Indrans, Dhyan Sreenivasan, and Durga Krishna in Udal (2022)

Udal

Storyline is good, execution is not

The male actor is not upto the mark at all. The violent scenes are good initially, but become unbelievable towards the end.

Dialogues are bogus towards the end.

Indrans stands out with his acting , as usual.

Watch this one for Indrans.

Gory

Udal (Body) has a lot more going on than the unabashed violence and gore that you would expect from it. Shiny (Durga Krishna) is a shady young mother of a boy living with her aged in-laws, one of whom is bedridden. She is tired of caring for her mother-in-law, further aggravated by her husband's absence. And the only relief for her in this mess is her new boyfriend, Kiran (Dhyan). Things are designed to go wrong when one night Shiny invites Kiran to her home. The opening sequences are disgusting rather than eerie, making me question my decision to watch this after a full meal. But soon after the night falls in the film, I was hooked. And so it begins. Udal is a decently made thriller that would remind one of recent Hollywood thrillers, but I for one enjoyed what director Ratheesh has concocted here. Which is an inconspicuous psychological thriller.

Inspired from Don't Breathe

The movie is good in first half and bad in second half. The story was very good in first up and it build up nice tension among the characters. The second half ruined everything. They just made indran an action hero and he can defend from 2 strong adults. Lot of injury for indran but he still manages to overpower others. Second half is completely spent on Indran fighting and hitting other. Even kills one with trap.

It would have been an interesting watch had the indran s character used some other means to expose the guilty instead of going full action mode. Some unwanted sx scenes are added. Overall one time watch.

Well presented, balanced, strong, gripping thriller

Such a balanced presentation. Each and every actor's thoughtful and intelligent acting. The unpredictability of each event is disturbingly thrilling. Indrans chettan has just proved his immense talent and skill again. Wonderful movie. Its a strong and bold scripting along with a very wonderful direction. Awesome work.

curiosity at it's peak

An extra ordinary creation by Ratheesh regunandan sir. It's an ordinary story with excellent making. Indrans sir and durga krishna prefers an applause for their best performance. It may be another feather for malayalam movie industry.

Udal sets the thriller benchmark high

Udal: This movie is a different experience when comparing with other malayalam thrillers. A technically rich edge-of-the-seat-thriller after a long time.

DOP, BGM and sound design are the major highlights.

Career best performances from Indrans, Durga and Dhyan takes this movie to another level. Writer-director Ratheesh Regunathan sets the benchmark high with his debut movie. Felt like watching a Korean violence thriller.

A thriller that can happen in everyone's Home

Decent thrilling experience I got from this wonderful movie, it was emotional from each and every angle. I strongly believe that it can happen in everyone's life for sure, make sure that you do good things till the end... take care of your loved ones and no compromise in that... lack of care, you'll have to pay for it. That's it from my end.

Indrans has done it again.

Showing us what love and care means in such a time, Indrans rocked my world with what extend would someone go for love. With such a few cast members and excellent performance by Indrans and Durga, the film is a roller-coaster. Hold on to your Seats, Because there are some scenes that will make your spine chill.

Wasted great potential

The movie plot is somewhat similar to Don't breathe.. here the premise is good ..they could've done better with it... 1st 45 minutes is just unwanted long shots for no reason.. it lags a lot.. then after that the movie begins and we're ready to watch some action and it says "take a breath"(interval)..so technically the movie begins halfway..

Now this is what i expect from movies... violence just like hollywood movies... I DON'T SEE many movies like this in mollywood ..i liked kala.. now this .. this movie sometimes feel like a serial .. the music sucks.music of indrans was good.. Color grading is too dull... Lighting could've been better.. the violence scenese are just awesome..loved all those scenes... Several mistakes are there , but i didn't mind it, coz what i wanna see is violence... Malayalam producers like to play it safe..so they don't produce movies with violence so that they get money from family audience... Hatsoff to the producer to accepting the violence.. some more money should've been spent for vfx (which sometimes feel off) , especially the last scene , it is clear that the house is not the only house there.. the vfx trees are placed wrongly... The director could've avoided some of the obvious mistakes ... Overall i liked it because of the plot and violence but i didn't like it because of the bad making.

he single-handedly fights off his attackers

In the dead of night, a man is physically tortured by his exasperated daughter-in-law and her beau. Why? Because she is tired of being the homemaker while her spouse works in another city. They have murdered his wife and he is next in line. The man is old, he can't see or hear properly and appears to be vulnerable. Yet he single-handedly fights off his attackers and leaves the audience awestruck. The entire second half is shot in darkness and this is the film's biggest asset. Performances are excellent. The background music is another plus point. Do watch Malayalam film #Udal in cinemas. Rating 4/5.
