila Morse from Eastenders lets herself go as Bulla's lunatic aunt. It's about time more films were made to be laugh out loud funny and enjoyable like this one, rather than trying to be too clever and barely getting a snigger. Well done, more like this please!
