After winning the Golden Globe for best non-English language film, fellow actor Peter Lanzani revealed that Ricardo Darín used his "lucky charm" for awards ceremonies and told the cast and crew to think, "Don't worry, we're not going to win, we have no chance, we're losers, be calm, we won't have to make a speech, we won't win."
The film was shot in the exact courtroom in Buenos Aires' Justice Palace where the actual Trial of the Juntas took place in 1985. It's no longer used as a courtroom but still used for political events, so the filmmakers received permission from the Ministry of Justice, who considered the film important for the country, to film there at night, when people weren't working in the building.
This is the eighth Argentine film to be nominated for an Academy Award® for Best International Feature Film, and the fourth in a row with Ricardo Darín as a leading actor after Le fils de la mariée (2001), Dans ses yeux (2009) and Les Nouveaux Sauvages (2014).
Second pairing of writer-director Santiago Mitre and actor Ricardo Darín after El presidente (2017).
Official submission of Argentina for the 'Best International Feature Film' category of the 95th Academy Awards® in 2023.
