Behind every tradition lies a revolution. This Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.
To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (Nffa) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
Coming off the most successful film in the series, The Purge: Election Year, creator James DeMonaco (writer/director of The Purge), returns alongside the producers of this worldwide phenomenon: Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier.

The fourth movie in the upcoming Purge series is going back to the beginning. The First Purge will go back to.. well.. the first Purge. Writer/creator/director James DeMonaco returns as writer, with director Gerad McMurray (Burning Sands) stepping in behind the camera.
The fourth film will feature a whole new cast led by Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Valez, and Marisa Tomei. In our current political and social climate, the movie actually looks pretty scary. The Purge series is produced by Jason Blum (Insidious series, Get Out, Split).

Universal and Blumhouse have launched the first teaser for The Purge 4. It arrived during last night's State of the Union address, following Trump and his words of encouragement for the country. The announcement video doesn't quite mock the President's speech, but it adheres to what Trump had to say about keeping America great.
"What makes America great? The answer is simple, really, Americans make America great. You are the lifeblood of the nation. Your rights as Americans must be safeguarded. There's only one solution to keep our country great. A new tradition. Participate today, and it will make you prouder than when your boy looks up at you and says, 'Dad, I want to Purge, too!'"
This first trailer arrived just hours after Universal and Blumhouse revealed the official title, with the sequel actually a prequel. It is called The First Purge, and will bring fans back to that...

Ready to see a new installment of The Purge on July 1st?
Expanding the universe introduced in the hit franchise that electrified the culture and earned $200 million at the worldwide box office, Universal Pictures’ The Purge: Election Year reveals the next terrifying chapter that occurs over 12 hours of annual lawlessness sanctioned by the New Founders of America to keep this country great.
It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

The Purge is one of those franchises that manages to rest heavily on its amazing premise. The first two films weren't great in execution, but where they failed in execution, they certainly have made up for in world building. Simply put, a dystopian world as shown in these films is infinitely intriguing, and as such, I find myself coming back to these films more excited than the last, despite being underwhelmed each time.
This year's The Purge: Election Year continues with the mythology established in The Purge: Anarchy, following a senator whose goal it is to get rid of the Purge altogether. Needless to say, this puts quite a target on her back come Purge night.
The first trailer was very story-centric, but this time around, it looks like the studio has opted to focus on the creepy atmosphere and violent set pieces.

The real-life presidential campaign looks like something out of a movie, so should it come as any surprise that it has inspired one? The summer sequel The Purge: Election Year has been directly influenced by the two presidential front runners Donald Trump and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Taking place in the near future, this latest installment of the popular franchise is a political conspiracy thriller that is decidedly different from the previous two entries.
The movie revolves around a fictional presidential campaign, pitting rivals against each other played by Elizabeth Mitchell and Kyle Secor. The main difference between their campaigns is that Elizabeth Mitchell's Charlene 'Charlie' Roan wants to end the annual Purge holiday that allows criminals to roam free and commit whatever acts they want, including murder, during a 24 hour grace period. PEuTVyuu5InZyA||Kyle Secor} wants to keep the holiday in place.

The Purge is definitely a unique beast of a franchise. The premise is beyond amazing, but the execution so far for both films has been problematic, to say the least. Yet despite the rough two entries, when I left both of them, I thought, "yeah, I'd see another." There's just so much latent potential in the setup that I know at some point they're sure to strike the right chords. Will this third film be the charm? Possibly. If the recent trailer is any indication, then there's a good chance.
But don't take my word for it, check out the trailer below!
Check out the press release for the film below:

Frank Grillo is back, as the first trailer for The Purge 3 - now The Purge: Election Year - lands...
The Purge: Anarchy was, for our money, an example in how a sequel should be done. It took the core idea of the first film - an annual night where breaking the law is allowed - and expanded it significantly, adding a dose of John Carpenter into the mix.
Writer/director James DeMonaco is shepherding the third movie in the series for release this summer, with the terrific Frank Grillo returning to star. And the movie is currently scheduled for release on July 15th 2016.
Here, then, is the first trailer for The Purge 3 - now called The Purge: Election Year - that’s just landed. Take a look and see what you reckon…

Fade in on a boy talking to the camera, and you can already tell that this is a tired film. Helmed by Clint Eastwood (working behind the screen only, this time), Jersey Boys is a film adapted from the hit Broadway jukebox musical. It tells the origin story of The Four Seasons, their rise to fame, and the self-destruction of their personal lives. It’s a tale as old as showbiz, and this film shows a desperate lack of originality. The boy talking to us, giving us unnecessary narrative set-up (and not even doing it particularly well) is Tommy DeVito (Vincent Piazza). He introduces us to his brother Nicky (Johnny Cannizzaro), their friend Nick Massi (Michael Lomenda) who performs in a musical trio with them, and a wannabe singer named Frankie Valli (John Lloyd Young). The boys, as boys in Jersey are wont to do, get caught up in gangster...

As you may have seen, a news story coming out of Chicago made the rounds across the internet this past weekend, claiming that 112 people had been murdered by a group of teens whose killing spree was inspired by The Purge: Anarchy (review).
It's precisely those kinds of stories that give horror movies a bad name, but thankfully, this one wasn't legit.
The website Cream Bmp Daily reported on the story Friday, which was packed with alleged quotes from both civilians and police officers.
The mass killing was described as a re-enactment of The Purge: Anarchy, taking place shortly after the movie hit theaters on Friday night. The site reported that no arrests had been made and that police would be closely monitoring social media sites, waiting for the teenage killers to brag about their crimes.
Fortunately, the obviously fake story was shortly thereafter debunked by The Epoch Times, who revealed...
