Writer and filmmaker Caden Douglas is taking a stab at family trauma with his upcoming film, Mother Father Sister Brother Frank and Collider is drawing blood with an exclusive clip. After a family dinner goes horribly wrong, Juan Chioran’s (Hotel Transylvania - The Series) Uncle Frank lies dead on the floor. It’s an absolute mess of a crime scene in the suburban home where the mother, father, sister, and brother, gather around the dead body and conspire to cover it up.

Taglines: "What would you do for your child?" Motherly was formerly titled Daughters. Now, Motherly is nearing completion, with Raven Banner Entertainment preparing to deliver the film worldwide. In the film, Kate (Lora Burke) and her nine year old daughter move into a farmhouse, just outside of town. Here, a couple invade their home, demanding answers to a still fresh murder. This title, from director Craig David Wallace (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil), also stars: Tessa Kozma ("My Paranormal Nightmare"), Kristen MacCulloch, Angel Gallego and several others. A preview of the film's story details and early promotional material are here. The concept poster shows Beth - with a fractured line. Representing an earlier victim, this graphic shows two characters in one. As well, the line represents a fractured family. And, this early poster will give viewers a bit of insight as to what to expect in Motherly. As well,...

Japanese-Canadian filmmaker Warren P. Sonoda has been working his way throughout the Canadian film industry working on titles that we locals all know, possibly even love: Murdoch Mysteries, Trailer Park Boys, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil and This Hour Has 22 Minutes. He's been largely working in television after starting his career with a handful of feature films and his return to feature length this time is special because his new film Things I Do For Money is the first Canadian genre film written and directed by a Japanese-Canadian filmmaker, starring four Japanese-Canadian actors that has ever been made. Things I Do For Money goes digital here in Canada, launching August 11th, and we have an exclusive clip to share with...

Production began this week, here in Toronto, on a new thriller called Daughters from Craig David Wallace. This will be the sophomore feature film from the co-creator and showrunner of the series Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, though we get the sense that Daughters is a different ball of wax. It follows a single mother stalked by a vengeful couple who believe she’s responsible for their daughter’s murder. Daughters stars Lora Burke, Kristen MacCulloch (The Vault and upcoming Psycho Goreman), Nick Smyth, and Colin Paradine. It will be the debut of Tessa Kozma. Daughters is being produced by a number of friends...

It's been awhile since we've heard about Todd and The Book of Pure Evil: The End of The End, an animated feature-length movie based on the popular Canadian TV show. The official Todd Facebook page has arrived with an update. And an animated teaser! It sounds like this movie might be finished this year. For now, we only get to see a quick 15 second glimpse at what's to come.
Todd and The Book of Pure Evil: The End of The End has been a long time coming, with a successful Indiegogo campaign coming to an end way back in the summer of 2013. The team behind the upcoming movie raised $124,000 from fans. But as it turns out, the movie needed an additional $750,000 to be completed and released in theaters. It took the filmmakers another year-and-a-half to find the proper funding, but as luck would have it, the Government of...

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
It’s more fitting than frustrating that Slasher, horror network Chiller’s first foray into original scripted programming, unspools as an unabashed amalgam of horror movie tropes. After all, the NBCUniversal-owned channel has carved out a funky little niche for itself broadcasting “scary good” films and TV series, from classics like Kolchak: The Night Stalker to little gems like Harper’s Island, not so much curating its content as airing it all as a bloody buffet for horror hounds.
That approach has kept the lights on up until now, encouraging Chiller to think bigger with original features like Animal and (excellent) SXSW entry The Boy. And so, despite the creative energies of director Craig David Wallace (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil) and writer-creator Aaron Martin (DeGrassi: The Next Generation), it makes sense that Slasher is also guided by the techniques and...

On the heels of Animal, its most-watched original movie to date – and the SXSW 2015 premiere of its original movie The Boy – Us horror channel Chiller have announced new original content for 2015 and 2016, including its first-ever original series, Slasher, and two new original movies, Lifeforce and Siren.

Chiller delivers a broad range of compelling horror programming, from classic edge-of-your-seat thrillers to thought-provoking psychological dramas. Given Chiller’s success in the original film space with Animal and The Boy, we’re thrilled to premiere our first-ever original series, Slasher, later this year.
Chiller’s first original series, Slasher, follows the plight of a young woman who returns to the small town where she was born, only to find herself the centerpiece in a series of horrifying copycat murders – based on the widely-known, grisly killings of her parents. Also in development at Chiller (and slated for a 2016 debut) is Siren, a full-length film adaptation of David Bruckner's highly regarded V/H/S segment, Amateur Night, which gave viewers a chilling new perspective on the line, "I like you."

As someone who relishes new and unusual storytelling, it’s been great to see the recent boom of films coming out of New Zealand, a country that embraces and celebrates the unusual in ways most other places in the world just cannot. The latest Kiwi film to make its way Stateside is Jason Lei Howden’s Deathgasm, the ridiculously fun and bombastic celebration of horror and heavy metal that premiered at the 2015 SXSW Film Festival last night. While the film may garner a lot of attention for it’s more over-the-top approach to gore, nudity and its clever use of sex toys, what makes Deathgasm so special is that the story itself is full of heart and features breakout performances from both Milo Cawthorne and Kimberley Crossman, who bring tons of infectious energy to the project.

We talked to Jason Mewes this week about the release of Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie On Deman, and we couldn't help but bring up the cult Canadian TV series Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. The show ended after two very successful seasons, but wasn't renewed because of its high budget. This was before it caught on in America, as a new audience became attached to the supernatural comedy about a pair of high school friends attempting to keep a dangerous book out of the wrong hands. Airing on Netflix, more and more people are joining the cult of Todd as we speak.
But not to worry. The series isn't completely dead. An animated movie is on the way, and will wrap up the series while leaving it open for another season or a live action movie, if enough interest demands it.

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are getting animated in Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, an all-new adventure in the View Askewniverse. Stoners Jay and Bob hit the lottery jackpot and use their cash windfall to become crime-fighting superheroes in this latest outing, now available On Demand. We recently caught up with Jay himself, Mr. Mewes, for a chat about the movie. It was originally conceived as a tour-only treat for fans, but once they realized shows were selling out, and not everyone could see it, they decided to bring it home. We discuss this, the inevitable groovy cartoon sequel that Jason is currently writing, and the destiny of the long awaited Clerks III. And for all you Todd and the Book of Pure Evil fans, don't worry! He also gives us an update on this cult classic Canadian TV show that continues to amass a huge following here in the states.

Back in 2011 Fearnet had the pleasure of bringing Todd and The Book of Pure Evil to the Us. But we know that not everyone had the chance to catch the show because our channel wasn’t carried by their TV provider. If you fell into that category now is your chance to catch up. The entire first season is now available via hulu. What is Todd and The Book of Pure Evil? Well, it is a supernatural comedy featuring Jason Mewes ("Mallrats," "Clerks") that tells the story of a small-town high school kid trying to save the world. The hilariously twisted series also stars Alex House, Maggie Castle, Bill Turnbull, Melanie Leishman and Chris Leavins.
Check out the first episode embedded below or head over to hulu for all 13 eps.

While we anxiously await the return of Spooker Washington and his Halloween picks this year, IMDb (the 'self-proclaimed' authoritarian voice on movies and TV) have revealed their top 13 must-see movies and TV episodes to watch this Halloween, as selected by their own team of experts. From sinister classics like Hellraiser (which we included in our own classic horror movies list), The Shining and Alien, to family fare like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, the diverse list covers a spectrum of genres and tones. Also included among the (un)lucky 13 are episodes of The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as a documentary on the history of witchcraft called Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages*. And if that wasn't enough, our own Spooker Washington has chimed in with alternative picks in case you've already seen these.

Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is about a demonic high school where a group of teens partner with a janitor (Jason Mewes) to fight the evil forces running the school (and possibly the world?). It's like Glee meets Scott Pilgrim with far worse dialogue and writing than Glee ever mustered (if that's even remotely possible). And it's more Canadian, or something.
Although, I never watched the first season, I'm noW kind of glad I didn't. While not a terrible concept or anything, the execution is piss-poor. The acting is abysmal and the writing is completely lifeless. I'm not sure I understand the high marks the series gets, or how this series has fans in any way, shape or form.

Genre television is becoming a major presence in primetime TV. Shows like American Horror Story, Hannibal, True Blood and Grimm are dominating the air and doing big numbers for cable and network stations alike. Subsequently, there is a new trend of reviving series once thought to be dead. Netflix is resurrecting Arrested Development, Fox is bringing back 24, TBS rebooted Cougartown. FEARnet is even getting in on the game, bringing back Reaper with an all-new reunion special airing May 28th.
We at FEARnet, being die-hard horror fans, have some ideas as to what we would like to see rebooted, revived, retooled, or resurrected for another turn in the spotlight. There are plenty of factors that play in to the viability of revamping or resurrecting a series. There are concerns of continuity, scheduling, the aging of the cast, and more. We are not proclaiming that a revival of each of these series is necessarily logical.

Amanda Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus in Sanctuary.
Sanctuary isn’t dead. That is what star and co-executive producer Amanda Tapping told me when I sat down with her last week as she was preparing to direct an episode of the upcoming Space series Primeval: New World.
“I don’t think that Sanctuary is dead. If you look really closely you can see the chest rising and falling and I’m standing by with the paddles,” she said, smiling.
Fans have been wondering what has become of the Canadian sci-fi series since the fourth season ended last Christmas. CinemaSpy recently ran a poll asking our readers which of a number of science fiction series they would like to see return for another season: As of today Sanctuary has received over 100,000 votes.
Neither of the North American broadcasters—Space in Canada and Syfy in the U.S.—has said whether Sanctuary has been renewed.

Sadly, "Evil" shall not prevail.
Canadian TV channel Space has confirmed that it won't be renewing cult hit "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil" for a third season. The news comes as quite a shock, given the show's accolades from critics and fans alike. It was recently picked up in foreign markets like Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany, where fans were heard crying out "ingen!""nei!"and "kien!" upon hearing that their new favourite show won't be back.
The show's creator, Craig David Wallace, revealed the news last night at the Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards, where, ironically, he was being honoured for his work on "Todd." In a state of disbelief, we reached out to a Space rep who confirmed that yes, it is indeed true. Nooooo!

Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is a curious thing. It’s a Canadian horror-comedy television series about a small band of high-schoolers battling evil caused by a cursed book (a la The Evil Dead). Each episode follows a hapless teenager whom the book finds and then puts a curse upon. This of course is followed by paranormal activity and eventual bloodshed. It is then up to stoner Todd and his friends to find the book and conquer the evil it unleashes. Season one is now out on DVD and you might want to check this cool show out.

Award-winning fantasy series Todd And The Book of Pure Evil is set to finally make it’s UK debut on Tuesday March 6th on Syfy after a successful two-year run on Canadian television. One of the series’ key cast members is a Mr. Jason Mewes, who plays the Mr Miyagi-like Jimmy the janitor (pictured below) on the show – although no doubt many of you will recognise him the hetero life-partner of one Silent Bob in the movies of Kevin Smith…
In London for the Jay And Silent Bob Get Old stand-up tour, I managed to grab him for a (very) quick chat about the show. Here’s what he had to say:
So, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, it sounds like a show that is right up may street, but what can we expect to see?
Jason Mewes: Monsters, penises, dildos, women, you’ll see everything man.

2011 was a pretty big year for the TV world in general. Oprah said farewell to her beloved daytime chatfest. Regis bid adieu to mornings with Kelly and Gelman. And Kim Kardashian broadcast her "fairytale" wedding for all the world to bask in. Here in Canada, we had some pretty memorable small screen moments of our own.
Perhaps most notably, our Canuck quest for global TV domination continued to gain momentum with homegrown shows like "Rookie Blue,""Todd and the Book of Pure Evil,""Lost Girl" and "Republic of Doyle" steadily growing their international audiences around the world (and we also reinforced the global stereotype that Canadians are an attractive bunch, with the likes of Anna Silk, Missy Peregrym and Allan Hawco representing us on the world stage).
Since it’s that time of year (yes, list time), we've compiled a list of the top 11 most memorable moments in Canadian TV this year.

Just last month, we brought you the news when Russell Crowe (The Man with the Iron Fists) who portrays Jor-El, the biological father of Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) in the forthcoming Zack Snyder directed, Man of Steel revealed that Jor-El would be battling General Zod (Michael Shannon) on Krypton in the hotly anticipated reboot.
Now, it appears they won’t be alone. In a recent interview on the Canadian channel, Space, actor Julian Richings revealed that he too will be acting on Krypton alongside Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe. Richings couldn’t reveal much more than that to the hosts of Innerspace, though he does say that the scenes he filmed over the course of a week in Vancouver were done opposite Crowe and Shannon in a place the size of a hockey arena that was one giant green screen.

When audiences last left "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil," Atticus had a hissy spat with his father and before audiences could blink, he throws the best comedic-style line in cliffhanger history, "Geez, I wonder what's going to happen next?"
Audiences will find out October 23, as Space, The Imagination Station continues the adventures of Todd, Curtis, Hannah and Jenny. In the meantime, FEARnet and the Comedy Network has been reairing season one, which should cumulate to the second season's premiere in the States. Hopefully this time, there will not be a year long wait.
"Todd and the Book of Pure Evil" premiered to Canadian audiences first in 2010, and over the summer State-side networks acquired the rights to rebroadcast it in the States. Todd and his gang of friends are reacquiring the book, which grants its owner a wish in Evil Dead fashion. It is going to get even more interesting in season two.

FEARnet's Twisted Comedy Hour is set to premiere Tues, August 2nd, and this broadcast could not be any better. Todd and the Book of Pure Evil will be supplemented with similar kinds of extras and editorial content that was featured during its Canadian run, on Space: The Imagination Station and Psychoville will have bonus show material to bring over new fans.
Both products premiered in the past year(s) in its native country to a great fan reception. They have even garnered nods in industry magazines like Fangoria and Rue Morgue. Psychoville also earned the prestigious British Comedy Award. Just when Tues evenings may begin to look boring, horror-comedy hopes to liven things up.

*This is another in-depth review of a television series from Ed Sum.
Horror-comedy has a new name in the Canadian produced television series, "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil." When it’s mixed up early Sam Raimi style—with lots of camp and cheese—and backed up talent from the likes of show creators Craig David Wallace, Charles Picco, Anthony Leo; and fellow directors like David Winning ("Friday the 13th the TV Series," "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", "Blood Ties"), there’s a masterful chemistry that’s at work.
While some episodes are formulaic in its look at high school life, the thing that keeps people coming back for more is the strong cast of characters. Todd Smith (Alex House) is not your usual pretty boy, and nor are his friends. The shift is on the freaks and geeks.
It’s up to Todd, his best pal, Curtis...
