Based on the harrowing real-life experiences of Maxwell Smart, The Boy in the Woods recounts twelve-year-old Max’s battle for survival during World War II. Set in 1942, the film finds Max living in occupied Poland when he becomes separated from his mother and sister. Facing imminent capture by Nazi forces, Max manages to escape into the dense forests near his hometown.
It is in these formidable woods that Max begins a solitary fight to evade the ruthless occupiers. Directed by Rebecca Snow in her narrative debut, the movie paints a vivid yet respectful picture of Max’s grueling journey. Drawing from Maxwell Smart’s own memoir, Snow crafts a deeply moving tale of courage against all odds. Through Max’s ordeal, we witness both the tragic realities of life under Nazi rule as well as the enduring strength of the human spirit.
Snow guides viewers through the film with a blend of empathy and care.

This might just be a coincidence, but lately there’s been an influx of films and shows centering around the Holocaust. Be it the Anthony Hopkins starrer One Life (2023) or Peacock’s Harvey Keitel-led drama The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2023), Apple TV’s million-dollar epic Masters of the Air (2023), or Jonathan Glazer’s stunningly impactful The Zone of Interest (2023), there have been a lot of holocaust stories. Now I’m not going to go into whether this is a good or bad thing, but I do believe it’s really hard to top The Zone of Interest, considering the kind of astonishingly original thing the movie managed to pull off when it comes to Holocaust storytelling. That said, Rebecca Snow’s The Boy in the Woods, the most recent Holocaust movie to fall on us, does work. The Usp of it has to be it being a story that is...

Reporting to Ralph Lee, the CEO of BBC Studios Productions, he will join the company amid continued growth in podcasting.
BBC Studios said the move comes as it looks to grow its audio unit “to take advantage of new creative opportunities in the U.K. and globally.” As part of that, it confirmed on Tuesday a previously outlined plan to move selected factual, entertainment and drama audio content from the BBC’s in-house production team to BBC Studios as of April.
“The model was developed to ensure the BBC maximizes the opportunities opened up by the growing global market for podcasts, strengthening the BBC’s public service output and keeping talented people at the BBC,” it said. “It places programs...
