Exclusive: Andrew Koji (Bullet Train), Jason Momoa (A Minecraft Movie), Noah Centineo (Warfare) and Roman Reigns (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) are in talks to star in Legendary’s live-action Street Fighter movie, based on the Capcom video games, sources tell Deadline.

Reps for the studio declined comment, and the plot of the film remains under wraps. In February, Bad Trip‘s Kitao Sakurai boarded as director, inheriting the project from Talk To Me‘s Danny & Michael Philippou, who attached themselves in April of 2023, following Legendary’s acquisition of exclusive film and TV rights to the Street Fighter IP. The film adaptation is being co-developed and co-produced alongside Capcom, the developer and publisher of the video games. No word has emerged yet on who has written and who specifically will produce the actioner.

Roughly one year ago, Helldivers 2 players carried out a special operation on the Meridia planet of the Umlaut Sector to take out the Terminid Supercolony residing there. Subsequently, Meridia was destroyed, but a black hole opened up in its place. At the time, no one expected the black hole to be a big problem, but it started moving directly towards Super Earth. The Meridian Singularity was destroying everything on its path, but Super Earth was able to stop it using the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator.

Does anyone else remember when the SyFy channel was known as The Sci-Fi Channel? If you do, then you might remember that there have been a long line of amazing original shows the network has given us over the years.

Some of the shows even had crossover events, produced spinoff series, and generally entertained us for years. Maybe it's just me, but I miss a lot of the old shows that we used to enjoy on the network. While some shows didn't get nearly enough time to shine, others were given enough seasons that when they ended we didn't feel like we lost out on possible stories.

But even with shows like Eureka and Stargate getting finales that worked, that doesn't mean that we wouldn't love more time in these universes. In fact, whether it is a revival, a reboot or even a spin-off, it would be nice to see...

Continuing its tradition of celebrating excellence in Arab cinema, the Arab Cinema Center (Acc) has announced the nominees for the ninth edition of its annual Critics Awards for Arab Films.

Leading the pack with five nominations each this year are four films: Thank You For Banking With US; Everybody Loves Touda; Ghost Trail and Seeking Haven For Mr. Rambo. Following close behind them, with four nominations, is: AÏCHA.

The Jester was a hit for Dread, resonating with fans of indie horror, the Terrifier franchise, and horror hounds craving something off the beaten path.

Andrew Koji, best known for “Bullet Train” and the Max series “Warrior,” will next star in the cast of an indie action and heist film called “High Stakes Holiday.”

The film is in the vein of “Ocean’s 11” meets “Home Alone” and follows a jaded ex-MI6 agent turned security guard (Koji) who teams up with two sharp-witted sisters on vacation in Las Vegas after they get caught in the middle of a high-stakes heist. The trio must tag team to outsmart a cunning international thief and save a priceless diamond gauntlet — just in time for Christmas.

“High Stakes Holiday” also stars actual sisters Madeleine McGraw, best known for “The Black Phone,” and Violet McGraw, best known for “M3GAN,” as the two on-screen sisters who must team up with Koji’s character. Azizi Donnelly, Jack Griffo, Struggler Jennings, and Brynne Kurland also co-star.

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to Thomas Ray’s novella, Silencer, enlisting Ben Jacoby (The First Omen) to adapt it for the big screen.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce as part of his first-look deal with the studio alongside NeoText Corporation, the publisher of the novella. Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, and Jay Schuminsky will produce for NeoText, with Greg Cohen overseeing development for di Bonaventura Pictures.

Fans loved Buffy for its quick wit, high stakes (I swear no pun was intended), splashy action and deep characters. Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded in 2003 after seven seasons on the air, and remains a beloved and influential show to this day. There's been talk over the years of rebooting Buffy, with original series creator Joss Whedon working with showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen on a new show a while back. But that idea fizzled out a couple of years ago, probably because Whedon was accused of toxic behavior on his sets and has since been excommunicated from Hollywood.

But lately there have been signs of something stirring, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar coming around to the idea of a revival. “I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” she said last month. "But watching [recent reboot shows] Sex And The City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.

Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.

Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.

William Shatner is no stranger to awards, having won a Saturn for his 1983 portrayal of Admiral James T. Kirk in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, a Saturn for his guest-starring role on the sci-fi series, Haven in 2016, and, of course, we can't forget the two Emmys he took home for his portrayal of Denny Crane in both The Practice and Boston Legal. His career spans over seven decades and brings with it awards, nominations, and honors, with another coming up on February 2nd.

This week’s episode of Hallmark’s “The Way Home,” called “The Way We Were,” mixes past and present very interestingly. While examining themes of love, family, and the mysteries of time travel, it introduces 1974 as a significant new period.

After the exciting season premiere, in which the Landry family found their long-lost son, Jacob, this episode details the problems Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh) and Elliot Augustine (Evan Williams) are having. Despite their significant move-in together, their relationship is tense, especially because of the mysterious pond that allows time travel.

When Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) is pulled back to 1974, Kat follows her. This makes things more tense. During a stressful moment, Kat turns down Elliot’s offer to go with her, which leads to an interesting conversation. “No one said Kat was perfect,” says co-showrunner Heather Conkie. “She’s one of the most flawed characters we’ve ever written,”

The Syfy Original Series Haven, created by Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn, is a wonderful supernatural mystery loosely based on the novel The Colorado Kid by Stephen King. The show stars Emily Rose, who is most known for her work in the video game series Uncharted. Rose plays Audrey, an FBI agent who comes to the small town of Haven, Maine, where some of the townspeople are afflicted with curses referred to on the show as “Troubles.” A procedural with a supernatural twist, the underrated series was a lot more than meets the eye and deserves to be your next binge.

While plot details for the film are under wraps, we’ve heard the short story described as Men in Black meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It follows a woman who wakes up in a field with no memory of how she got there and learns that she’s been missing since 1976, yet hasn’t aged a day. She finds herself living in a world she no longer recognizes — all her friends and family, long gone — until learning she had a daughter who went missing with her in 1976, but never came back. The Fourth edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival (Rsiff) came to a crescendo with the naming of the winners of this year’s prestigious Yusr Awards.

The features jury, Tûba Büyüküstün, Minnie Driver, Daniel Dae Kim, and Abu Bakr Shawky, led by Jury President Spike Lee deliberated to finally select winners across 16 feature films in competition, while the shorts jury Hamzah Jamjoom, Ramata-Toulaye Sy, and Ke-Xi Wu judged across the short film offering of Rsiff 2024.

When casting call sheets went out for "Star Trek: The Next Generation," way back in December of 1986, the character of Counselor Deanna Troi was listed as "an alien women who is tall (5'8" - 6") and slender, about 30 years old, and quite beautiful. [...] Deanna is probably foreign with looks and accent to match. [...] Her alien 'look' is still to be determined." The name of Troi's species hadn't yet been determined in 1986, but Trekkies can now tell you that she is half-human and half-Betazoid. 

Marina Sirtis was cast in the role, and she was a 30-year-old British actress of Cypriot descent, so the casting directors nailed it. Her alien "look" would eventually entail black eyes, and Sirtis wore contact lenses throughout her tenure on the series.

As for the accent, the showrunners let Sirtis merely keep her own British accent, rather than inventing something alien. Her accent, however, became something of a sticking point for Sirtis.

Sophie Turner is closing in on the highly coveted role of British archeologist Lara Croft in Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics’ adaptation of adventure video game Tomb Raider.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is writing and exec producing the live-action series, which received a series order in the spring and will stream on Amazon’s Prime Video. Turner, best known for playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, is in talks to play the lead role, previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in feature film adaptations of the video game series.

Tests for the role took place in October with several British actresses in the mix, including Turner. Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven) was the lone American to make the shortlist. Emma Mackey (Sex Education) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) are also said to have tested for the role, according to sources.

Exclusive: Sophie Turner is in negotiations to star as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, Prime Video’s high-profile series adaptation of the video game franchise from Emmy-winning Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, sources tell Deadline. A rep for Amazon MGM Studios declined comment.

As we reported exclusively last month, the Game of Thrones alumna was among the actresses who tested for the high-profile role, previously played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Tomb Raider, which Amazon MGM head Jennifer Salke called “epic” and “globe-trotting” while announcing the series order in May, has been a passion project for writer/executive producer Waller-Bridge, who spoke fondly of the title character at the time of the pickup.

“Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” she said in May.

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a series version of the Tess Gerritsen novel “The Spy Coast,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is being developed under Amazon’s first-look deal with Will Graham and his Field Trip production banner. Graham will executive produce the project, with Lilla and Nora Zuckerman attached to write, executive produce, and showrun the series.

The official logline for “The Spy Coast” states, “Maggie Bird’s idyllic life as a retired spy in rural Maine is upended when her former agency comes asking questions about her final mission decades prior. With the help of her fellow retired spies, Maggie is forced on a globetrotting mission to discover the shocking truth behind what happened on her last mission all those years ago.”

Amazon’s head of Pan-English scripted originals Rola Bauer is exiting her role at the tech giant.

Bauer, who was elevated to the position in 2022 as part of a restructuring following Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, previously served as MGM’s president of international TV.

An individual familiar with the matter tells TheWrap that the decision was made by Bauer, who is looking to “return to her entrepreneurial roots” and pursue options outside the company. The separation was a mutual decision with Amazon and her official date of leave remains to be determined.

During her tenure over the past two years, the Pan-English division has produced six projects, including “Harlan Coben’s Lazarus” starring Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy, “Haven” with Sophie Turner, “Quarter Life” with Riz Ahmed and “The Girlfriend” with Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.

The Pan-English team will now be absorbed into the larger Amazon MGM Studios...

International TV veteran Rola Bauer is stepping down from her role as Amazon MGM Studios’ head of English-language global original series produced outside the U.S.

The parting is amicable and instigated by Bauer. The seasoned producer and creative executive joined MGM in 2020 as president of international TV production. The scope of her role changed after Amazon’s 2022 acquisition of MGM to focus on a specific type of content that Amazon MGM Studios dubbed Pan-English global originals — projects produced in English but outside the U.S. The team put an emphasis on glossy event series that can travel well across territories and cultures.

International television executive, and producing pioneer, Rola Bauer is stepping down from her post as as head of pan-English scripted SVOD TV at Amazon Studios, Bauer and Amazon announced on Wednesday.

After several years at the global streamer, producing series starring the likes of Sophie Turner, Bill Nighy, Riz Ahmed and Robin Wright, Bauer said she wanted to “return to my entrepreneurial roots.”

Bauer was President of International Television Productions at MGM when, in May 2021, Amazon bought the studio in an $8.5 billion deal. Following the merger, she was put in charge of a new division, pan-English global originals, developing and producing English-language series outside the United States.

Exclusive: In what is shaping up to be one of the hottest TV casting searches this fall, Amazon MGM Studios has assembled a wishlist of accomplished young actors for the role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, Prime Video’s high-profile series adaptation of the video game franchise from Emmy-winning Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) are poised to test for the part previously played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, sources tell Deadline.

It is unclear who else would be doing a test for the famous role, a process that has been shrouded in secrecy. Some of the names on the wishlist alongside Turner and Boynton, including Emma Corrin and Mackenzie Davis, are not believed to be testing. A rep for Amazon MGM Studios declined comment.
