Two years ago, we heard that Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) would be starring in The Leader, a true crime biopic about a story that shocked the world back in 1997, the mass suicide of the members of the Heaven’s Gate cult. That project has finally made it into production, and Deadline reports that Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) has joined the cast. Details on the character he’ll be playing haven’t been revealed – but it’s not difficult to imagine him playing a member of the Heaven’s Gate cult.
Farmiga is playing cult leader Bonnie Nettles, a.k.a. Ti. Nelson’s character is the cult’s infamous frontman, Marshall Applewhite, a.k.a. Do. Also in the cast are Simon Rex (Red Rocket), Grace Caroline Currey (Fall), Matthew Glave (The Wedding Singer), William Mapother (In the Bedroom), Jb Yowell (A Jar Full of Christmas...

The Yorkie Werewolf was bound to happen. With lycanthropes making a comeback lately, from Werewolves to The Beast Comes at Midnight and 12 To Midnight, somebody had to spoof them. Yes, the world’s slowest animal has turned homicidal and is carving up sorority girls like a seasoned slasher. Although, as the prologue that shows the critter getting bagged by poachers hints, this isn’t your typically chill furry tree hanger.

The Jeepers Creepers franchise began with a bang in 2001, capturing the imaginations and nightmares of horror fans with its introduction of the Creeper, a demonic entity that awakens every 23 years to feast on human flesh. Directed by Victor Salva, the original film stood out for its eerie atmosphere, relentless suspense, and the enigmatic terror of the Creeper, portrayed by Jonathan Breck. It struck a chord with audiences, becoming a sleeper hit and grossing over $59 million worldwide. The sequel in 2003 continued to build on this mythology, focusing on a group of stranded teenagers and further cementing the Creeper as a formidable horror icon despite mixed reviews. However, the third installment in 2017 signaled a steep decline, with a disjointed narrative, lackluster special effects, and a failure to capture the franchise’s original suspense and terror. Despite these ups and downs, the franchise’s enduring legacy and dedicated fanbase prompted a reboot with...

It's more difficult than it may seem to make a successful horror comedy. For every ten Sharknados, there is one M3GAN. Fortunately, this year's Slotherhouse is a genuinely refreshing take on the horror comedy that balances being campy without winking too much at the audience. The movie is played fairly straight and only occasionally slips into self-parody. As any fan of trash cinema knows, schlock is at its best when it isn't plagued with irony, when it doesn't know how bad it is. There are exceptions, of course, but intentional camp is much harder to pull off than unintentional camp. Slotherhouse pulls off intentional camp with what can only be described as elegance. It doesn't show its hand until the first half of the movie is over, and you realize that the filmmakers are in on the joke.

Of late, Blumhouse has delivered some fascinating and incredibly entertaining slasher movies unlike pretty much anything in the subgenre before. Movies like Happy Death Day and Freaky quickly garnered much praise from critics and audiences, both lauding the creativity, performances, and energy of both movies. Now, keeping up Blumhouse's exceptional slasher movie streak is Prime Video's Totally Killer, a time travel slasher movie that takes audiences back to the '80s.
If you loved either Happy Day Death, The Belko Experiment, Get Out, or especially Freaky, which is written by the same person, then Totally Killer will certainly tickle that fun, nostalgic, and vibrant slasher movie itch. You know this film will be highly unserious if it’s titled with a pun. So, if you go in expecting nothing more than what it can offer, Slotherhouse delivers a delightful sense of campiness and a great message. Horror is a creative genre, and we get to see all sorts of things under the label. There’s a lot of fun to be had with this film, and the acting resembles any Hallmark or popular teen Netflix film. Also, Puppet Killer Sloth is quite adorable, and there is some self-aware dialogue that is very well-timed and funny. Emily is a sorority sister who is looking for meaning in her sorority life. She wants to stand for president of the house against popular girl Brianna. Emily is very concerned about her popularity and is trying really hard to make it big on social media. One would be forgiven for stepping into a film titled Slotherhouse with incredibly low expectations. The title and gimmick of the film – mass murdering sloth takes out an entire sorority – doesn’t exactly conjure visions of the masters, and frankly, the world of trash horror is so inundated with similarly themed no-budget junk, that I wouldn’t even blame a body for skipping it altogether. However, horror comedy fans with broad minds would do well not to look past this kitschy gem, Slotherhouse is not at all what you’re expecting, this killer really has claws. Emily (Lisa Ambalavanar) is a milquetoast sorority gal at Sigma Lambda Theta, an elite house with an even more elite sisterhood. Ruled over with an iron fist by chapter president...

Slotherhouse is a horror comedy that combines ridiculous comedy, nail-biting horror, and tension, following a sorority house's race to survive after bodies start piling up and the suspect is their beloved sloth mascot, Alpha. The movie taps into the campiness of films like M3GAN and Cocaine Bear while ramping up the absurdity by focusing on a supposedly slow and harmless sloth as the antagonist. Directed by Bradley Fowler and starring a talented cast, Slotherhouse offers a fun experience for fans of horror tropes and campy comedy, and will be available on video on demand starting September 19.

In order to gain political clout, she uses a sloth that she found to win the hearts of her sisters, just as the adorable animal won hers. What could possibly top the recent run of cocaine-fueled bears, sharks, and cougars? How about a cute, three-toed critter turning a sorority house into a Slotherhouse? Yes, the world’s slowest animal has turned homicidal and is carving up sorority girls like a seasoned slasher. Although, as the prologue that shows the critter getting bagged by poachers hints, this isn’t your typically chill furry tree hanger.
Emily wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become president of Sigma Lambda Theta, Slth for short. Unfortunately, she lacks the ruthlessness and social media presence of the current president Brianna. However, a chance meeting with Oliver, an exotic animal aficionado of dubious morality, changes everything. What better way to become the president...

What’s the scariest creature the world has ever known? If you said the sloth, you’re not alone. Some may find these furry bundles of lethargy charming, but a closer look reveals a devious predator lurking amidst the trees just waiting to attack us with those long, blood-soaked claws. Matthew Goodhue’s Slotherhouse pits this tree-hanging menace with another fearsome fiend: the ambitious sorority girl.
Animal lover Emily (Lisa Ambalavanar) has set her sights on the Presidential Suite of her lavish sorority house as she begins her senior year of college. Unfortunately, this means she’ll have to take down incumbent mean girl Brianna (Sydney Craven) and her team of frightened minions. Hoping to boost her social media cred, Emily adopts a three–toed sloth she names Alpha from a sketchy animal poacher and unwittingly unleashes a blood bath as the tiny assassin slices her way through the Sigma Lambda Theta sisters.

A film about a murderous sloth rampaging through a sorority house is smarter and funnier than one might expect
The magic of cinema is in its ability to take our world, in all its messy complexity, and reflect its core truth back to us. Cinema opens our eyes. It can teach us empathy, open our eyes to wider issues. It can change us. Or it can give us a film about a killer sloth with a samurai sword, which is honestly quite a lot better.
On paper, Slotherhouse has The Asylum written all over it. It has the potential to be a cheaply made, lowest common denominator Sharknadoalike; a great title and an outrageous premise that, in reality, amounts to a stunt-cast non-actor emoting in a single location for an hour to fill the gap between the three VFX shots you already saw in the trailer. There are some movies that are so absurd and bizarre, that we can't help but be intrigued by them. And a movie about a killer sloth is certainly one of them. Slotherhouse toys with many genres, and offers up a slasher/animal attack movie not to miss. It's utterly ridiculous. But what do you expect when you tune into a horror comedy movie with an agile, acrobatic, highly intelligent, and incredibly strong sloth, slaughtering an entire sorority house in the most hilarious ways possible? By the trailer and synopsis alone, you know exactly what to expect.
While Slotherhouse undoubtedly has a few issues, mainly some weird dialogue (which would be horrendously awkward elsewhere but actually kind of fits in this campy film), Slotherhouse is at the end of day one of the most entertaining flicks of 2023.
Throughout the past decade, we have seen some pretty outlandish and ridiculous animal attack movies.

The upcoming film Slotherhouse is capitalizing on the current trend of B-horror movies going big and finding success. There's a killer sloth on the loose in the new horror/comedy Slotherhouse, and here's the latest Slotherhouse news. With horror comedies like Cocaine Bear and Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey reaching mainstream attention, it was only a matter of time before other animal-themed B-horror movies found their way to the big screen. While audiences may be asking "Why?", Gravitas Ventures is asking "Why not?", as the latest slated production, Slotherhouse, combines two highly beloved horror staples: a killer animal and a sorority.

Cocaine Bear might have taken the pop culture world by storm earlier this year, but there's an even more thrilling killer animal movie coming soon in Slotherhouse. While Cocaine Bear might have gained immense attention, especially since it was based on a true story, the concept of killer animals as movie antagonists is nothing new. Jaws may have put the subgenre on the map, but killer animal movies have existed since the 1920s. In fact, Cocaine Bear wasn't even the first of its kind to follow a bear; that accolade went to 1976's Grizzly.
Though considered "animal horror," the subgenre is encompassed by a more extensive range of living creatures who traditionally target humans. Before Jaws, Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds served as one of the best mainstream killer animal movie releases. As the decades went on, there were movies centered on all types of natural horrors, including insects (Them!

One of the most intriguing aspects of The Meg is how it doesn't take itself too seriously. Many iconic shark movies since Jaws do -- well, apart from slapstick comedies like Sharknado. This franchise, though, nails the proper balance of action and comedy.

Many filmgoers probably figured they'd seen the wildest movie of the year to feature a killer animal when Cocaine Bear was released, but there's a new horror-comedy in town with a much more outlandish concept.
Set to release later this month via Gravitas Ventures, Slotherhouse is a new film that's just as it sounds. "In the jungle, she's a 'beta.' But out here, she's an 'alpha.'" Gravitas Ventures + Iconic Events have unveiled the first official trailer for Slotherhouse, the hilariously fun new slasher horror film featuring a killer sloth. Yes, seriously, it's real – and amazing. It's described as a "delightfully over-the-top and movie about a sloth that goes on a killing spree in a sorority..." In the spirit of M3GAN, Cocaine Bear, and the Chucky / Child's Play series, though I'd reckon it's more like Gremlins or Critters. Emily Young wants to be elected as her sorority's president. She adopts a cute sloth, thinking it can become the new mascot and help her win, until a string of fatalities implicate the sloth as the main suspect in the murders. It's time to meet Alpha the Killer Sloth. Starring Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Olivia Rouyre, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton, Sutter Nolan, and Grace Patterson.
