While Netflix is constantly adding things to its vast library, the streamer also has to get rid of things too. One can assume that Netflix has many large servers to house all the movies and series that we get to see. But maybe those servers begin to lack room, so some things have to go.
This week is not too bad for having to say goodbye to some items. The 21st is by far the saddest day. Southpaw is a fantastic film starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a boxer who must turn his life around after a tragedy occurs. It is a bit too by note at times, but the acting makes up for any lag in the story.
Book Club also leaves on that day. There is also little doubt as to the acting ability of the cast. The film features Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen.

Pour one (cup of coffee) out for a true cinematic genius — David Lynch has died.
And while he’s obviously had a huge impact on the worlds of art, film, and, sometimes YouTube, for those of us who were too young to watch Twin Peaks when it came out, and waaay too young to see Blue Velvet when it played in theaters, our first taste of Lynch’s style was in a cartoon.
In the second installment of The Simpsons’ “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” two-parter, Chief Wiggum chugs a carton of warm cream while attempting to pull an all-nighter. After immediately falling asleep, he’s transported to Twin Peaks’ red room, the extra-dimensional space full of jazz music and designer furniture. Not unlike how “The Man From Nowhere” and other supernatural entities aided Agent Cooper on the original show, Lisa provides Chief Wiggum with the clue he needs to crack...

After sitting in the can for nearly four years, Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man, was presented to a rapturous audience at SXSW last night. The film declaring loudly what the man himself was too humble to acknowledge; Dev Patel has the potential to become the future of action cinema, both behind and in front of the camera. Bringing together elements from contemporary action cinemas from around the world, most notably Korea – think The Man From Nowhere, the films of Ryoo Seung Wan, and others – and Indonesia – plenty of echoes of the pioneering cinema of Gareth Evans and Tumo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us – Monkey Man combines technical chops with savage critiques of age old divisions in India to create...

“Enter the Dragon,” starring Bruce Lee, is one of the four or five greatest action films ever made. Yet it has a thin, awkward, lurching story. The movie gets away with it, of course; the plot is merely a frame on which to hang Lee’s singular hypnotic balletic fighting bravura. In that spirit, there are countless action films that have functional, bare-bones plots, from the revenge sagas of Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude van Damme, Chuck Norris, or Jason Statham to the “John Wick” films to the action dramas of South Korea and Indonesia (“The Raid” and its sequel). So when you watch “Monkey Man,” a film that has blistering fight scenes and was directed and co-written by its star, Dev Patel, you’d think that the movie, like those others, would be able to transcend whatever limitations it might have as a drama.

The Killer is a South Korean action thriller movie directed by Jae-Hoon Choi. It stars Jang Hyuk yu.
Merciless action.
Premise
A retired hitman whose wife goes on a trip with her friend, and asks him to look after the friend’s teenage daughter. Things go awry when he is forced to use a little violence to protect the girl from juvenile delinquents, but then they are found dead and the girl is kidnapped.
About the Movie
A “recipe” that worked well – very well – a few years back, and that, applying the same premise and an almost identical character, keeps on repeating itself movie after movie. The elements are there, with the good action sequences, the heroic character, but it not new. However, of what you seek if just raw action this might be to your liking.

Starting from his first acting gig, as a car salesman in the feature “Our Town”, which he also scripted, Mo Hong-jin has shown time and time again his affinity for the thriller genre. Even though it has been one of the most popular genre in his home country, it would take him nine years until the first day of shooting began for “Missing You”. Besides offering the kind of entertainment that goes along with this kind of movie, as a writer he was interested in what turns a person into a “monster”, as Mo explains in interviews about his feature. Especially with regards to the character of Hee-jo, played by actress Shim Eun-kyung, he wanted to know whether she decided to go the same path as the killer she had been following or if she would remain human and a “girl”.

Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Inspired by a true story about a guy’s online blog detailing his relationship with a girl, “My Sassy Girl” was an absolute phenomenon in Korea, and in much of Asia in general. The pinnacle of Korean rom-com movies and copied over and over, it never really invented the game in the first place. However, it did perfect it.
“My Sassy Girl” follows the story of the mild-mannered Kyun-woo (played by Cha Tae-hyun), a 25-year old student who essentially saves the life of the unnamed “sassy” girl (played by Jun Ji-hyun). Despite the absolutely insane behavior of the girl now and then, Kyun-woo soon feels some sense of responsibility for her and ends up falling in love in the process. An unlikely love story that gender-bends a lot of regular stereotypes, and does so quite well. As mentioned, it is based on a series of blogposts from...

“Good Neighbour” is a project worth looking out for two big reasons. One: it is the return of actor Oh Dal-su. The once much-loved actor fell sharply from grace when his name came up in the early days of the #metoo movement in Korea. All projects featuring the actor had since been shelved or dropped, including this one. However, the court cleared him of all wrongdoings last year and fans have been looking forward to his comeback to the big screen. The second reason “Good Neighbour” should jump up everybody’s anticipated films list is that it is also the return of director Lee Hwan-kyung, whose last film seven years ago was the smash-hit and still highly popular “Miracle in Cell No. 7”. Excited now? I bet you are!

It's hard being an assassin, especially when you take your work home with you. Even more so when that work turns out to be the psycho brother of your last target, who's chased you to a foreign country where you're trying to retrieve your ex-lover's kidnapped daughter. This concept, which combines elements of Leon, Taken and Korea's The Man from Nowhere, itself a mashup of those earlier Hollywood films, is about all the plot you need to known about the slick Korean action-thriller Deliver Us from Evil. If that's not much to go on, tough, cause that's really all there is to it. That may sound a little negative, and if I was only going to discuss the narrative merits of this sophomore film from...

The creative duo behind the hugely successful John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad, have another action movie project in their sights, namely a remake of The Man from Nowhere for New Line. Stahelski is on board to produce the remake, which Kolstad will reportedly be writing the script.
The original The Man from Nowhere hails from South Korea and was the highest grossing movie of the year there back when it was released ten years ago, making $42 million and holding the number one spot for a total of five weeks. Directed by Jeong-beom Lee and starring Won Bin and Sae-ron Kim, The Man from Nowhere follows a quiet, mysterious pawn shop owner, who is drawn into a convoluted drug-and-organ trafficking ring in order to save a young girl who is his only friend. Thankfully, said pawn shop owner turns out to be an ex-special agent and possesses all...
