Director Colin Trevorrow is swapping out dinosaurs for bringing in aliens for his next feature film. The Jurassic World filmmaker is set to direct an untitled conspiracy thriller about Area 51 for Paramount Pictures.
According to Deadline, Trevorrow will direct and produce the untitled movie about the local Las Vegas TV news journalist who first broke the story of Area 51 in the late 1980s. Area 51 is the common name for Homey Airport, a highly classified United States Air Force facility in Southern Nevada that many believe is where the government stores recovered UFOs and other extraterrestrial artifacts. Thomas and William Wheeler wrote the script. Trevorrow will produce through his Metronome banner, while Ryan Reynolds is on board through his Maximum Effort production company.

Colin Trevorrow is heading to Area 51 with a conspiracy thriller he is producing and directing for Paramount. More details on the project below.
Colin Trevorrow is swapping dinosaurs and, er, bugs for something a little more cosmic. The Jurassic World: Dominion director has signed on to direct a new conspiracy thriller for Paramount Pictures, Deadline reports.
The project has no title yet, or at least one hasn’t been revealed, but the script is written by William and Thomas Wheeler. The two writers previously collaborated on the script for The Lego Ninjago Movie. Trevorrow will also act as executive producer.
Plot details are largely being kept under wraps, but according to Deadline, the film is “Set in the late 1980s, [and] follows [a] local Las Vegas TV news journalist who first broke the story of Area 51.”

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is trading dinosaurs for aliens as he is set to direct a new film focused on Area 51. Since breaking onto the scene with 2012's Safety Not Guaranteed, Trevorrow has become an in-demand director, particularly following the box office smash hit Jurassic World. While The Book of Henry performed terribly with critics and potentially lost him his Star Wars directing gig, his last film, Jurassic World: Dominion, still managed to pull in $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Given the billion-dollar grosses of his two Jurassic World films, he seemingly has been given carte blanche and is cashing it in for an original movie.
Deadline reports that Trevorrow has signed on to direct and produce an untitled conspiracy thriller at Paramount Pictures focused on Area 51. Ryan Reynolds's production company, Maximum Effort, is producing the untitled project, with Reynolds receiving an executive producer credit. The film...

Though Ted Lasso is a beloved and acclaimed series for many, the third and (so far) last season of the hit sports comedy-drama remains polarizing for some fans. However, its lead star believes much of the criticism aimed at Season 3 was unwarranted, accusing the show's detractors of watching something they "clearly don't understand."
Speaking with TVLine, Ted Lasso star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis addressed fan criticism regarding Season 3, including complaints about the core cast members being split into different storylines, leading to unfocused narratives and unresolved subplots. According to Sudeikis, Season 3 was set up to make every audience member become an increasingly "active participant" and pique their curiosity.

If you’ve been keeping up with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, you know it’s one wild and bumpy ride. For those of us invested in the big screen’s only officially Spidey-adjacent anti-hero, Eddie Brock, the past few years have brought mixed emotions. Sony owns the rights to a massive Spider-Man gallery of characters. Still, they can’t exactly bring Spider-Man himself into their solo adventures, so we’ve been watching them piece together a somewhat awkward “Sony-Verse” since 2018, all while the MCU does its own thing with Peter Parker.

The desire to blend reality and fiction in film predates the Found Footage genre by literal decades, with classics like The Legend of Boggy Creek and even the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre dipping their toes into documentary-inspired filmmaking long before in-universe-cameras became popular.
Of course, it was only after The Blair Witch Project that creators would realize both the creative and financial potential of making movies like this – and when it comes to lucrative Pov thrills, very few could compete with Oren Peli and his DIY Paranormal Activity franchise. For over a decade, these films dominated the box-office with formulaic yet consistently entertaining scares made on a budget, with their success allowing the programmer-turned-filmmaker to invest in other spooky projects. And while I’ve already covered Peli’s over-hated Area 51 on a previous edition of The Silver Lining, today we’ll be discussing one of his most unique...

Exclusive: God Friended Me creators Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt are returning to CBS, teaming with the former The Neighborhood writer-producer Laura Moran, James Wan’s Atomic Monster and CBS Studios for Area 51.

Last year, CBS ordered only multi-camera comedy pilots, and its two new comedy series for next season are both multi-cam, Poppa’s House and the Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

Following the massive success of “Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve may have found his next project.
The filmmaker is in discussion to reunite with Legendary for an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Pulitzer Prize finalist “Nuclear War: A Scenario,” Variety has confirmed. Legendary also confirmed that it is working with Villeneuve to develop a third “Dune” film.
Legendary optioned the feature film rights to Jacobsen’s nonfiction book; Villeneuve is currently in talks with the studio to produce, adapt and/or director. His producing partner Tanya Lapointe would also be a part of the project.
Released on March 26, Jacobsen’s book “explores a ticking-clock scenario about what would happen in the event of a nuclear war, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and have been privy to the response plans and have been responsible for those decisions should they have needed to be made.

Paranormal Activity’s impact on horror and the moviegoing landscape in general was considerable. With a clever marketing campaign that focused on audience reaction and encouraged prospective viewers to request their local theater play the movie, it created massive buzz and brought the found footage format back into vogue. It also propelled a former software programmer to great success as an up-and-coming director. Over the next few years, Oren Peli would enjoy his newfound status by producing a number of well-known horror movies, including Paranormal Activity sequels, the Insidious movies, and Chernobyl Diaries. It would take a number of years before he got back into the director’s chair, but when he did, it was for something grander and more ambitious than his debut picture: 2015's Area 51.

The cinematography for “Mank,” “Nomadland,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “News of the World” and “Cherry” has been nominated as the best film work of 2020 by the American Society of Cinematographers, the Asc announced on Wednesday.
The first four of those films were expected to be recognized by the Asc and are thought to be strong contenders for the Oscar for Best Cinematography, but “Cherry” came as a surprise. The Russo brothers film came out in February to withering reviews and had not been considered an awards contender until the Asc included its cinematographer, Newton Thomas Sigel, in its list of nominees.
“Cherry” landed that nomination over a group of films that included “Tenet,” “Minari,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Judas and the Black Messiah” — and “Da 5 Bloods,” a more high-profile film that was also shot by Sigel.

The first annual Area 51 Alienstock is now officially in the books. The gates have been stormed, the government has buckled, and every last alien has been freed. Fine, if you want to get technical, the only thing that’s true from what we just mentioned is the gate storming, and the only person to successfully do that? A 60-year-old woman from California. And it’s highly doubtful that she Naruto ran.
For those unfamiliar with the whole thing, the Storm Area 51 raid started as a joke on Facebook but soon ballooned into a 2 million strong attendee event. It fizzled out in the end, however, with only a few thousand people showing up. Among them were a mere 100 raiders, and the only person to get arrested was the aforementioned, yet-unidentified woman in her 60s.

If you're on Facebook, chances are that you may have heard of the notorious "Storm Area 51" event, to which millions of users have now RSVP'd. The out-of-this-world ordeal started off as a joke after college student Matty Roberts watched Joe Rogan's podcast episode featuring Area 51 whistle-blower Bob Lazar, the subject of a recent documentary on Netflix titled Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers. The meme caught the Air Force's attention and brought Lazar and the film about his UFO experience back into the public radar. If you're wondering how this new documentary on Netflix ties into the event, read on to catch up with the recent alien invasion on your feed.
Here's a little bit of about Lazar's backstory. Most of us know Area 51, located in the Nevada Test and Training Range, to be a highly classified government facility shrouded in secret. Suspicions about this region originate from Lazar,...

The man behind Facebook’s “Storm Area 51” page has come forward, calling it “kind of a joke,” but expressing fears that government agents would come knocking on his door.
Matty Roberts spoke to Nevada’s Klas-tv via video call on Wednesday and expressed shock at how his humor has turned into a viral sensation.
“I posted it on like June 27th and it was kind of a joke,” Roberts said. “And then it waited for like three days and like 40 people, and then it just completely took off, out of nowhere. It’s pretty wild.”

What started out as a (hopefully) gag Facebook event has turned into one of the hottest, most dangerous, and most bizarre stories on the internet. According to the original page, the number of people who plan on storming Area 51 – the long-suspected location of government alien research – later this year has now reached over 1.7 million.
In the short amount of time since the story’s surfaced, social media’s been set on fire, and according to The Washington Post, many of the hotels surrounding the Nevada town have already been booked. While it’s alarming that there’s at least a tiny percentage of people who take this call to action seriously, there’ve been some interesting developments popping up on the internet. And the latest comes in the form of a strange request.
It seems that fans of Katy Perry have been petitioning (via Twitter) to have the major pop star perform her song “E.

Nearly one million people intend to storm Area 51 on September 20th. However, the Defense Department doesn't think it's such a wise idea. As of this writing, a Facebook event has over 873,000 people signed up to go "see them aliens" and over 763,000 people "interested." While this is more than likely a joke event, it has captured the imagination of a lot people who really want to know what the government is hiding from us in the mysterious Area 51 in Nevada.
The top-secret military facility has been operating since 1955, but the United States government did not acknowledge its existence until 2013 and alien enthusiasts want to know what they have been doing there for over 60 years. Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews does not think the "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" event is a wise decision, even if it's a joke. She had this to say.

As popular as the actress is, Scarlett Johansson has been something of an easy target for jokes on social media for the past couple of years due to her controversial decisions to take on a Japanese character in Ghost in the Shell and a trans role in the aborted Rub & Tug biopic. Yesterday, some new comments from the star were released in which she stated her belief that “as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal.”
Unfortunately, this quote didn’t go down well online, to say the least, as many felt Johansson’s words made light of the need for greater diversity in Hollywood by comparing minorities to trees. As you can imagine, there’s a range of responses out there, with some blasting the actress with angry comments and others penning intelligent arguments. But mostly, people just made...

Fun and games on Facebook may have serious consequences for the foolish. That was the message delivered by the Us Air Force, who have responded to a Facebook’s group’s efforts to have 450,000 people storm a top secret military base.
Conspiracy theorists have always believed that Area 51 in Nevada holds information about extra-terrestrial activities on our planet, possibly including actual alien remains and aircraft. That belief spawned a Facebook group suggesting that a wave of humanity could overwhelm the defenses at the base and discover the truth.
More than 400,000 people have joined a Facebook event page calling for storming Area 51, with many more indicating interest. The proposed event is scheduled for Sept. 20.

In 1989, Bob Lazar called into a Las Vegas radio station and claimed that he had helped to reverse engineer a UFO near Area 51. Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell's Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers documentary tells Lazar's story for the first time. Ever since that first call in 89, Lazar has been pretty elusive, only doing select interviews and showing up at the International UFO Congress in 2015. Lazar's allegations have made his life chaotic, but he's ready to set the record straight for the first time. The controversial documentary features narration by veteran actor Mickey Rourke.
Bob Lazar remains the singular most famous and controversial name in the world of UFOs. Part of the reason that any of us know about Area 51 is because Lazar came forward and told the world about it in 1989. His disclosures have turned his life upside-down and he has tried to stay out of the spotlight.

The man whose claims of working on alien technology near Area 51 made the base famous is the subject of a new documentary.
In 1989, an anonymous witness talked to Klas Las Vegas about his alleged work engineering alien spacecraft at a secret underground location just south of Area 51. The story about the witness’ claims went global and made Area 51 famous, even though at the time the existence of Area 51 was being denied by the U.S Government. The anonymous witness was later identified as Bob Lazar. Recall the sensation the 'found footage' thriller "Paranormal Activity" created in 2009, with many believing the film was the best original horror film in years and director Oren Peli hailed as a major new voice in the sub-genre:
But in the six years following the release of the original "Paranormal Activity," Peli avoided directing and instead focused on producing a number of similar projects - until 2015, when he released "Area 51" to little fanfare, receiving mediocre reviews and, according to Box Office Mojo, earned less than $10,000 domestic at the box office (?!) A shocking low for the encore of a director perceived as an innovator less than a decade ago.
But now the film is available on Netflix, getting another shot with a wide audience.
The idea of 'Area 51' as a secret government establishment related to a crashed alien spacecraft has become cliché over time, even though 'alien conspiracy'...

There is arguably nobody who knows and understands found-footage horror movies better than producer Jason Blum, who has been involved with more hits in the last few years than most in Hollywood manage in a lifetime. Blum doesn't exclusively make found-footage movies (he also produced Oscar winner Whiplash), but he's certainly fond of them considering he produced Paranormal Activity, The Bay, Creep, Mockingbird, Area 51, and Unfriended, just to name a few. Although it seems they are synonymous with found-footage horror, low budget movies that will still be financial successes if audiences stop turning out in droves to see them, Blumhouse Productions are arguably something far more interesting. Their prolific output can easily be read as an updating of Roger Corman’s low budget exploitation aesthetic for the 21st century, albeit one that reflects pop culture’s increasingly low standards when it comes to genre filmmaking. After all, Corman-produced films helped launch the filmmaking careers of Scorsese, Cameron and Coppola, among dozens more, whereas Blumhouse acts as a low-budget home for directors whose bigger budget movies have critically and commercially underwhelmed.
It is the rare studio that can take successful auteurs like Barry Levinson or M. Night Shymalan and reduce them to directing found footage horror, rather then working the other way round and using these projects to give them their initial big break.
