Saba and No ID are two legends of Chicago hip-hop, from two different generations. Saba is the cerebral rap poet who made his name with corrosively pained classics like 2018’s Care for Me and 2022’s Few Good Things. No ID, the “Godfather of Chicago Hip-Hop,” has spent his life making the beats that Saba grew up on. But they join forces to reach the higher ground on their long-awaited collaboration album, From the Private Collection of Saba and No ID. It’s rare to hear an indie rapper who...

Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson will reprise their roles from Canadian procedural Private Eyes in a spinoff series, four years after the original came to an end.
Private Eyes West Coast will see private investigators Matt Shade (Priestley) and Angie Everett (Sampson) solving cases in Victoria, British Columbia. Now leading different lives from their Toronto crime-fighting days, they encounter a world of different cases along with a new group of friends.
Further detail on casting, start of production and storyline will be announced “at a later date.” Fair to say the series will almost certainly retain the comedy-drama tone of the original show.
Lionsgate Canada and Piller/Segan are making it for Corus Entertainment network Global, reuniting the trio four year after the end of Private Eyes, which ran from 2016-2021. Lionsgate Television will handle international sales on West Coast, with the original having been a solid seller for the studio.

Shondaland, the company behind hits such as Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton and upcoming murder mystery The Residence, is turning 20 this year.
Shonda Rhimes and her production partner Betsy Beers have been responsible for hundreds of hours of scripted television in that time.
At a Deadline-moderated panel session at NATPE in Miami, Beers talked about the past, present and future of Shondaland as it readies its latest show – The Residence starring Uzo Aduba. She also talked about the fourth season of Bridgerton, the future of Grey’s Anatomy and hopes to expand the company’s non-fiction slate.
Beers, who is being feted at NATPE as a “Shift Disturber” didn’t give too much away about season four of its steamy rom-com, which recently started production. “It’s about Benedict Bridgerton,” she joked when asked to tease the upcoming season, which will focus on Luke Thompson’s character and his love interest Sophie Baek,...

War movies are generally a contradiction. The renowned French filmmaker Francois Truffaut once argued that "There is no such thing as an anti-war movie." The reason for that was simple: Every anti-war movie generally predicts war as unbelievably epic. There are explosions, heroic fight scenes, and gunfire that resounds and terrifies. Even the greatest brutality plays out brilliantly on-screen.
Some movies, however, counter Truffaut's argument. They feature underlying emotional messages that reveal the true horror of war while featuring grotesque scenes that should stop anyone in their tracks. Each of these truly anti-war war movies should only ever be seen once.

Sony and MGM’s upcoming Spider-Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage, will be the first TV show in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu), and fans are already excited. Cage returns as Spider-Man Noir, bringing his popular role from the animated Spider-Verse movies to life in live-action. Fans are looking forward to seeing his take on the gritty, 1930s-inspired hero.
The series will have eight episodes and is set to stream on MGM+ in late 2025 or early 2026. Filming will finish by early 2025. The story will follow an “aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator” in 1930s New York City, dealing with his past as the city’s only superhero—a fresh take on the noir-style Spider-Man.

Over the past two decades, dozens of characters have come and gone on Grey’s Anatomy.
I’ve loved tons of them; I’ve hated a few of them, too.
But one main character has been criminally underdeveloped, underused, and misunderstood for years, and it’s time we talked about it.
(Disney/Anne Marie Fox) Amelia Frances Shepherd, M.D., F.A.C.S.
The thing about Amelia is that she’s something of a polarizing character, and I think that largely stems from the fact that Grey’s Anatomy has done nothing to honor her backstory.
I’ve talked with those Grey’s fans who dislike Amelia, and the consensus seems to be that she’s boring, noncommittal, and underdeveloped.
But those who have also seen Grey’s Anatomy’s first spinoff series, Private Practice, know that Amelia has a whole history that the flagship show has all but brushed under the rug.

Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers are two of the most evocative, accurate, and harrowing depictions of the D-Day landings ever committed to screen, but deciding which depicted the incident "better" is far from straightforward. The two Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg projects are widely regarded as some of the most effective Second World War dramas ever made. Although they both utilize different formats and distinct narrative approaches, they share a commitment to realism and authenticity that sets them apart from many more sensationalist versions of the story.
Released in 1998, Saving Private Ryan arguably reset the standard for Second World War movies. While the central story of a small detachment sent on a mission to rescue the last surviving brother of a family serving in France allows for an insightful look at the Battle of Normandy, the movie is rightly remembered for its breathtaking opening D-Day scene. Fox's crime drama Prison Break ran for five original seasons in the mid to late 2000s and starred several actors with successful TV careers. Seeing the success of serialized shows like Lost and 24, the network had faith in the success of Prison Break. The series is set in prison and stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller as imprisoned brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield. The former is accused of murder and sentenced to death, while the latter gets himself put in prison so he can break his brother out, believing he is innocent.
The thrills and originality established in Prison Break season 1 earned widespread acclaim. Though later seasons of Prison Break would struggle to return to a similar status, the series still had a strong fan base. The response from audiences prompted both a TV film based on the series' characters and a revival season in 2017. Many of Prison Break...

Seargeoh Stallone, Sylvester's son, is one of the lesser-known members of the Stallone family. Sylvester Stallone was one of the biggest movie stars of the '70s and '80s. Even when he moved out of the peak stardom of his earlier career, Stallone remained in the Hollywood spotlight thanks to some key cameos, smaller roles in major franchises, and the occasional return to the lead in films like Creed and The Expendables.
With his burly physique, unique voice, and ability to play sensitive and strong, Stallone is one of those directors and actors with a high approval rating from everyone. Stallone has had several high-profile relationships, including three marriages. Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan is a critically acclaimed masterpiece. It has been collectively agreed that the film is one of the best works of his career, being excellent in every way, shape, or form. The cast of the film was spectacular, giving the performances of their lives. On top of this, the direction, storytelling, and cinematography of the movie helped it gain the many Oscars that it did.

Steven Spielberg created one hell of a revenge movie in 2005’s Munich, which was based on George Jonas’ book Vengeance. The film (and the book) was a fictionalized version of the real-life assassinations that followed the killing of Israeli athletes in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was one of Spielberg’s most controversial films as Mossad condemned the portrayal of their assassins in the film.

Grey's Anatomy spinoff Station 19 will end after season 7, impacting the fates of key crossover characters like Ben Warren. Ben, introduced in Grey's Anatomy season 6, could retire or face a tragic end in the final season of Station 19. The intertwined stories of Ben and Bailey, a beloved Grey's Anatomy couple, will have a lasting impact on both shows.
After 7 seasons, Station 19 will air its final episode on May 16, 2024, leaving many viewers of the Grey's Anatomy spinoff to wonder about the ultimate fates of several key crossover characters. Created by Stacy McKee, the action-drama premiered in 2018, becoming the second Grey's Anatomy spinoff to hit the small screen. Instead of centering on Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, the show focuses on the lives of those who work at Seattle Fire Station 19. While Andrea "Andy" Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) led Station 19's first outing, the spinoff immediately incorporated existing Grey's Anatomy characters into its story.

There was a time before “It’s not TV, It’s HBO”. A time when HBO was a synonym for boxing matches, sports, and films with a lot of female nudity. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, the Home Box Office network was looking to boost its subscription numbers and did so by looking to entail the male audience with sports, violence, and sex.
Those erotic films showed the channel that there was a line to separate themselves from the other cable channels by doing their own scripted TV series. Where to begin? From the start of Hollywood, book adaptations have been one of their primary ways to make movies, as back then, books were the primordial IP, and literary detective adaptations have never stopped working. That’s why, in 1983, HBO started producing its own dramas, and their first try was with a literary detective.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and our hearts are aflutter thinking about the most romantic couplings on our favorite shows.
More specifically, we're reminiscing about some of TV's greatest LGBTQ+ relationships. These couples don't just give us butterflies -- they also provide much-needed representation to a group that doesn't get to see themselves in characters very often.
These couples, fictional though they may be, are the definition of relationship goals.
As any TV fan knows, a good on-screen relationship needs several factors to work. The actors have to have chemistry, the characters have to have chemistry, and their relationship has to make sense in the context of the plot.
Sometimes, especially with LGBTQ+ pairings, it can feel like the writers just throw people together for the sake of a subplot, but those couples don't tend to resonate with audiences.
One example of this is Alex and Piper from Orange is the New Black.

Howard Stern has been one of the most controversial – and revered – figures in the history of modern media. With a passion for the field as a child, Stern’s climb to the top of the radio world truly began in the ‘80s. And he did it off of his unique, button-pressing, FCC-clashing brand and humor: the boobs, the prank calls, the Wack Pack, all of it all made Howard Stern one of the most recognizable figures in all of media. And so as his markets grew and his written word topped the charts – but long before his first $500 million contract with Sirius – it was time for Stern to enter the movie business…with something a little more commercially viable than Butt Bongo Fiesta.

Milly Alcock's role as Supergirl in the Dcu could break the trend of Game of Thrones actors starring in superhero flops. Alcock's experience as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon shows she can portray a powerful character like Supergirl. The off-the-wall premise of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and James Gunn's involvement bring excitement to the Dcu and may end the Game of Thrones curse.
Milly Alcock from the Game of Thrones franchise has been cast in the Dcu as the eponymous star of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and her arrival could break a frustrating trend. Alcock is the latest actor confirmed to be starring in the Dcu, and joins David Corenswet as one of its most prominent figures with reports suggesting she may even appear alongside the Superman actor in Superman: Legacy. As lesser-known actors, the roles could be career-defining depending on how successful the Dcu becomes.

The action scenes in war movies are essential for satisfying audiences and can make or break the overall experience, regardless of the accuracy of the story. Saving Private Ryan stands out for its highly realistic action sequences, especially the jarring and gory depiction of the D-Day invasion on the beaches of Normandy. Other movies like Zero Dark Thirty, All Quiet on the Western Front, Hacksaw Ridge, and Lone Survivor also excel in crafting highly realistic and accurate action scenes that capture the harsh reality of war.
Not every war movie has realistic action scenes, some movies in the genre stand out for doing an excellent job of crafting highly realistic action sequences. War movies vary in terms of their commitment to creating the most realistic portrayal of war possible, and some movies that tell highly fictionalized stories can still have realistic action scenes. The reverse is also true, with many...

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.
Movies include “Casper,” “Scarface” and the first two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films. New arrivals worth the wait include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” starring Zendaya and Timotheé Chalamet among other heavy hitters, “Fair Play” with Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich and David Yates’ “Pain Hustlers” starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. Mike Flanagan’s “Fall of the House of Usher” is sure to...

Grey's Anatomy is known for killing off beloved characters, and an episode in season 19 made the fate of Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) uncertain. Addison is a fan-favorite character, though she did not always start out that way. When Addison is first introduced in Grey's Anatomy season 1, episode 9 "Who's Zoomin' Who?", she is positioned as a villain who gets in the way of the relationship between Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). But Addison eventually shows layers and complexity and became such a popular character that she even left Grey's Anatomy to star in her own spinoff, Private Practice, which lasted for six seasons.
A renowned neonatal surgeon, Addison Montgomery is one of the most skilled doctors on Grey's Anatomy. Addison has a strong moral code and will break protocol if she feels it is best for her patients. She is also passionate about women's rights, and in...

Matt Damon may have been the perfect casting choice for playing the titular character in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, but he did not align too well with the director's initial casting plans for the war movie, especially after his Good Will Hunting fame. Often touted as the best war movie of all time, Saving Private Ryan was immensely successful, both critically and commercially, after its release in 1998. Owing to Steven Spielberg's directorial forte, Saving Private Ryan even won many accolades, including at the Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Academy Awards.
While Saving Private Ryan's realistic depiction of war and poignant storyline contributed to its success, its acclaim can also be attributed to the strength of its cast. Before the war movie's filming, Steven Spielberg put a lot of effort and thought into its casting process. From Mel Gibson to Edward Norton, he considered a myriad of actors for...

Italian producer Luciano Sovena, who was instrumental to bringing early works by several of Italy’s now-prominent auteurs such as Alice Rohrwacher, Luciano Frammartino, and Saverio Costanzo, to the big screen, has died. He was 73.

"The Vampire Diaries"
Based on the best-selling book series, "The Vampire Diaries" is the story of two vampire brothers, obsessed with the same gorgeous girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town. In Season One, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons. Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved — in 1864. Damon, on the other hand, was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago.

And we have clips! We tip our fedoras to The CW, the network with the highest our-kind-of-primetime-show count, second only to Syfy. Well done, The CW! And though they canceled one of our shows – sorry, The Secret Circle fans – they’ve brought in two more: The Arrow and Beauty and the Beast.
These new shows surround or maybe even caused a shift in scheduling for fall 2012. Supernatural fans especially, take note. The CW would like to take over our TVs on Wednesday, with DC Comics-based we’ve-been-waiting-so-long-for-this Arrow at 8/7c, followed by Supernatural at 9/8c. What a great pairing! And Not on a Friday, hooray! The CW, you are now granted our TVs on Wednesday nights.
Thursday nights will bring a return of the beloved The Vampire Diaries at 8/7c, paired with newbie Beauty and the Beast at 9/8c. Yes, yes, this also works for us, thank you! The...

And about time, too! We had a pretty good indication that Supernatural would be renewed for an eighth(!) season when they announced last month that new showrunner Jeremy Carver would be taking over those duties from Sera Gamble, who has chosen to concentrate on other projects. Still, we kept waiting, and waiting…
Similarly, The Vampire Diaries has consistently scored well in the ratings for The CW, so again we were fairly confident, but still we were waiting to hear confirmation of a fourth season. Today is the day!
According to TVLine, the confirmation is an especially a good thing as Supernatural is set to end the current season with a giant cliffhanger. Which should also come as no surprise. And we have hope that something else good may come with that renewal, as Misha Collins has reportedly advised that he’d love to come back next season… Yes Please.
