First Footage

The first footage from “Devara,” headlined by “Rrr” star Ntr Jr., has been unveiled. “Devara” reunites Ntr Jr. with his “Janatha Garage” director Koratala Siva, whose last film was “Acharya,” starring megastar Chiranjeevi and “Rrr” star Ram Charan. The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor (“Mili”) and Saif Ali Khan (“Vikram Vedha”) in pivotal roles. The actor had revealed to Variety that the film is a revenge drama.

The cast also includes Prakash Raj, Srikanth Meka, Tom Shine Chacko and Narain. The film is produced by Kosaraju Hari Krishna and Sudhakar Mikkilineni under the banners Ntr Arts (“Bimbisara”) and Yuvasudha Arts respectively and is presented by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander (“Leo”), cinematography by R. Rathnavelu (“Sarileru Neekevvaru”), production design by Sabu Cyril (“Rrr”) and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad (“Rrr”).

“Perhaps if people talked less, animals would talk more,” observes one of the human characters in “Charlotte’s Web,” a kiddie classic that serves as both the butt of several jokes and an inspiration for Adam Sandler’s animated “Leo,” an endearing Netflix original that strikes just the right balance between heart and fart jokes.

Basing the way Leo sounds on his squeaky-scratchy, slightly guttural impression of the late Hollywood agent Bernie Brillstein, Sandler voices a crusty old iguana who’s spent three-quarters of a century — practically his entire life — trapped in an elementary school classroom. Leo’s wisdom is largely limited to what’s taught in fifth grade, though he’s observed enough kids over his 74 years that the lizard reckons he’s qualified to advise this crop. Truth be told, he’s cheaper and more consistently helpful than your typical child psychologist.

It’s a cool indie weekend when the new album by André 3000, New Blue Sun, has morphed into a “cinematic listening experience.” Variance Films is putting the experience, directed by Terence Nance, into three theaters in NYC (IFC Center), LA (Cinepolis Inglewood) and Atlanta (Tara).

Right now, it’s just those locations but after this weekend, “We will see what happens, where the wind takes us,” said Variance CEO Dylan Marchetti. “I swear, I wanted to make a ‘visual album’ but this is literally the way the wind blew me this time,” André has said.

Asked what’s is on the screen, Marchetti said, “Vibes.”

There’s a war going on inside many Adam Sandler movies and the loser is frequently the audience. Sandler may be an innately lovable performer, but his sense of humor is also abrasive and immature. So for every great Sandler comedy like “Happy Gilmore” or the overlooked “Hubie Halloween” — films that strike a satisfying balance between charm and adolescent weirdness — there are also films like “That’s My Boy” and “Jack and Jill,” where our affection for Sandler can’t quite compensate for an overwhelming cavalcade of mean-spirited “jokes” that confuse bullying with whimsy.

But when Sandler delves into the world of family-friendly animation he usually sets aside his vicious streak, so his childish humor and uncomplicated moralizing can shine through. In celebration of National Substitute Teacher Day, Collider is delighted to share an exclusive new clip from Netflix's upcoming animated comedy Leo. The family-friendly adventure stars Adam Sandler as the titular character, an elementary school classroom's pet lizard. The clip shows Leo discussing and Squirtle (Bill Burr) — a turtle — discussing going home with a student when the new teacher Mrs. Malkin (Cecily Strong) insists the students do so learn responsibility. While it doesn't seem like an excellent idea to the turtle — given a series of past experiences including one student taking him to a tattoo shop — Leo believes that heading home with a student is exactly what he needs for his grand escape.

It's a little humbling to realize that Adam Sandler is in his mid-fifties, just a few years away from the milestone birthday of 60 years old. Sandler is all but enshrined as a comedy icon, having recently received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and being known to one generation as a mischievous part of "Saturday Night Live" and to another for his roles in animated films like "Hotel Transylvania." Mortality and legacy are -- at least somewhat -- a part of Sandler's latest project, an animated film from Netflix (where he's primarily worked for the last few years). The film is "Leo," which coasts on irresistible charm even when the plot is a bit light. Though "Leo" is perhaps not the most groundbreaking animated film of the year, its gentle tone and emotion mixed with some standard anarchic gags from the Happy Madison school of comedy work in its favor.

The upcoming Tamil film Thalaivar 171, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been creating a lot of buzz among the fans of Rajinikanth and Mammootty. The reason is that the two superstars are rumored to reunite on screen after 32 years, since their last collaboration in the 1991 classic Thalapathi.

According to various reports, Mammootty will play a major role in Thalaivar 171, which is expected to be a high-octane action thriller with a unique twist. Rajinikanth, who is currently shooting for Thalaivar 170 with Jai Bhim director T.J.Gnanavel, will join the sets of Thalaivar 171 from March 2024.

Thalaivar 171 is produced by Sun Pictures, which has also bankrolled Rajinikanth’s previous blockbuster Petta. The film will mark the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is known for his critically acclaimed films such as Leo, Kaithi, and Master.

The talented Pradeep Ranganathan who have delivered hit film like Love Today are joining hands with Vignesh Shivan for their next film, which is said to be a romantic comedy with a twist. The film, which is tentatively titled Wikki 6, will feature SJSuryah and Mysskin in important roles, along with a star-studded supporting cast. The film will have music by Anirudh Ravichander, who has collaborated with Vignesh Shivan in all his previous directorials.

The film is produced by Seven Screen Studio, which has recently bankrolled blockbuster films like Leo, Master and Tughlaq Durbar.

Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels heads the new films in UK-Ireland cinemas this weekend, looking to boost the fortunes of the long-running superhero franchise.

The Marvels opens in 665 cinemas through Disney. This is slightly fewer than recent Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) titles Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 (708), Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (680) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (704); the last MCU film to open on fewer screens was Chloe Zhao’s Eternals in 2021 (646).

Running for 15 years and counting, the MCU is still the highest-grossing film franchise both in UK-Ireland and worldwide.

Let’s-a go! “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” Universal and Illumination’s spring box office smash, is landing on Netflix in time for the holidays.

It will debut on the streaming service on Dec. 3, months after grossing $1.36 billion in global ticket sales. The animated adventure will still be available on Peacock, the platform owned by NBCUniversal, where it premiered in August. Universal struck a licensing deal to let “Mario” play on Netflix, which has far more subscribers than Peacock.

A collaboration between Universal, Illumination and Nintendo, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” became a four-quadrant hit and the first movie of the year to cross the $1 billion mark. Mollywood is gearing up for one of the most awaited films of the year, Bandra, starring Dileep and Tamanna Bhatia in the lead roles. The film is directed by Arun Gopy, who made his debut with the blockbuster Ramaleela, which also featured Dileep in a political thriller. Bandra is an action-packed film that promises to keep the audience on the edge of their seats with its twists and turns.

According to reports, Bandra is the story of Alen “Aala” Alexander Dominic, played by Dileep, a Mumbai-based businessman who has a mysterious past. He gets entangled in a web of crime and corruption when he crosses paths with Raghavendra Desai, played by Dino Morea, a ruthless gangster who rules the underworld of Bandra. Tamanna Bhatia plays Tara Janki, a journalist who is on a mission to expose the truth behind the crimes in Bandra. She joins hands with Aala to fight against the evil forces.

Vijay-starring “Leo: Bloody Sweet” is the fifth highest grossing Indian film of the year with $72 million. Its director Lokesh Kanagaraj is now in high demand.

The film got off to a winning start when it released in October, debuting in third position at the global box office with a $31.2 million weekend. The action-thriller follows a docile cafe owner (Vijay) who is incited to return to his violent past. The film name checks David Cronenberg’s 2005 film “A History of Violence.”

“It inspired me to write ‘Leo.’ ‘A History of Violence’ left its mark on me and from that this movie was born. ‘Leo’ is my tribute,” Kanagaraj told Variety. “The success of ‘Leo’ means a lot to not just me but the entire team.”

The trailer for actor Sathish’s horror-comedy film ‘Conjuring Kannapan’ is out, and it is both terrifying and hilarious. Full of eerie happenings, lurking ghosts, abominable horrors, all the while fused with a lot of rib tickling comedy, the film is both twisted and comical.

The trailer starts off as pure horror, as Satish is always finding himself in one house while he sleeps. An eerie mansion, he always finds a ghost who is never fully revealed but always scares the living daylights out of him.

Confused and sweating with heart palpitations, the trailer then shifts to Naseer who tells him that in this dream an evil bloody thirsty spirit is wondering. In ‘Matrix’ fashion, you die in the dream then you die for real as the ghost will destroy the mind.

Then after a couple of other spooky ‘Conjuring’ style horrors, the trailer adopts a complete change in tone and becomes hilarious.
