“It felt axed”: ‘My Dress-Up Darling’s’ Abrupt Ending Is Still Too Unusual for Its Near-Flawless Run
In the realm of romance anime, a few stand out in the crowd, and for the new generation, My Dress-Up Darling is one of them. It might be a fashion and cosplay manga series first but the romantic tension between Marin and Gojo was palpable. It’s what made fans come back for more.

Their moments together are what makes the series immensely popular. Although it can get quite heavy and unnecessary with the fan service, Marin’s beauty and Gojo’s creative costumes make them the perfect match. Fans have been waiting to see them get together and build a life together.
That, however, wasn’t in the cards for us. My Dress-Up Darling ended today, March 21, 2025, and the ending was underwhelming, to say the least.
We expected to explore how their relationship went post-confession. Instead, we got an abrupt ending,...

"Thank you Fukuda-sensei for completing the serialization of Kisekoi! I still can't believe Kisekoi is ending," he said. "I'm so sad. I received so much through this work. The anime industry might have some of the most creative animation styles to grace our screens, but they aren’t immune to changes in their production team. Whether it’s a change in director or a new studio, it’s bound to happen to most anime.
Bocchi the Rock! is one of many to face this drastic change in their team. Keiichiro Saito directed the first season with Yusuke Yamamoto as his assistant director. For Season 2, however, Saito has stepped down and passed the mantle to his assistant.

Plenty of great anime have come and gone over the years. Whether you're looking for the next big shōnen action series or a casual slice-of-life comedy, there are plenty of great options for viewers to choose from. Series like Naruto, Chainsaw Man, and My Dress Up Darling are all outstanding anime that got their start through their stellar manga. Even if the anime is more well known, a good manga could be a great gateway for new fans to jump into the next big anime franchise.

The world of seinen anime is broader than some fans realize, because even if it's catered to adult males, plenty of seinen anime may appeal to fans of all types. Prominent seinen anime titles like Kaguya-Sama: Love is War and Vinland Saga are popular and are often discussed online, but plenty of other worthwhile series have smaller fan bases or feel somewhat obscure.
Some seinen anime titles do get some conversation, but they're overshadowed by the most popular shonen anime, which is unfair to these excellent shows that need more discussion outside their established viewer base. And some other seinen titles hardly get any conversation at all, even though they have plenty to offer. They are either hidden gems or simply got left behind as anime fans moved on to newer titles.

It isn’t your bog-standard romance series, especially with its treatment of relationships. While most people assume it to be a shojo series, it is quite the opposite. After a successful first season, the anime is making a comeback with its second season. But there’s more to it.

Humor is essential for any anime series, even the most serious ones, and plenty of anime characters are ready to make viewers laugh. Whether or not an anime is primarily comedy, there will always be at least one joker who wants to make the viewer or the other characters feel the humor in everything, from pratfalls to silly jokes to comical reactions to everything around them. All these characters have a good sense of humor, and there's more than one way to show it.
Some anime characters are comfortable with humor simply because they have a good sense humor, ready to see the funny side in the words and events around them, and they're liable to laugh. Having a good sense of humor like that suggests humility and good cheer, since a self-important or tightly-wound character isn't going to laugh at anything. In the realm of romance anime, few have made it far in this era but My Dress-Up Darling is a standout for its fun and vibrant plot. It’s a typical slice of life where you don’t have to think too much about the actions of each character. Moreover, Marin Kitagawa has become a very popular character for her cute looks but unfortunately oversexualized portrayal. Still, her dynamic with Wakana Gojo is very sweet. My Dress-Up Darling also takes the hobby of cosplaying very seriously and shows how much work goes into it.

However, there is a certain section of fans who feel that the anime is missing something and have been writing negative reviews on the internet.

From shonen to shojo and everything in between, Sanrio has collaborated with numerous anime and manga series over the years, including the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen, My Dress-Up Darling, Oshi no Ko, Rose of Versailles and Natsume Yuujincho, just to name a few. Now, Hello Kitty and friends are partnering up once again with Clamp's iconic magical-girl series Cardcaptor Sakura, releasing brand-new merchandise sporting adorable sketch-like illustrations.
This is far from the first time Sanrio and Cardcaptor Sakura have partnered up, with famous manga artist group Clamp releasing stunning original artwork earlier this year featuring Hello Kitty dressed like Ccs's titular protagonist Sakura. This time, Sakura returns alongside her best friend Tomoyo Daidouji and love interest Syaoran Li, with all three characters being joined by Sanrio's Hello Kitty, My Melody, Little Twin Stars, Cinnamoroll and Pochacco.

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is an anime about the touching and genuine friendships built between teenagers in spite of the difficulties of love and the romantic failures they experience. It's a refreshing take on the typical high school anime "love story," but while it's great for its subversion of the harem-anime genre, the greatest strength of this 2024 dramedy is its characters.
Makeine is full of genuine, realistic and well-written characters who so easily win the hearts of viewers with their charm, relatability, and the way they navigate the highs and lows of being losing heroines. And the heroine that most fans have been rooting for is none other than the adorable and reclusive Chika Komari.
