Per Deadline, Liang has been cast as Chun-Li, a martial artist and Interpol officer who seeks revenge for the death of her father by the series' antagonist M. Bison. She first appeared in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, which was developed and published by Capcom in 1991 for arcades. As for Liang, she's a relative newcomer to the industry, with only four major acting credits to her name. She made her debut in the first season of the Itvx teen drama Tell Me Everything, which premiered in 2022. Liang then appeared as a young Rue Corintha in a 2023 episode of Foundation before landing the lead role in the 2024 heist thriller Bad Genius. Her most recent acting credit was in the Steven Soderbergh-directed supernatural thriller Presence, which was released in theaters earlier this year by Neon.

Here comes a new challenger. The new Street Fighter movie has found its female lead in the form of Callina Liang, who starred in the haunted house horror film Presencelast year. Deadline reports that Liang will play Chun-Li, one of the franchise's most iconic characters. The film was previously set to hit theaters on March 20, 2026, but has not set a new release date.

In addition to Presence, Liang also starred alongside Benedict Wong in the heist thriller Bad Genius, and appeared in the TV series Foundation and Tell Me Everything. She'll join a cast that also includes Andrew Koji (Warrior) as the martial artist Ryu, Noah Centineo (Warfare) as his friend Ken Masters, Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as the electric beast-man Blanka, Roman Reigns (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) as the demonic Akuma, and masked country musician Orville Peck, in his big-screen debut, as the similarly masked warrior Vega.

Barbara Walters is remembered as a television legend, known for being a fearless interviewer who sat across from presidents, movie stars, and royalty. But a new documentary, Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything via USA Today, reveals that her journey to the top wasn’t as glamorous as many believed.

“Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything” is a documentary a lot like its subject. It’s sharp and inquiring in a playful way. It asks friendly questions but knows just when to toss in a tough one. It sizes up important people with clear-eyed worldly perception, but it’s also enthralled by the seductions of fame and money and power.

“Tell Me Everything” delivers the Barbara Walters story, in all its tasty fascination and significance, and it captures a great deal about Walters as a person because it refuses to be intimidated by how elusive she could be. On TV, she presented herself as a fighting mensch, someone who could disarm you with that sympathetic twinkle in her eye. Yet off camera she could be ruthless. She burned through romantic relationships as if they were seasonal shopping sprees, and one of her closest friends was the dreaded Roy Cohn. She was complicated.

It’s a familiar routine: Famous person dies and each network’s news division works quickly to cobble together (or finish off) a tribute special that answers a few basic questions — “Why was this person significant?” mostly — in a satisfying way that can be delivered within days of the death.

Tribute packages like that aren’t really “documentaries,” but they serve a valuable purpose for grieving or simply curious fans.

The problem with Jackie Jesko’s new documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything, premiering at Tribeca ahead of a Hulu launch, is that for much of its 95-minute run, it feels exactly like one of those immediately posthumous overviews.

Especially in its first half, Tell Me Everything tries to emulate the iconic television journalist by guiding audiences through basic information, and eventually asking the tough questions, or at least touching on provocative issues. But it only rarely pushes deeper than hero worship.

Barbara Walters didn’t set out to become a pioneer for females in media. The legendary broadcast journalist and “The View” creator was simply trying to survive as a woman in a male-dominated industry.

“She’s mentioned in the same sentence as feminist icons, but she wasn’t a crusader. She wasn’t Gloria Steinem,” says Jackie Jesko, the director of “Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything,” which premieres on Thursday at Tribeca Festival. “She wasn’t doing it for other women. She was doing it for herself.”

That doesn’t make Walters — whose career took off at NBC as the first female co-host of “Today” and shaped history again at “ABC Evening News” as the first female (and highest-paid) network news anchor — any less of a trailblazer.

Exclusive: Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) and Won Ji-an (Squid Game) have been tapped for key roles in Pyongyang Home Video, a new drama inspired by true events, which centers on two North Korean sisters reenacting Hollywood movies to escape the perils of their young lives.

Hailing from Imagine Entertainment and South Korea’s Desert Bloom Pictures, the film will be directed by award-winning Korean filmmaker Yoon Sung-hyun (Bleak Night).

A lot of children’s stories and beloved characters from children’s stories have been getting the horror treatment lately. Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Popeye the Sailor Man, Bambi, Peter Pan, and more have all become bloodthirsty maniacs… and the latest children’s story to get turned into a horror movie is Aladdin. Deadline reports that Aladdin: The Monkey’s Paw, “a dark, supernatural reimagining of the Aladdin story,” is scheduled to begin filming in the UK next month.

Music documentaries figure prominently in the features line-up of 2025 Tribeca Festival in June, when audiences will get first looks at new films about Metallica, Billy Idol and Culture Club, and Depeche Mode.

Metallica Saved My Life and Billy Idol Should Be Dead – both directed by Jonas Åkerlund – receive their world premieres in New York, as do Fernando Frías’s Depeche Mode: M; Matt Finlin’s Matter Of Time featuring Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder; Alison Eastwood’s Culture Club; Amy Scott’s Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?; and Miley Cyrus’s visual album Something Beautiful.

Tribeca Festival 2025 is out with the slate of documentary, narrative and animated features for its 24th edition, a intriguing lineup showcasing music legends, key cultural figures and stories from emerging and established voices. The fest runs June 4-15 in New York City.

You probably know about a relatively new trend of horror adaptations of popular children’s classics. And while this isn’t something completely new, the number of such films we’ve been seeing in recent years is over the top.

And while most of these films targeted stories that were, at one point or another, adapted by Disney, the majority were actually based on popular children’s classics or fairytales. A new horror adaptation is coming up, and while there is a Disney classic retelling the same story, this one will actually be based on a very old tale.

From Ghostface to a paranormal DJ? Deadline reports that the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) are teaming up with Paul Giamatti for a biopic about the late Art Bell. Best known as the founder and original host of Coast to Coast Am, Bell would field unscreened calls from all sorts of people, listening to stories of alien abduction, conspiracy theories, strange creatures, and just about everything you could imagine.

According to Deadline, several studios, including Universal, Amazon, and Warner Bros., are bidding on the Art Bell biopic. Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves are writing the script. This is a bit of a different project from the team that has given us Ready or Not, Abigail, and two Scream movies, but it has the potential to be quite interesting. Plus, I could watch Paul Giamatti do just about anything.

Alien: Romulus is heading to streaming. The latest installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise is set to debut on Hulu before the end of November.

Per Deadline, Alien: Romulus will hit Hulu on Nov. 21, exactly 98 days after the movie opened in theaters. The movie, which is set 20 years after the original Alien movie and follows a group of young colonizers who come face-to-face with the worst life form while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, has been available to rent or own on digital since Oct. 15. Roughly two weeks after its Hulu debut, Romulus will arrive on Blu-ray, DVD, and VHS on Dec. 3, giving Alien fans plenty of ways to watch the acclaimed sci-fi movie.

Set in a small English seaside town, the film follows a Cornish teenager (Cameron Ashplant), who prepares for and conducts a robbery on a small local bank. While preparing and robbing the bank he listens to a podcast hosted by a fake New York Heist expert (Eden H Davies).

Principal photography has begun, with production taking place in Cheshire and the island of Guernsey. Lydia Cherry (Black Mirror) also stars in a currently undisclosed role. The project originates from the Guernsey-based Across the Channel Productions, with Matthieu Mayer (Whispers of Freedom) attached to produce, and Charley Kendall (A Silent Imprisonment) set to direct. 

The film was written by Ashplant. His previous credits include playing Alex in Marooned Awakening, Chris in Whispers of Freedom, and Jamie in the Netflix series The Last Bus.

Paramount took to social media to announce that production has begun on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and no one looks more thrilled than Paul Giamatti. The Academy Award-nominated actor is a big Star Trek fan and is set to play the main villain of the series.
