While the movie is less than six months away, little is known about Rebel Moon outside of the fact that Zack Snyder once pitched it to Lucasfilm as a Star Wars spin-off, but more details and other reveals are finally coming out.

Fans can now get a deeper look at Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon.

Via Vanity Fair, Snyder, known for 300 and his work with the DC Extended Universe, fleshed out his vision of the sci-fi epic with a new set of images. While many of them focus on the ensemble cast, Charlie Hunnam's character Kai gets a spotlight, showing off the disheveled pilot's gritty aesthetic. Together with protagonist Kora (Sofia Butella), he will lead the resistance against Mother Earth, a large organization that seeks to strip a small, defenseless planet of its precious resources. Djimon Hounsou (Shazam!) who narrated the teaser railer, plays the disillusioned warrior, General Titus, just one of the many warriors Kora and Kai try to enlist for the rebellion.

The movie will be one of the most ambitious Netflix films to date, with a $166 million budget split over two films.

Zack Snyder’s zombie movie Army of the Dead spawned the Netflix spinoff movie Army of Thieves in 2021, but what about an actual sequel? Last we heard, Planet of the Dead will be Snyder’s official sequel to Army of the Dead, and Snyder provides an update this week.

A few years ago, Zack Snyder started building the Army of the Dead franchise at the Netflix streaming service. His zombie movie Army of the Dead was quickly followed by a prequel called Army of Thieves. An animated series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was in the works, and Snyder himself was expected to direct the Army of the Dead sequel Planet of the Dead. He was developing the Planet of the Dead script with Shay Hatten, who co-wrote the first film with him… But we haven’t heard anything more about that project in a while, because Snyder has shifted his focus to building another franchise at Netflix. The sci-fi franchise Rebel Moon. Now, in an interview with The Nerd Queens (as reported by Collider), Snyder has confirmed that Planet of the Dead will have to wait until after they know exactly where the Rebel Moon franchise is going.

Writer and director Zack Snyder clarifies the status of Army of the Dead 2 after the project was first announced in 2021. Army of the Dead was released on Netflix in May of 2021, chronicling a doomed mission to recover an abundance of cash in a zombie-overrun version of Las Vegas. The movie quickly became one of the streamer's most-watched originals, and while a spinoff prequel called Army of Thieves arrived later that same year, Planet of the Dead, the planned sequel, has yet to come to fruition.

Now, in a recent interview with The Nerd Queens, Snyder offers an update on Army of the Dead 2, confirming that the project is still very much in the works. The director confirms that the main reason for the delay is actually his work on Rebel Moon, his upcoming Netflix space opera that may very well kickstart its own franchise universe. Rebel Moon star Corey Stoll has nothing but praise for filmmaker Zack Snyder, suggesting that he is an "actor’s director". Scheduled to be released by Netflix in December this year, the story behind Snyder’s Rebel Moon originally began as an idea for a Star Wars film that he once pitched to Lucasfilm. Once intended to be a single movie, Snyder’s expansive concept for the property inevitably led to it being split into two films.

Most recently Stoll, who also appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, spoke with Collider about his work on Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi epic. Suggesting that both the film’s cast and crew “would go to the ends of the earth for him”, he was full of praise for the director’s work ethic, enthusiasm, and approachability. This latest testimonial comes on the heels of similar comments made by Stoll’s fellow Rebel Moon co-star Cleopatra Coleman.

This year’s Super Bowl commercial from Netflix enlisted the help of Will Ferrell, the big game ad specifically promoting the streaming service’s partnership with General Motors.

Ferrell enters the worlds of popular Netflix shows in the Netflix/Gm Super Bowl commercial, including “Stranger Things,” “Squid Game,” and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Much like Easter 2009’s ‘Planet of the Dead’, the episode can’t rely on the star power of foes like the Daleks or Cybermen, and people are already looking past it in anticipation of upheaval and an upcoming regeneration later in the year.

After premiering on Netflix in May, Zack Snyder’s zombie heist movie “Army of the Dead” was quickly reanimated for the prequel treatment. Just five months later, “Army of Thieves,” which has perhaps the fastest turnaround ever for a follow-up film, expands the world by exploring the backstory of quirky safecracker Ludwig Dieter, played by actor and director Matthias Schweighöfer.

“Army of the Dead” smashed together the zombie, action and heist genres to huge success; Netflix reported a substantial 75 million member households watched the film in its first 28 days. Starring Schweighöfer, Dave Bautista, Ana de la Reguera, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro and more, the ensemble cast is hired by a mysterious billionaire named Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada) to break into a Las Vegas casino and rob a vault in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Unsurprisingly, many of the characters met their zombie-bitten doom by the time the credits rolled.

While his Warner Bros/DC Films Snyderverse may be dead, following the zombie action flick “Army of The Dead,” Zack Snyder seems to be developing a mutually beneficial working relationship with the streaming giant Netflix. Army of Thieves, the prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, has less to do with zombies than you might expect. Yes, there are a few undead creatures shambling around the claustrophobic hallways of Ludwig Dieter’s (Matthias Schweighöfer) nightmares and on European newscasts showing the horrific outbreak in Las Vegas, but the movie’s not really interested in what’s happening across the Atlantic.
