Clancy Collins White, who has been with the studio for more than 20 years, is adding to her portfolio after she was promoted to President, Creative Affairs. Collins White, who was previously EVP, Creative Affairs, will now oversee casting and research at the studio.

The company has also promoted casting chief Mele Nagler.

It is a new role for both Collins White and Warner Bros. TV. She will continue to oversee scripted program development — including dramas, comedies and limited series – but will now oversee casting, led by Nagler, and Audience & Content Research and Insights, headed by Jeanne Cotton. Adrienne Turner will continue to lead comedy development and Parul Agrawal will continue to run drama development, both reporting to Collins White.

Current programming, led by Vicki Dummer, will be overseen by Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Television Group and Wbd US Networks.

Warner Bros. Television has upped Clancy Collins White to the newly established position of president of Creative Affairs. In this role, Collins White will oversee the studio’s TV production unit for live-action scripted programming, which will include dramas, comedies and limited series, and will add oversight when it comes to casting and research.

Collins White will report directly to Channing Dungey, the newly appointed chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and Warner Bros. Discovery U.S. Networks. While Collins White will oversee the creative side of the studio, Brett Paul will continue to oversee the business side. Paul was named president of Warner Bros. Television Group as well as COO of U.S. Networks in December of last year. In this role, he is also responsible for oversight of WB’s unscripted television as well as its TV animation studios.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the three acclaimed stars will star in The Whisper Man, a Netflix crime thriller from director James Ashcroft, best known for the thriller Coming Home in the Dark. The Russo brothers serve as producers on the film alongside Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco. The Whisper Man will reportedly begin filming this spring. There is no official release date yet for the film.

Two actors from TV’s buzziest shows hope to make some noise with a Netflix movie.

Michelle Monaghan, one of the stars of this season’s White Lotus, and Severance headliner Adam Scott have joined Robert De Niro in The Whisper Man, a crime thriller from Netflix.

James Ashcroft, who directed the haunting Kiwi thriller Coming Home in the Dark, is helming the feature, which is being produced by Agbo, the banner behind Netflix’s tentpole sci-fi movie, The Electric State.

Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco are producing for Agbo.

The story, based on the New York Times best-seller by Alex North, is set in motion when an eight-year old boy is abducted. The father, a widowed crime writer, looks to his own estranged father, a retired former police detective, for help, only to discover a connection with the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.

Another Carl Hiaasen novel is being developed as a TV series with Bill Lawrence onboard.

Variety has learned exclusively that a series version of Hiaasen’s novel “Skinny Dip” is currently in development at Max with Adam Horowitz & Edward Kitsis set to write and Lawrence attached as an executive producer.

The logline for the one-hour dramedy series describes it as “a screwball-romantic-comedy-triangle about murder, revenge, and greed in the Everglades.”

Lawrence, a longtime fan of Hiaasen, is currently the creator and showrunner on the series adaptation of “Bad Monkey” at Apple TV+. That show debuted at Apple in August 2024 and was renewed for a second season in December.

Horowitz and Kitsis will write and executive produce “Skinny Dip.” Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer will executive produce via Doozer. Warner Bros. Television, where Doozer is under an overall deal, is the studio.

Apple TV+’s upcoming comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson has added Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi to the cast.

McConaughey and Harrelson, who are close friends in real life, play versions of themselves in the 10-episode series. The official logline describes the series as “a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful bond” which is “tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.”

Martinez will play Matthew’s wife, Valentina, while Ishibashi plays Woody’s wife, Joy. They join previously announced cast member Holland Taylor, who plays Mac, Matthew’s mother.

The 10-episode half-hour comedy reunites Harrelson and McConaughey, who play heightened versions of themselves in a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful sibling-like bond. Plans are coming together for the much-anticipatedScrubsreboot as series creator, Bill Lawrence, has shared a massive progress update on the current status of production. The reboot was announced late last year with Lawrence promising to begin writing sometime this year, and it's exciting to see the project being prioritized. The brilliant writer behind recently successful shows such as Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Bad Monkey has revealed that a writer's room for the Scrubs reboot is now in development, promising that fans can expect to revisit Sacred Heart Hospital very soon.

Prolific comedy writer Bill Lawrence gave an update on where his reboot of “Scrubs” is in the development stage while speaking with Variety on the Writers Guild Awards red carpet Saturday in New York.

“Well first thing is, on an interview, asking my wife if she’ll do the show whenever she has time,” Lawrence said while standing next to his wife, “Scrubs” alum Christa Miller.

Lucky for Lawrence, Miller replied: “Of course.”

With that cleared up, the “Scrubs” creator went on to say: “We’re in the process of, the cool thing, putting the writers together. And it’s the best thing in the world to see that some of the most talented writers in the world wrote on that show and they’re all still friends, and my friends. And so [we] have a combination of the old and new. We’re just starting to build it right now.

“The best thing about Hollywood, other than, obviously, award shows, is that all of us got in the door because someone believed in us,” said Bill Lawrence, accepting the WGA East Herb Sergeant Award in New York tonight, urging the assembled to “go out and find a young person to believe in.”

“Give an hour of your time to someone every month. In the worst case, you get to talk about yourself for an hour,” said the creator of Scrubs, which has a reboot in development, and Apple TV+ hit Ted Lasso, eyeing a fourth season. His long list of credits also includes Apple’s Shrinking and Bad Monkey, Spin City and Cougar Town. He was, however, quite serious, devoting his acceptance speech to helping the next generation of writers, especially in a new landscape of small writing staffs, and young writers jumping from show to show. It’s never been harder.

The Vampire Diaries alum is set to executive-produce a new vampire comedy for Fox, our sister site Deadline reports. The untitled comedy, which is currently in development, centers on a 25-year-old vampire who dreams of becoming an actor while “running the family business for his murderous and suffocating vampire parents,” per the official synopsis.

Exclusive: Paul Wesley, an actor who played a vampire on The Vampire Diaries, is executive producing a series project about a vampire who wants to be an actor. The untitled comedy, which landed at Fox for development in a competitive situation, centers on a determined 25-year-old vampire who struggles with running the family business for his murderous and suffocating vampire parents while trying to chase his dream to become an actor.

It is written by Unstable co-creator Victor Fresco and will be directed by Liz Friedlander (The Rookie). The duo and Wesley executive produce with Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and Tracy Katsky of KatCo. Fox Entertainment is the studio.

The team of the project are all interconnected via past collaborations. Fresco created the Netflix horror comedy series Santa Clarita Diet, which he executive produced with Kaplan and Katsky. Friedlander and Wesley have been friends since she directed episodes of The Vampire Diaries.

Twisters and The Idea of You are the most nominated films for the 2025 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, the nominees for which were unveiled Friday.

Twisters’ Rachel Levy earned a nod for best music supervision among major budget films, while Frankie Pine with the romantic comedy The Idea of You received a nomination for best music supervision in a mid-budget film. And in the best film song competition, the Twisters action thriller got a nod for “Out of Oklahoma,” while The Idea of You will contend in the category with the title song “The Idea of You”.

Music supervisors Steve Schnur, Raphaella Lima, Codie Childs, Mike Ladman and Mara Tacham received the most individual nominations with three each, and Netflix earned the most nominations among major studios with 13 in all.

Every once in a while, an actor will give a performance that people remember for the rest of their lives. For Vince Vaughn (Bad Monkey), it was from an unexpected title. Best known for his comedic performances in movies like Wedding Crashers and Couples Retreat, Vaughn surprised everyone by taking on a dense and even scary role in the prison drama Brawl in Cell Block 99. It's the kind of movie you have to see to believe, but you'll only be able to check it out on Netflix until the end of this month.

Bill Lawrence is set to receive the Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence at the 77th annual Writers Guild Awards, the East Coast edition of which is set to take place in New York’s Edison Ballroom on Saturday, February 15.

The Sargent Award is presented to a writer who embodies the spirit, commitment and comic genius of Sargent — a writer-producer known for his work on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show, who served as president of the Wgae for 14 years and was a dedicated mentor to new writers. Previously, the prize has been bestowed upon the likes of Paul Simms, Judd Apatow, Tina Fey & Robert Carlock, Steve O’Donnell, Norman Stiles, Lorne Michaels, Paula Pell and James L. Brooks.

In a statement on the honor, Lawrence said, “I couldn’t be more honored to be included with the amazing writers who received this before me. I hope people think I look young.

“Scrubs” creator and “Ted Lasso” writer Bill Lawrence is set to receive the Writers Guild of America East’s Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence at the 77th annual WGA Awards next month.

Named in honor of legendary “Saturday Night Live” writer and television producer Herb Sargent, who served as Wgae president for 14 years, the WGA East’s Sargent Award is given to a writer who “embodies the spirit, commitment and comic genius of Mr. Sargent, as well as his dedication to mentoring new writers,” per the writers’ union.

Previous recipients of the Sargent Award include writers Paul Simms, Judd Apatow, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, Steve O’Donnell, Norman Stiles, Lorne Michaels, Paula Pell and James L. Brooks.

The prize will be bestowed upon Lawrence at the 2025 Writers Guild Awards’ New York ceremony for WGA East members on Feb. 15, which is held concurrently with the WGA West’s Los Angeles event.

Amy Schumer is back with a new Netflix comedy. Schumer recently worked with the streamer when she appeared in Jerry Seinfeld’s breakfast comedy Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. This time, she co-writes and stars in Kinda Pregnant. The synopsis reads, “Jealous of her best friend’s pregnancy, Lainy wears a fake baby bump…and accidentally meets the man of her dreams.” Netflix has just released a trailer for the movie, which is written by Schumer and Julie Paiva. The script also comes from a story by Paiva, and Tyler Spindel helms the film as the director.

Kinda Pregnant also stars Jillian Bell, Will Forte, Damon Wayans Jr., and Brianne Howey (Ginny & Georgia). Also joining the film are Alex Moffat, Joel David Moore (Avatar), Lizze Broadway (Gen V), Urzila Carlson and Francis Benhamou.

Now, Lawrence has made a pledge to fans looking forward to the reboot's premiere.

A Scrubs reboot is officially in the works, 14 years after its finale aired, and now, the series’ creator, Bill Lawrence, is talking about why it took so long to get off the ground. Per the Los Angeles Times, Lawrence, who is also the creator of the Apple TV+ shows Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Bad Monkey, “was always hesitant” to revisit the medical comedy/drama/sitcom.

“If I thought it was a bad idea, I wouldn’t do it. I’m not chasing commerce and, without being self-aggrandizing, I don’t need to,” Lawrence said. “Creatively, if somebody said, ‘Do you want to pick Scrubs up right back in the same hospital with the same people on a normal day, everything’s back to normal? No, that would be disingenuous to the story,” he said.

Criminal Record is a British crime thriller series created by Paul Rutman. The Apple TV+ series revolves around the clash between two detectives, one a seasoned veteran and the other early in her career. They go up against each other because of an old murder case after an anonymous phone call brings them to it.

Following recent news of the Bad Monkey season 2 renewal, the murder-mystery series will also be getting a new location. Created by Ted Lasso's Bill Lawrence, the Apple TV+ series is based on Carl Hiaasen’s bestselling detective novel and stars Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, a disgraced former Miami detective turned health inspector. Bad Monkey season 1 follows Yancy after a severed arm washes up on the shore of the Florida Keys, leading him into a world of corruption and crime that’s as absurd as it is dangerous. Its depiction of eccentric Floridians and Vaughn's sarcastic portrayal of Yancy has made it a standout on the streaming platform.

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is bringing back the medical comedy 15 years later after the show ended with a notoriously disliked final season. Despite having the opportunity to retcon that ninth season in different ways, Lawrence says the upcoming reboot will honor the controversial events of Seasn 9, which mainly focused on a new set of characters (in a new location) — something that wasn't fully embraced by Scrubs fans. While Season 9 did see most of the original stars return in guest roles, Donald Faison and John C. McGinley were the only two to return in recurring roles. That was obviously a bold choice (given the popularity of the show's original cast)... and it didn't pay off: Scrubs was canceled following its ninth season.

As Gov. Gavin Newsom readies a plan to double California’s film and TV incentive program from $330 million to $750 million a year in tax relief for producers who shoot in the state, a new coalition is forming to lobby aggressively to keep Hollywood in Hollywood.

The group, titled the California Production Coalition, comprises 30-plus businesses and organizations including studio operators like Hudson Pacific Properties and Raleigh Studios as well as payroll providers like Entertainment Partners and Wrapbook, film equipment providers and the studios’ main trade org the Motion Picture Association.

It launched with an independent poll commissioned that pushes its narrative that voters in the state also care about keeping the motion picture industry filming in Hollywood. And the formation arrives the same day as the California Film Commission touted that it had enticed season two of Apple TV+’s Bad Monkey to relocate from Florida with $20 million in tax credits.
