Chronicle Director's Cut arrived on Blu-ray this week from Fox Home Entertainment. Having seen this in theaters and loving it, I was very excited to see what the Director's Cut had in store. Chronicle is the best entry into the found-footage genre. Josh Trank did a fantastic job of directing based on a script by Max Landis. What made the film was the story and the great cast, which includes Dane DeHaan (True Blood), Michael B. Jordan (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood), Alex Russell (Almost Kings), and Michael Kelly (The Adjustment Bureau). Don’t look at this as just a superhero movie, it has a strong human element and is a great origin story for what will hopefully be more to come!

The film follows three high school students (DeHaan, Jordan and Russell) as they accidentally discover a mysterious hole in the woods, which leads to them developing out-of-this-world telekinetic powers.

Science-fiction movie Chronicle proved that films don’t need a heap of star power to be good.

Chronicle tells the story of three high school friends — Dane DeHaan (TV’s In Treatment), Alex Russell (Almost Kings) and Michael B. Jordan (Red Tails) — who discover that they have superpowers. It’s all fun and games until things get dangerous. Soon the boys’ lives start spinning out of control and the friendships are tested.

The PG-13 movie doesn’t have a big name director, either. It’s the first feature film helmed by Josh Trank (TV’s The Kill Point) and the first movie written by Max Landis, based on a story they came up with together.

Reportedly produced for a relatively low $12 million budget, Chronicle was hailed by critics and grossed a tidy $64.2 million.

What would you do if you suddenly had superpowers? In comic books, those that develop superpowers usually try to use them for good, but director Josh Trank's debut movie Chronicle takes a more realistic approach about how real people might react when given the "great responsibility" of superpowers.

In the "found footage" movie, Dane DeHaan (Amigo), Michael B. Jordan (Red Tails) and Alex Russell (The Wheeler Boys) play three high school students who develop superpowers like invulnerability and telekinesis after finding a mysterious substance near an unexplained crater. Two previously released preview clips have shown the boys finding the crater and demonstrating their newfound powers by throwing baseballs at each other, while another showed one (DeHaan) starting to use his powers for destructive means. MTV has released a new clip from the movie which shows the boys in more innocent times, studying telekinesis and then using that same power...

A new French teaser poster for first-time feature director Josh Trank's upcoming "found footage" movie, Chronicle, has turned up online and it is very much in keeping with the style and tone of the two domestic teaser posters that have been released, except that all three of the teenage "superheroes" — played by Dane DeHaan (Amigo), Michael B. Jordan (Red Tails) and Alex Russell (The Wheeler Boys) — are depicted. Additionally, two new preview clips from the movie have been released, one showing the trio investigating the crater/tunnel where they find the mysterious substance that gives them their incredible powers, and the other showing them testing their powers by chucking baseballs at one another.

Universal Pictures has officially started on production for a new untitled Wolfman movie that will go straight to DVD and Blu-ray. The new werewolf thriller is set to be released on on Halloween of next year 2012. They remade The Wolfman a couple of years ago and did a decent job with that. This new werewolf movie from Universal takes place in 19th century Europe so I’m not sure why they didn’t just make a sequel, but this looks good. Here’s what we know about it at this point:

Leave it to Universal Pictures to make an announcement on Halloween about a new werewolf movie they've got cooking. While the company known for giving us Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman and The Creature From the Black Lagoon, amongst many other monster movies, has a new lycanthrope film in development, it doesn't have an official title just yet.

Untitled Werewolf Thriller is the working description for the movie. It will also bypass theatrical release and instead head directly for home video, arriving in time for watching during the Halloween season of 2012. Shooting has already started in and around Bucharest, Hungary.

The movie stars Stephen Rea (V For Vendetta, The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Ed Quinn (True Blood, Eureka), Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars), Guy Wilson (Almost Kings), Adam Croasdell (Supernatural) and Rachel Dipillo (Law & Order). The Untitled Werewolf Thriller movie is being directed by Louis Morneau (Joy Ride II) from a screenplay by Michael Tabb.

Even though it's yet to be given an official title, though we kind of like Untitled Werewolf Thriller, Universal's follow-up to its dud of a wolfman flick, 2010's The Wolfman, is already beginning to snarl!

Not based on any comic book whatsoever, Chronicle follows three Pacific Northwest high school students — Dane DeHaan (Amigo), Michael B. Jordan (The Wire, Red Tails) and Alex Russell (The Wheeler Boys) — who make a discovery that grants them superpowers. As they learn how to control them, they also learn that a dark side comes with uncanny abilities.

Shot in a "found footage" style (think Paranormal Activity), the first trailer for Chronicle has just been released, along with a new teaser poster.

Ato Pictures have unveiled the official trailer for comedy-drama Terri.

Directed by Azazel Jacobs (Momma’s Man), Terri stars John C. Reilly (Magnolia), Jacob Wysocki (Huge), Creed Bratton (The Office), Olivia Crocicchia (Almost Kings) and Melanie Abramoff (Detention).

A moving and often funny film about the relationship between Terri (Wysocki), an oversized teen misfit, and the garrulous but well-meaning vice principal (Reilly) who takes an interest in him.

Terri premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to lukewarm reviews, and will hit cinemas in the Us on July 1.

"Rescue Me" actress Olivia Crocicchia has been cast in the indie comedy "Terri," opposite John C. Reilly.

Directed by Azazel Jacobs, "Terri" centers on a large 14-year-old boy in a small town as he struggles to adjust to his difficult life. Crocicchia will play Heather, a pretty but sad girl who helps Terri cope with a frequently hostile world.

The film was written by novelist Patrick deWitt ("Ablutions"). Producers include Alex Orlovsky and Lynette Howell ("Half Nelson"), Hunter Gray ("Voy a Explotar") and Alison Dickey ("Piggie"). David Guy Levy ("August") is an executive producer.

The Silverwood Films-alo Productions-Verisimilitude production began shooting last week in Los Angeles.

It's been a busy year for The Wheeler Boys writer/director Philip G. Flores. Since winning Film Independent's Netflix Find Your Voice competition last year, Flores has been on quite a ride going from script to screen in less than 12 months.  Flores, an alumni of Film Independent's Screenwriters Lab, sat down with Film Independent Director of Talent Development Josh Welsh to talk about The Wheeler Boys and its upcoming world premiere later this month at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

You've been extremely busy since we last interviewed you, just before the Screenwriters Lab began.  It's a broad question, but how have these last months been for you?

 

Making this film has been the most incredible experience of my life. It's been amazing to see a story you've been dreaming up in your head forever comes to life, first on set, and now during the post-production process.

You won’t need to be in downtown Los Angeles to see “The Wheeler Boys” when it premieres at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 25.

Film Independent and Netflix announced on Friday that the drama from first-time director Philip G. Flores will be available for free streaming on Netflix at the same time as its festival screening, which will take place on Friday, June 25 at 8 p.m. Pacific.

The 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival is set to run June 17-27 in a brand new location. Oh, it’s still in L.A, but it’s moving across town, from Westwood — where it’s been held the past few years — all the way over to Downtown.

The main “hub” for the fest will be the new L.A. Live complex, but there will also be screenings at other locations, such as the Downtown Independent and Redcat theaters. The city is really trying to build downtown up into a major arts and culture hub, so the festival moving there fits in with that agenda. Film Independent, the organization that runs Laff, also runs the annual Independent Spirit Awards, an event that also moved downtown — from Santa Monica — this year.

Making for quite the dreamy trio, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Greene and Portia Doubleday teamed up for Nylon Korea magazine.

Standing side-by-side, the three young beauties struck a playful pose for the cover of the May 2010 denim issue.

On the work end of things, Vanessa, Ashley and Portia have all been busy with their own projects.

Miss Hudgens has completed both "Beastly" and "Sucker Punch" while Miss Greene is juggling multiple gigs alongside her upcoming promotional duties for "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse".
