Anne Rice's New Orleans Garden District home was the setting of the Mayfairs' ancestral home in the novels. For those who are not local to the area, the Garden District is just outside the Central Business District. The area is known for its opulent mansions and oak tree lined streets, the St. Charles streetcar, Magazine Street shopping and restaurants, the renowned Commander's Palace restaurant, and the historic Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.

The Talamasca group's official motto, which they printed on their business cards, was "We watch and we are always here." In the original Latin it is "Spectamus et semper ibi sumus." Rice found the word "Talamasca" in a history book, learning it meant "animal mask" in Latin. (In some cultures, it meant witch or shaman.)

The 17th century Scottish part of Mayfair Witches started with the set that they called The Midwife's Village. As the series' story evolved, they had to build a larger village by taking over what had been the Storyville set for Entretien avec un vampire (2022) and turning it into a Scottish village. The costume and makeup artists then created and designed wardrobe and hair for hundreds of Scottish extras.
