Some cool builds and good welders. The assignments were interesting and brought out unique design ideas from the welders. Where this show lacked was in the host and judges. The host had no idea about welding, and didn't make good jokes. The judges were stiff and didn't interact well with the contestants or each other.

The show is fun. The art is awesome. The co hosts are great. But the main host knows next to nothing about metal working and could not be more annoying to watch. They really should have gotten a host that has some sort of knowledge or at least interest in metal working.

I want to love this show. I like the glassblowing and blacksmith shows, so welding is right up my alley. But just in the first episode, I have a lot of issues with it.
The first challenge should have followed the same formula as Forged In Fire: the first challenge should be an equal playing field. Give them the same equipment, the same starting materials, same equipment, and requirements that are actually clear. Letting people do their own work with their own material at their own workshops is not a fair first challenge. Once the competitors show they have the creativity and the fitness to continue on, then give them the freedom to be creative. In the second round, again, sculptures were judged unfairly because the requirements weren't clear.
I'll have to watch more episodes to make a final judgment, but for now, though I love the concept, I'm frustrated with the execution. There are a lot of improvements to be made.

This is a pretty decent reality show, with extremely talented people. Jo koy as a host is terrible, but the judges are the worst, makes watching the show a hard experience of its own. If Netflix plans a second season replace the judges and the host, will make the show more interesting and a lot more entertaining.

I'm only half way through the first episode and had to see if my initial opinion was matching others. Sure enough; Excited for this concept, but the criteria and critiques need serious review before making a second season.
Judges don't seem to respect the competitors or eachother. Their comments are often insulting and petty. These are BOTH amazing artists and fabricators and at one point they express who's an artist and who's a 'real' fabricator.
One of the men had a prefabricated piece at home that showed up on site but wasn't called out for it. I can be petty too... are chains and motors not prefabricated?
Producers see these home videos and can't send out a memo to all the competitors? The forced 'drama' isn't needed, because the working with the metal is interesting enough!
At one time the welding sparks causes comments and seconds later the overview of the shop shows several competitors AND the crews without safety jackets. Seems like they're picking on certain people more than others.
I'm ok with the Host not knowing a lot about what's happening. That allows him to ask questions that viewers want to know too.
Maybe the judging should be blind?
Maybe get different judges?
Maybe technical 'discussion' during the challege isn't done by the judges?
I'll watch a second season if these kinds of edits we're all suggesting can be made.

It is very fun watching the metal artist make stuff in very creative ways.
It sucks to watch the two judges walk around constantly belittling creative people.

The contestants were good (some exceptions but those were still ok) however the challenges are stupid (rules unclear, ideas like you gotta have a horseshoe on there) and the judges clearly have almost no or no experience as welders or anything related.
Idk who signed off on those judges but whoever did apparently wasnt aware that most people watching this watch it because they have a hobby or job in this field and therefore know their stuff.
Get ones that have experience in metalworking and optionally acting/hosting not the other way around... u know like mythbusters ...just as hosts ...and let them geek out a bit.... go into details... play to your audience
maybe give failed mythbuster allen pan a call.
Just please if ur gonna have a second season change the judges.

This is a great show with talented and creative contestants; unfortunately, the host is terrible and the judges are no better. It is such a shame.... Please if there is another season, please have better judges and a totally different host!

This could have been so great , I wanted it to be so great but no. Me and my friend were super excited to see this and it's so disappointing. You have these judges that don't give these people creative liberty or at least don't like when people are creative. There super specific for giving them 10 hours . They have a lot of unqualified help and the judges are awful like honestly so snobby that it's annoying. A lot of people I feel like got disqualified for weird reasons. The cast was amazing they did so good but I feel like they were very under appreciate for the amount of work they did in that time uiu. They were just way to harsh on these people for what they gave them to work with. They also were super unclear about a lot of stuff and I feel like that was the result of people going home. Just weird energy so awkward a lot of the time. Music editing everything felt very half assed. A good watch just to see the amazing art work but judges sank this show.

I don't care about the swearing and the fact they had more female contestants than is proportional to the trade but I draw the line at the judges / host. They clearly weren't the most qualified to be on the show. Their original commentaries often missed the mark and their scripted comments reflected the worst of what reality tv has to offer.
Bring back Ivan, Tom and Rae to judge. They each bring a unique perspective the show would benefit from in the future. And perhaps they'll do a better job explaining the challenges than that of predecessors past.

How can you give a vague request of what to build and then criticize how or what it looks like, they add rules as the build goes on and or try to define what was meant in the rules!! The creativity of the people on there is great but the Judges and how they define base rules is just dumb, also the judges are not qualified or are failing in the aspect of accepting the views of the "Welders"

The judges seem to act on their first impressions. The female judge in particular seems the judge based on what she would do.
The artificial deadline is ridiculous. Quality artistic fabrication can't be done in 10 hrs. The contestants are forced to produce "junk" rather then allowed to create. They are judging how "fast" someone can create art. Flawed concept from the start.

The amount of creativity in this show is very impressive, doesn't matter if you are into welding or not, watching this show will shock you in many ways when you see how people think outside of the box and go out of their way and challenge themselves to come up with beautiful mesmerising sculptures and pieces of art!

The "Judges" added nothing to the show. I understand they were trying to add drama, because drama makes good television (I guess?) But I think that for an art show, it would have made more sense to not have a gameshow format at all.
If they did something more like The Repair Shop, where every artisan has their time to shine and things are generally really happy and everyone's talents are appreciated, that would have just been a much nicer show.
Sometimes, adding constraints makes artists think in a different way and ends up pushing art to the next level. But in this case, the 10 hour time limits and sometimes bizarre rules were absolutely too limiting.
Contestants were awesome. I enjoyed the show despite the constant bullying from the judges. It was an easy watch & some nice art pieces were made.

The host and judges don't quite fit, they feel fake and force drama, but the challenges and contestants were pretty rad. I hope they work it out and give it another season a shot!

I feel so strongly about this that after years of using IMDB I finally made an account so I can leave a review. This show has so much potential. I enjoy construction shows where the contestants are good to each other. I don't want personality drama. The concept is sound, I even learned some things while watching. However...
The judges need to go. Telling them things like "I want to see spikes" is not a good way to set up. "I want to see their skills and how they make texture" which was only said to the host is what should have been said to the contestants. Too often they judge on what they would have done for a sculpt, not the merits of what the contestants made. Comments like "I don't get it" when told to make something abstract, etc.
Find judges that are more used to critique based on the rubric for the art.
It's also such a cliche and horrible thing to make the final based on a team build. Let the person win or lose on their own merit in the end.
Finally Roy is a funny guy, I've enjoyed his stand up, but something about this show did not work. Either they needed to let him write his own lines, or he needed more knowledge of fabrication? Rework some details, come back with a revision. Maybe analyze what the clear inspiration for the show was (cough) forged in fire and copy it directly if you have to.

I'm a welder. They choose to do in 10 hrs of time was impossible to make something truly great. They had to settle with the best they could do in that short amount of time. I didn't think that was fair. So I gave the welders a 9, but the show -1.
Amazing skills on show from the contestants, host and judges are annoying.
Replace the host/judges and the second season will be so much better!
