Here at Dread Central any time the dead decide to rise and ravage the living is a really good time. Having them rise and lay siege to a church? Well, that's like a dream come true, and that's exactly what we're getting in the Danish horror flick Opstandelsen.
Incidentally, that title is insanely fun to say out loud. Try it ... Opstandelsen. Scream it, it's okay! Opstandelsen!!!! See?
Check out the goods on Casper Haugegaard's new zombie flick starring Hans Maaløe, Marie Fromé Vanglund, Mads Althoff, and Jonas Bjørn Andersen below. For more visit the official Opstandelsen Facebook page!

With a title like Opstandelsen - Resurrection - you might expect something fresh, innovative or at least uplifting, but this little Danish zombie flick is about as grimly downbeat as they come. Checking off all the classic tropes - a single location, a deeply flawed cast nursing a variety of crippling psychological issues, a group of survivors turning on each other - it clocks in at under an hour, and doesn't suggest there was much left on the cutting room floor. So what makes it memorable nonetheless?
You have to applaud its single-minded purpose, for one. When even other low-budget genre entries spend a great deal of time on scene-setting or side-stories which might have been better dropped from the running time, it's refreshing to sit down with something that charges straight into the apocalypse.
A family gather at a remote rural church to mourn their dead brother, Simon, but...

Grimmupnorth 2010 is coming to Manchester for a second time this Halloween! Readers may remember last year’s coverage from the first Grimmfest last October ‘09. Well, we’re going back for more this year too. Festival director Simeon Halligan and his crew have spent all year finding some amazing new titles to screen at Manchester’s biggest horror film festival, including Evil: In The Time Of Heroes, which I missed at Eiff so am well up for seeing. There’s also the inventively named Canadian shocker, Dead Hooker In A Trunk, the Japanese genre mash-up Alien Vs Ninja, Thai thriller Slice, Zombie mock-u-mentary Reel Zombies and a horror doc featuring all kinds of industry insiders, The Splat Pack. There’s also a ton of activities and seminars for festival goers to participate in too. Personally I’m looking forward to the special screening for my favourite Argento film, Deep Red.

I’m a sucker for a good zombie film. However, trying to find one that doesn’t suck the ugly green paint off a rusty Chrysler hatchback is quickly becoming a tough mission to accomplish. Promising writer/director Casper Haugegaard tosses his Danish hat into the living dead arena with his forthcoming feature “Opstandelsen” (aka “Resurrection”), and judging from the trailer I’ve carefully embedded with my own two hands, it looks pretty darn swift. The central premise doesn’t deviate too far from traditional conventions, but there’s an energy to the flick that allows me to look past this familiar scenario. What’s more, it features running zombies. I know my affection for the quick and the undead is akin to fondling grandmothers, but I honestly don’t care. Shambling corpses just don’t do it for me anymore. No word as to when, precisely, the film will...

I don't think we've done two stories coming out of Denmark in the same day ever! Okay first the Danes get that totally badass looking Alien Anthology box set, and now Danish filmmakers have released a really nifty trailer featuring the living dead on the loose in a movie called Opstandelsen.
The fifty-minute short-film which was written and directed by Casper Haugegaard is readying itself to make the festival rounds throughout the rest of the year, and we've got a look at the first trailer complete with English subtitles for ya.
Opstandelsen stars Hans Maaløe, Marie Fromé Vanglund, Mads Althoff, and Jonas Bjørn Andersen. Look for more about it as we get it.
In the interim visit the official Opstandelsen Facebook page here for more goodies like photos, etc.

Back in January we brought the first teaser for Opstandelsen. A tiny budget, fifty minute short from director Casper Haugegaard it looked to be one of those little films that manages to over achieve, with style and mood well beyond what its budget should be able to offer.
And now comes the full trailer, complete with English subtitles. The verdict? Does Denmark's zombie apocalypse still look as good? I'll leave that up to you! ...

Oh, Denmark. Home of sweet pastries, Hamlet's castle and Hans Christian Anderson. And zombies, if writer/director Casper Haugegaard has anything to do with it. Not to be outdone in Scandinavia by Norway's Dead Snow, Haugegaardis working on a 50-minute zombie short called Opstandelsen, which will arrive sometime in 2010.
Opstandelsen (meaning, according to a random online translator, either "the resurrection" or "the excitement" but hopefully both) has a spooky trailer that's a real feast for anyone trying to learn the Danish language. If you don't understand Danish, that's fine, just know that churches still won't be safe if zombies take over.
Check out the trailer below and keep up with the movie at its Facebook page:
