Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer in Warm Bodies : Renaissance (2013)

FAQ

Warm Bodies : Renaissance

FAQ

Eight years after an apocalypse in which most of the population has become zombies, human Julie Grigio (Teresa Palmer) is rescued by zombie R (Nicholas Hoult) (he can't remember his real name) when Julie ventures from her protected enclave in order to find medical supplies and is pursued by zombies wanting to eat her brains, thoughts, and memories. As R and Julie get to know each other, an unlikely friendship is formed between them that eventually develops into love.

Warm Bodies is based on a 2010 novel by American writer Isaac Marion. The novel was adapted for the screen by American screenwriter/director Jonathan Levine.

"Sitting in Limbo" by Jimmy Cliff.

When Julie's father (John Malkovich) refuses to believe that the zombies are re-humanizing, Julie and R escape from the enclave and join with a large group of Corpses who are also experiencing the change. When the Boneys attack, the Living and the Corpses are forced to fight side-by-side to defeat them. Julie and R become trapped by a band of Boneys, but they escape by jumping out of a door into a pool far below, R shielding Julie's body from the fall. After fishing R's body from the bottom of the pool, Julie realizes how much she loves him, and they kiss, which helps R to complete his transformation back into the Living. Suddenly, Colonel Grigio shoots R in the shoulder and takes aim at his head. Julie shields R's body with her own and points out that he is bleeding—proof that he is no longer a Corpse. The humans and zombies continue to fight together, killing off most of the Boneys, the rest of them crumbling to dust. In the days that come, the revived zombies slowly regain their humanity and assimilated back into human society. In the final scene, Julie and R sit together on a balcony overlooking the enclave as the walls are being torn down. Julie asks R whether he can remember his old name or he would like to take a new one, but R replies that he wants to keep it as "just R."
