This article contains spoilers for "Weapons."
"Weapons," the latest horror feature from writer/director Zach Cregger, is a masterclass in manipulation — in more ways than one. Cregger's prior film (his first as a solo filmmaker), "Barbarian," was a movie that was very clever in its misdirection, leading audiences to believe one thing was happening when it wasn't, and hiding what was actually happening from people until the proverbial trap was ready to be sprung. Given the general rapturous response to that movie, Cregger must have been aware that his follow-up would be under heavy scrutiny for any big twists and turns from the start, something which "Barbarian" didn't have to deal with. As such, Cregger has built "Weapons" around the very idea of an unsolved mystery. In other words, both the film's characters and the viewing audience are asking the same central question: what happened to 17 particular children who left...

Amazon’s highly anticipated sequel to one of its biggest action hits from last year has now added the perfect villain. Starring Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and rebooting the beloved 80s action outing Road House, it has now been confirmed that the upcoming sequel will bring a former MCU star, and real-life fighter, into the fray.
Following much rumor and speculation, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista will face off with Gyllenhaal in Road House 2. The actor, who is also known for the likes of Blade Runner 2049, Army of the Dead, Knock at the Cabin, and more, as well as his tenure as both a WWE superstar and a stint in Mma, is reportedly “circling” the action movie follow-up, according to Deadline.

Of all the WWE superstars who've traded the squared circle for the cinematic stage, Dave Bautista is one of the greats. From Guardians Of The Galaxy to Knock At The Cabin, Dune to Glass Onion, and from The Boy And The Heron to The Last Showgirl, the artist formerly known as Batista has left no genre stone unturned in his quest to master a new craft. Now, the born-again thespian has just landed not one, but two major new gigs: a key villain role in Chad Stahelski's Highlander reboot, and a starring slot opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2.
Per Deadline's sidebar 'The Dish', Bautista is rapidly closing in on deals to star in both buzzy projects. In Stahelski's long-gestating Highlander — which is set to see Henry Cavill take on the role of MacLeod alongside Russell Crowe's mentor Ramirez and Marisa Abela's mysterious new...

The Henry Cavill-led Highlander reboot has found its villain. The upcoming Amazon MGM Studios project will be a remake of the original 1986 movie of the same name, about an immortal Scottish Highlander who battles various supernatural entities.
The original movie starred Christopher Lambert as the Scottish immortal Connor MacLeod, who is working as an antiques dealer in New York at the time when the movie begins, and Sean Connery as the Egyptian immortal Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, who becomes MacLeod's mentor. Cavill and Russell Crowe will play those roles respectively in the Highlander reboot.
Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, it has been confirmed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Dave Bautista will be playing the reboot's primary antagonist. Bautista's character is reportedly the immortal known as The Kurgan, who was played by Clancy Brown in the 1986 movie.

It’s been a quiet year thus far for M. Night Shyamalan after closing out 2024 with Trap, the psychological thriller led by Josh Hartnett. James McAvoy stars alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in Split, the psychological thriller following three girls who are kidnapped by a man with 23 personalities. Director David Zellner has credits going back to 1997, when he made his feature directorial debut with the comedy Plastic Utopia, working from a screenplay he wrote with his brother, visual effects artist Nathan Zellner. As of the 2018 Western Damsel, the Zellner Brothers became a directing duo, and in 2020 it was announced that they were going to be making an alien invasion comedy called Alpha Gang, with Andrea Riseborough, Jon Hamm, Nicholas Hoult, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Mackenzie Davis, Sofia Boutella, and Steven Yeun attached to star in the film. But Alpha Gang missed its 2021 production start date and the Zellner Brothers made Sasquatch Sunset instead. Nine months ago, it was announced that the Zellners were circling back to Alpha Gang, and the impressive cast they originally had lined up was replaced by a different impressive bunch of actors: Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Dave Bautista (Knock at the Cabin), Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die...

Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming sequel to the Road House remake has hit some major turbulence. Filmmaker Guy Ritchie had been on board to direct, but shortly ahead of production, it's been revealed that this is no longer the case.
Per Deadline, Ritchie has exited the project, no longer set to direct Road House 2. The project was slated to start filming this fall, but even with Ritchie's departure, the plan is for the movie to move forward with its planned shooting schedule. A search is now underway for a new director amid continued casting. It's unclear why Ritchie exited the project at this time, as neither the director nor the studio have provided an official comment.
The word is that Jake Gyllenhaal will reprise his role from the previous film as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who is a reimagined version of Patrick Swayze's character from the original Road House.

Many of the child actors from the "Harry Potter" films have gone on to have rich and fulfilling movie careers. Emma Watson starred in hits like "Little Women" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Daniel Radcliffe starred in one crazy passion project after another, and Rupert Grint (once dismissed as the weakest actor of the trio) has lately been proving himself with major roles in projects like "Servant" and "Knock at the Cabin."
Meanwhile, Tom Felton, who played Slytherin bad boy Draco Malfoy for eight movies, hasn't quite built a name for himself outside the "Harry Potter" franchise. His biggest role outside of "Potter" is probably still his performance in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," where he played a Draco-esque character who tortures the apes before getting his well-deserved comeuppance. After years of putting it out into the universe, Dave Bautista's dream of starring in a romantic comedy has finally come true. Almost. The former WWE champion has been very vocal about his desire to be a leading man in Hollywood, and not the type that saves the day by killing a horde of zombies. Instead, he's wished for years to be taken more seriously as an actor and not an action star, and his new project just might make people see him in a different light.
Per Deadline, Paramount has acquired the rights to The Romantic, a rom-com script written by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont that has Bautista attached to star. It's all in the very early stages of development, so no director has been announced, nor have any additional cast members been brought on board. For now, it's just a script, but for the former Guardians of the Galaxy star,...

Based on the Mattel doll of the same name, Gerwig's movie managed to bring the toy to the big screen in 2023, turning her into an absolute pop culture sensation, with the help of Margot Robbie in the title role. It ultimately went on to become the biggest box office hit of 2023 overall, taking in a shocking $1.44 billion worldwide and landing numerous Oscar nods (including one for Best Picture).
Aside from Robbie, the film is filled to the brim with incredible actors, including Ryan Gosling as Ken and an army of remarkable actors playing various versions of Barbie, like Kate McKinnon as "Weird Barbie." If Dave Bautista were to portray a role in Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcoming Road House 2, it would solve almost all the problems that the movie is facing with its cast right now.
Sources tell Variety that Dave Bautista has been allegedly offered a role in Amazon MGM’s upcoming movie with Jake Gyllenhaal, but we don’t know whether the actor has agreed to it or not. What we do know is that Bautista will simply look iconic in the upcoming movie if he agrees, and it will pave the way for a loosely connected cinematic universe, where Gyllenhaal’s character faces off against real-life fighters in standalone stories
Naturally, anyone would want Dave Bautista to portray the antagonistic role, which was earlier portrayed by Conor McGregor in Road House.

The hotly anticipated three-quel 28 Years Later debuted theatrically this weekend, nearly two decades after the franchise's last installment. The movie unites director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, who also worked together on the series' debut film, 28 Days Later. Produced on a reported budget of $60 million, the third installment opened to positive reviews and solid box-office reception, but audiences that checked it out on opening day weren't entirely pleased with its radical storytelling. The movie has earned mediocre responses from crowds on several aggregator platforms.
28 Years Later currently holds a 67% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which stands in contrast to its far more positive 90% critics' score on the website. It also earned a disappointing B CinemaScore from opening day crowds, which is just about okay for an R-rated horror movie, but on the lower end of the spectrum for a franchise picture. There’s a new heavy-hitter heading to the Florida Keys — and he’s bringing some serious muscle. Dave Bautista, best known as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, is circling a role in Road House 2, the upcoming sequel to last year’s hit Prime Video reboot. Variety is reporting, via multiple sources, that the 56-year-old action star has been offered a role in theGuy Ritchie-directed follow-up.
While neither Bautista’s reps nor Amazon MGM Studios have commented, the casting buzz suggests the Dune and Knock at the Cabin star could be stepping into yet another bruiser role — but with Ritchie behind the camera, expect some style, swagger, and maybe even a surprising amount of dialogue. Jake Gyllenhaal is headed back to the beach bars and backrooms, too, returning as Rick Dalton. Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit Road House 2, with Gyllenhaal reprising his role as Dalton...

It is very hard to turn an original movie into a hit these days, with horror often being the one genre where new ideas can flourish. Even so, it rarely works out quite as well as it did for "M3GAN." The Blumhouse horror/comedy arrived in early 2023 and kicked off that year's box office with a bang, becoming an unexpectedly huge hit for Universal Pictures. Naturally, that means a sequel. Enter "M3GAN 2.0," which is due to hit theaters next weekend. The question is, can it repeat the success of its predecessor under more difficult conditions?
Director Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN 2.0" is currently eyeing a domestic opening weekend in the $23 to $32 million range. For context, the first "M3GAN" opened just north of $30 million in January 2023, en route to a $180 million global finish. M. Night Shyamalan’s acclaimed psychological horror series, called Servant, completed its run on Apple TV+ with its fourth season wrapped up on March 17, 2023. The series was created by Tony Basgallop, and the executive producer for it was M Night Shyamalan, the brilliant movie maker.
The show became widely popular due to its slow-burn kind of horror, which gave you the chills without many jump scares. The show had a concise and calculated narrative, and even though the audience would have loved to see the show return for a season 5, it doesn’t seem likely.
Why did the makers decide to end Servant after season 4?
Right from the start, Basgallop and Shyamalan had planned for the show Servant to be a 4-season series, with 40 episodes in all, divided into 10 episodes per season. This kind of structure was decided to provide the narrative with the crispness and definite discipline it needed.
The show became widely popular due to its slow-burn kind of horror, which gave you the chills without many jump scares. The show had a concise and calculated narrative, and even though the audience would have loved to see the show return for a season 5, it doesn’t seem likely.

Dave Bautista "never wanted to be just a movie star".The former WWE legend has swapped wrestling for Hollywood with roles in the likes of 'Guardians of the Galaxy', 'Knock at the Cabin' and 'The Killing Game', and he insisted his movie choices are inspired more by challenging himself as an actor than earning the most money. He told Sports Illustrated: "I never wanted to be just a movie star or chase a paycheque.“I wanted to prove I could stand on stage with the best actors in the world and hold my own. That’s what drives me.”He didn't want to follow in the footsteps of fellow WWE alumni John Cena and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson by simply embracing the "action movie star" tropes. He explained: "I didn’t want to just step away from wrestling and become another action movie star.

Warner Bros. Pictures has dated M. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural romantic thriller Remain for Oct. 23, 2026. It was always expected that The Sixth Sense director’s next movie would go to Warners given the filmmaker’s deal there.
The only other wide entry on Oct. 23, 2026 is Jordan Peele’s next movie at Universal. Given the genre of it all here, one of these titles might ultimately have to move. If the showdown sticks, that’s intriguing: Shyamalan released several genre titles via Universal including Split, Glass, Old and Knock at the Cabin. He went over to Warner Bros to release Trap last summer which grossed close to $84M at the worldwide box office. Warners also released Shyamalan’s daughter’s movie, The Watchers, from Ishana Shyamalan; that pic grossing over $33M at the global box office.
As Deadline first told you, Jake Gyllenhaal stars in an original story co-created by Shyamalan and global-bestselling novelist Nicholas Sparks.

Talk about following a tough act. Sony's Until Dawn opened this week, days after Ryan Coogler's Sinners defied horror movie expectations both critically and commercially. Until Dawn will struggle to hold its ground in its debut weekend, while Sinners is expected to blaze past box office projections, like it did in its debut frame. Inspired by the video game of the same name, the movie opened to mediocre reviews and not-so-promising audience reception, which certainly doesn't bode well for its future. These missteps will ultimately work in Sinners' favor, as more casual audiences give it a chance thanks to the excellent word-of-mouth that it has been attracting.
Until Dawn currently holds a "rotten" 51% rating on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. But the film's audience score on the platform stands at a significantly superior 71%. A more accurate reflection of audience sentiment can be observed in the C+ CinemaScore that...

Known for crafting the stories behind his signature twist-filled films, M. Night Shyamalan is doing the unprecedented by teaming, for the first time, with another creative, and he couldn't have chosen a better co-creator. The horror maven is collaborating with New York Times best-selling author Nicholas Sparks to craft the story for a yet untitled project. It’s an unlikely pairing, but given their respective track records, it might just be a match made in movie heaven. The untitled film is described as a supernatural romantic thriller, a genre mashup that plays to the strengths of both Shyamalan and Sparks. Aside from a few casting announcements, the project has largely been shrouded in mystery, but as it begins to gather steam, the plot and character details have been made public.
Shyamalan and Sparks first developed the story into a novel, with the former concurrently crafting the screenplay. According to a new report via People,...

At just 25 years old (as of writing), Joey King has been featured in over 70 films and television shows dating as far back as 2006. Given the sheer volume of work she takes on, it's not shock that many of these have been critical and commercial duds you've either never heard of or wish you'd never heard of, like the "Final Destination" riff-off "Wish Upon," the middling ghost romance "The In Between," and the irredeemably pandering sci-fi thriller "Uglies."
At the same time, King has consistently turned high-quality performances in some memorable projects. Fans of "The Dark Knight Rises," "Crazy Stupid Love," and "The Conjuring" are proof that she's been ready for almost any acting challenge since she first appeared on a screen. From her extensive resume, we picked out our favorite roles and ranked them based on quality and how well they showcase King as an actor.

Plot: A group of summer camp counsellors are picked off one by one during an orientation weekend.
Review: Hell of a Summer marks the directorial debut of actors Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk. You can tell both guys, who also wrote and co-star, have a genuine affection for horror staples like Sleepaway Camp (which we featured on 80s Horror Memories) and Friday the 13th and summer camp comedies like Wet Hot American Summer. It’s a mostly painless 88-minute romp that doesn’t do anything to reinvent the genre or even function as a particularly good horror movie or comedy. Still, it goes down easily enough to play well to Wolfhard’s (many) fans.
It’s commendable that the two guys, Wolfhard and Bryk, don’t make themselves the movie’s focus, with them just two young ensemble members. Instead, the leads are Fred Hechinger and Knock at the Cabin’s Abby Quinn,...

M. Night Shyamalan's Trap was released in August 2024, earning mediocre reviews from critics. However, more than two years after the release ofKnock at the Cabin, the film is still igniting heated debates. There's no doubt about Shyamalan's fascinating legacy as a director. Needless to say, Shyamalan is the epitome of the phrase "hit or miss." He also has a habit of inserting twists into his films, some of which work while others don't.

Online, every weight fluctuation fuels speculation. Did they take Ozempic? Get surgery? Have an eating disorder? TikTok rewards these discussions. While some claim these conversations push back against unrealistic beauty standards, they often just reinforce the same toxic cycle tabloids pushed in the 2000s – only now, it’s the collective internet. And that obsession is contagious.

Dave Bautista was introduced to most moviegoers as Drax, the brutal but kind-hearted warrior of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. In the decade since, he’s taken his share of tough guy roles, in the 007 entry “Spectre” and the “Dune” franchise, but the 56-year-old actor has also developed his tender side with standout dramatic turns, playing a teacher with visions of the apocalypse in “Knock at the Cabin” and an insecure incel influencer in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
Now starring in director Paul W.S. Anderson’s post-apocalyptic feudal Western “In the Lost Lands,” Bautista shines as a more old-fashioned hero: a royal-employed gun-slinger in the distrustful, lonely mold of spaghetti Western rough riders. For the actor, the role was worth relishing.

One of the best science fiction movies of the last decade, Denis Villeneuve’s incredible Blade Runner 2049 laid the foundation for the fantastic director to continue down the path of excellent sci-fi filmmaking, culminating in his two Academy Award-nominated adaptations of Frank Herbert's seminal novel Dune. The film features some of the most stunning cinematography, fantastic music and sound design and patiently brilliant storytelling in recent cinema history, continuing to chronicle the evolution of robotic artificial intelligence and the implications that these life forms would have on a futuristic world.
One thing that stands above all in Blade Runner 2049 is the performances, pairing legendary actors like Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Robin Wright with relative newcomers like Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis and Sylvia Hoeks to create one of the most stacked casts in recent films. The following article contains heavy spoilers for "Paradise" up to and including episode 7 of season 1.
If you're not watching Dan Fogelman's new show "Paradise" on Hulu (Disney+ internationally), what are you doing with your life? This is a show that combines the kind of character drama Fogelman had the entire country glued to the screen for in "This Is Us," plus a premise that would delight Michael Crichton.
The heavy use of flashbacks and the high-concept, ensemble-driven story feels like something straight out of the mid-2000s, a time when shows like "Lost" and "Prison Break" had audiences endlessly debating what new plot twist and complication awaited the main characters and what new mystery would begin to unravel. If you somehow missed what already was the single best plot twist of 2025 so far, I am here to tell you that "Paradise" doesn't just have a killer first episode or a fantastic premise,...

If you somehow missed what already was the single best plot twist of 2025 so far, I am here to tell you that "Paradise" doesn't just have a killer first episode or a fantastic premise,...

Dave Bautista’s Rom-Com Dream! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Dave Bautista wants to star in a rom-com. No explosions, no apocalyptic threats — just love, laughs, and maybe a slow-motion run through the rain. But Hollywood doesn’t seem to be calling, and he’s starting to wonder why.
“I know I’m not your typical rom-com lead,” he admitted at the Knock at the Cabin premiere in New York City. “I’m a little rough around the edges. But I always, you know, I look in the mirror and I say, I ask myself, ‘Am I that unattractive? Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?’”
The man has played an intergalactic warrior, a deadly spy, and a literal apocalypse-bringer. But a charming bookshop owner who falls for an equally quirky co-star? Not yet. “I don’t know. It’s just never come my way,” he said.

Dave Bautista is desperate for another Marvel or DC superhero role. The 56-year-old actor played Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and has put titans of the genre on notice that he is willing to be in another blockbuster.Dave told ComicBook.com: "Drax is completely closed to me. Unless James Gunn called me and asked me if I would do something as Drax again, I just wouldn't be interested."If James called me, which obviously is not gonna happen. He's doing okay, he's gone a different route (with DC)."However, the former wrestler hasn't given up hope of a return to superhero blockbusters and has informed both Gunn and Marvel filmmakers the Russo Brothers of his wishes.Bautista said: "But I do wanna be in that world. I'm a fan of that world. I'm a fan of comic books and that whole universe.
