Before Brad and Angelina made headlines, there was Brad and Gwyneth. The two dated from 1994 to 1997 after meeting on the set of Se7en. They soon got engaged. Even in 1996, Pitt called Paltrow his “angel, the love of my life” during his Golden Globe speech.

Macy’s has optioned the Nyt best-selling novel When Women Ran Fifth Avenue: Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion to develop into a fictionalized TV series.

The book by journalist Julie Satow focuses on the untold stories of the women who built and shaped some of the most iconic department stores in America, from Dorothy Shaver at Lord & Taylor to Hortense Odlum at Bonwit Teller and Geraldine Stutz at Henri Bendel.

Macy’s is currently in the process of securing a showrunner and attaching talent for the lead roles. The plan is to incorporate Margaret Getchell, the executive who helped to transform Macy’s in the 19th century.

NBCUniversal has locked in one of the biggest events on TV for the next decade.

NBCU says that it has inked a new 10-year rights deal with the retail brand Macy’s, a deal that will keep its Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC, Peacock and Telemundo for years to come.

The Parade, which winds its way through New York City, culminating at the flagship Macy’s on 34th street, features giant balloons based on classic characters, floats filled with celebrities, and musical performances from artists and Broadway casts.

It is also a TV juggernaut, garnering ratings that rival only football games. Last year’s parade drew 31.3 million viewers, a new all-time record for the holiday tradition. The parade will celebrate its centennial in 2026.

Macy’s has signed a new rights deal with NBCUniversal, for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks on NBC, Peacock and Telemundo, marking a significant expansion to unlock content opportunities and continue the exponential growth that Macy’s has seen in recent years.

The 10-year agreement will expand beyond these two iconic holiday celebrations, including broadcast and streaming rights to both celebrations, a Macy’s Parade-eve special, as well as a new special program, to be announced at a later date.

NBC and Macy’s will light up the sky with America’s largest and most iconic fireworks display at the 48th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks.

The star-studded event, featuring dazzling fireworks, musical performances, and appearances by special guests, will air live on Thursday, July 4 (8-10 p.m. Et/Pt) on NBC and Peacock. An encore presentation will air on NBC at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.

Four-time Grammy Award-nominated recording artist Mickey Guyton and Access Hollywood‘s Zuri Hall will host the event. Lainey Wilson, Luis Fonsi, Tanner Adell, and The War And Treaty will take the stage ahead of Macy’s breathtaking fireworks display against the New York City backdrop.

“Year after year, this telecast never fails to inspire and awe, lighting up the New York skyline with a fireworks display that’s unmatched,” said Jen Neal, Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials at NBCU Entertainment.

Prolific Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano is directing an original feature film produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Kitano also stars in the untitled project, which is currently shooting. No plot, cast or release details have been announced so far.

Kitano has directed 19 films, including 1997’s Fireworks and 2003’s The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi, which won the Golden and Silver Lions respectively at Venice. His most recent project was 2023 Cannes premiere Kubi.

Kitano said of the new film: “We are currently filming diligently, so please stay tuned for further updates.”

Italy has submitted Matteo Garrone’s Io Capitano as its candidate for Best International Film at the 96th Academy Awards.

The timely drama follows the hardships of two Senegalese teenagers as they try to make it to Europe via the Sahara desert and the Mediterranean Sea.

The film world premiered to critical acclaim in Competition in Venice winning Best Director for Garrone, Best Young Star for co-star Seydou Sarr and Best Production Director for Claudia Cravotta.

The Deadline review out of Venice describes the film as “a blisteringly topical drama” that could be Garrone’s “best” film to date, in a filmography that also includes Gomorrah, Tale of Tales and Dogman.

The selection was made by a committee overseen by Italian cinema organisation Anica. Its members comprised Alessandro Araimo, Domizia De Rosa, Esmeralda Calabria, Daniela Ciancio, Francesca Lo Schiavo, Giorgio Moroder, Cristiana Paternò, Michele Placido, Paola Randi, Riccardo Tozzi and Gianpiero Tulelli.
