DreamWorks has earned quite a reputation for crafting quality stories that engage all ages. From Shrek to How to Train Your Dragon, the studio has many well-known franchises in its catalog. Kung Fu Pandais among the most recognizable, and DreamWorks has found no shortage of creative inspiration for sequels and spin-offs. Po's story might have started as an inspirational underdog looking to become a warrior, but it has since evolved as the threat of his enemies has grown and his roster of allies has strengthened. The Kung Fu Panda series is a fantastic way to introduce someone to DreamWorks for its narratives, moving character arcs, and gorgeous animation.
While the films in the Kung Fu Panda franchise are the main event, there is plenty of additional spin-off material to take into account. This guide will break down the order of each piece of Kung Fu Panda content while giving some...

Paramount+ is known for hosting some of the best TV shows on any streaming platform, and in January 2025, the lineup remains just as strong as ever. The first month of 2025 sees the arrival of the original Matlock TV series as it joins the new Kathy Bates reboot. This classic courtroom drama, starring Andy Griffith, includes all nine seasons. Sci-fi fans get a treat in January, as the new Star Trek series Section 31 premieres on January 24. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery.
The biggest news coming in December was that Paramount+ is removing several TV shows from its streaming service. This isn't anything new since both Paramount and Showtime removed several shows last year. The streaming service axed several Nickelodeon shows, including Doug, Blue's Room, Kung-Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Fanboy & Chum Chum, The Penguins of Madagascar, Big Time Rush, and Breadwinners (via Us Weekly). Paramount+’s latest purge of content is ruining childhoods, as a substantial number of Nickelodeon shows have or will soon be removed from the platform. While many have become used to discovering old titles such as Doug, Big Time Rush, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, and The Penguins of Madagascar on Paramount+, the decision to remove these and more titles has left many feeling like their ability to relive their childhoods in a nostalgic moment is being abruptly taken away.
Other affected shows include Breadwinners, Game Shakers, House of Anubis, Wonder Pets, Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks, Fanboy & Chum Chum, Sanjay & Craig, and Welcome to the Wayne, with the removals drawing a strong reaction from people who grew up with some of these programs. The streamer is doing a little housekeeping ahead of the new year, to the chagrin of kids and nostalgic adults.
Paramount has decided not to wait until spring to get a little spring cleaning done. Specifically, the company has undertaken a new round of content removals from its streamer Paramount+, and like previous culls this batch of pulled titles is heavily affecting kids and families. It’s all in the name of lowering backend streaming costs, but that’s of little comfort to customers who might be seeing their favorite titles removed.
Key Details: Arguably the most well-known title removed from Paramount+ is the 1990s cartoon “Doug.” Movies from the “Kung Fu Panda” and “Madagascar” franchise have also been pulled. Paramount+ could see more content removals as its parent company continues a merger with Skydance Media. 7-Day Free Trial $7.99+ / month paramountplus.com

A $549 million Kung Fu Panda movie has landed on Netflix's global chart. The animated martial arts franchise began in 2008 with the release of Kung Fu Panda, centering on the journey of Po Ping (voiced by Jack Black), a giant panda who is unexpectedly chosen as the foretold Dragon Warrior and trains to become a kung fu master. Po's journey is one of proving his worth and embracing his destiny, despite his initial self-doubt and the skepticism of others. The franchise is set in a wuxia-inspired fantasy version of ancient China filled with anthropomorphic animals.
The Kung Fu Panda franchise consists mainly of four animated films Kung Fu Panda (2008), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016), and Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024). All four films have achieved critical and commercial success, collectively earning over $2 billion and ranking as the seventh highest-grossing animated film franchise. John Stevenson and Mike Osborne's 2008 film "Kung Fu Panda," on its most basic level, serves as a spoof of a certain type of martial arts film made in Hong Kong in the 1970s. Many of the tropes of martial arts cinema infiltrated American cinemas in the 1990s and 2000s thanks to the stateside releases of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies, the success of the wuxia film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and the constant bolstering of the genre by mega-fan Quentin Tarantino.
By 2008, so many American filmmakers had borrowed from Hong King cinema (including Tarantino himself with his "Kill Bill" movies), that even small children could recreate their tropes and clichés on the playground. Every kid could spot the characters: ancient wizened masters, a team of martial arts monks, and a feisty young comedic hotshot who seems ill-equipped for the asceticism of kung fu, but ultimately proves to be a champion.

Po has faced powerful villains in Kung Fu Panda, showcasing a mix of comedy and drama that continues in spinoff series. The franchise started strong in 2008, leading to sequels and TV spinoffs with their own memorable foes to challenge Po. From Tai Lung's raw power to Alfie's redemption, the Kung Fu Panda villains bring classic kung-fu movie strength to the series.
Po has faced off against several villains throughout the Kung Fu Panda franchise, with a select few standing out as the most dangerously powerful. The DreamWorks movies are an excellent combination of children's comedy and classic kung-fu drama, and this has continued to the various spinoff series as well. Kung Fu Panda came ready with a plethora of heroes to support Po the Panda, each with their own unique skills and quirks. Still, there would be no story if it wasn't for the formidable villains they've had to go up against.

The latest installment of the Kung Fu Panda has officially become a financial success. Despite the film’s mixed reactions from longtime fans of the franchise, Kung Fu Panda 4 has already earned $275 Million worldwide on an $85 Million budget.
The film series’ success is arguably attributed to the fantastic performance of the series lead, Jack Black, who plays the titular kung fu master Po the Panda. His performance brings the character to life, and it is hard to imagine anyone else taking on the role.
Unfortunately, we may have to say farewell to the iconic actor as in a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he was asked about the franchise’s future. He stated:

While the Kung Fu Panda series has been noticeably offscreen for the better part of a decade, it’s survived and thrived via three, small-screen series, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, The Paws of Destiny, and The Dragon Knight, each, in turn, meant to keep the giant, kung fu-fighting panda and his anthropomorphic allies in the hearts and minds of old and new fans alike. Where disinterest inevitably started to set in box office-wise, it was — and remains — a relatively smart, low-cost studio move, waiting for the right moment to resurrect a moribund franchise and return it to the now nostalgic fans. Whether nostalgia alone or more likely, a family night out, wins the day at the box office, remains to be seen,...

Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network are responsible for many popular animated shows that appeal to young demographics. Shows like Phineas and Ferb, Spongebob Squarepants, and Adventure Time had a significant impact and became spectacular hits for younger audiences.
However, there are a good number of acclaimed animated shows from these networks that don't receive the same recognition. These shows either had serious competition or viewers weren't ready for something new. These animated shows are criminally underrated, from movie-based series like Tron: Uprising to brilliantly written cartoons like The Looney Tunes Show.

To some movie industry forecasters, CGI neon trolls that love to hug and sing are also, quite possibly, harbingers of the end of the modern theater experience. Trolls: World Tour was supposed to be a simple sequel to the 2013 DreamWorks original, based on the toy line popularized in the early 1960s. The movie follows the continuing adventures of Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake), two trolls from the Pop music tribe who discover that there are other troll races — Funk, Classical, Techno, Country, and Rock — living in their world.

Kung Fu Panda 3 enters a marketplace where the largest January opening for an animated feature is currently 2014's The Nut Job with $19.4 million. You can count on Po the Panda squashing that number with ease. Additional new releases looking to find a place on the chart this weekend include the 1950s-set disaster thriller The Finest Hours, the R-rated spoof feature Fifty Shades of Black and Jane Got a Gun. Question is, while Po and the Furious Five are taking the top spot will these other new releases be able to top last weekend's top two films? Last weekend's box office took a hit thanks to the East Coast snowstorm and films such as The Revenant and Star Wars may be looking to make up some ground. Starting with number one, and working in the favor of Kung Fu Panda 3 is the fact the last really strong animated release was...

Spin-offs are the new sequels. Case in point, instead of continuing his overarching story with a How to Train Your Dragon 4 after the series' third installment, Collider reports director Dean DeBlois is keener on spinning off the How to Train Your Dragon franchise to include other tales. DeBlois gave no indication what those tales might, er, entail, but let's step back for a moment and examine the trend Hollywood is forging here. In an effort to expand the worlds created within their most popular blockbusters, studios aren't simply using the same characters to tell new stories, they are producing films and television shows to broaden those worlds' scopes and increase the amount of the stories that can be told within them. Aside from storytelling, and more importantly I'd argue, this is done to benefit the bottom line, because Hollywood is a business, first and foremost. Just look at Marvel's Cinematic Universe,...

Following yesterday's first look photos, the first official trailer and poster for the animated film The Book of Life from producer Guillermo del Toro have arrived. The story follows the journey of Manolo (Diego Luna), an aspiring musician struggling with pleasing his family and winning over the love of his life (Zoe Saldana). Gutierrez's The Book of Life, originally from Apple: And here's the first poster for the animated film from Collider: The Book of Life is directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, who co-wrote the film...

But the settings look gorgeous, and again, it sounds like a truly original tale. Images below! Here's the first photos from Jorge R. Gutierrez's The Book of Life from USA Today: The Book of Life is directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, who co-wrote the film with Douglas Langdale...
