Another Lego Movie Has Just Been Announced (But This 1 Detail Has Us Worried)
Image
A fifth Lego movie is now in development at Universal. The update comes over a decade after the first theatrical Lego movie hit theaters to near-universal acclaim.

According to Deadline, Inner Child is in early development at Universal and The Lego Group. The movie, described as "an elevated Lego comedy," hails from the mind of James Morosini, the actor/filmmaker behind the underrated 2022 comedy film I Love My Dad starring Patton Oswalt. While Morosini making a Lego movie is exciting in its own right, there is still cause for concern, as Deadline notes that the filmmaker's original script for Inner Child had nothing to do with the popular construction toy. Morosini's original script was considered edgier and was written for live-action. It was only after Universal snapped up the script that the decision was made to rework Inner Child as a project befitting the Lego brand. At this time, it...

Universal & The Lego Group Developing Comedy ‘Inner Child’ From James Morosini
Image
Exclusive: Inner Child, an elevated Lego comedy from James Morosini, is in early development at Universal and The Lego Group, sources tell Deadline.

Reps for Lego and Universal declined comment, but sources close to the project said Lego Group will produce. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

The origin story here is interesting in that the project originated as an original spec from Morosini that had nothing to do with the Lego universe. It was originally a bit of an edgier concept, written for live-action. But since falling for the script and snapping it up, execs at Universal and Lego Group have elected to take the material in a direction, visually and otherwise, befitting the Lego brand.

First introduced in Denmark in 1932, the Lego brand has continued to engage audiences around the world by expanding into feature films more than a decade ago. In 2020, Universal closed a five-year exclusive...

Watch The Teaser Trailer For ‘Terrestrial’
Jermaine Fowler
Not long ago, Allen was a struggling science-fiction writer trying to get his work seen and his voice heard. But now he’s living high in the Hollywood Hills in a big mansion with a fountain, a vintage Mustang, and a room devoted to The Neptune Cycle, the classic science-fiction novels written by Allen’s hero, S.J. Purcell. Allen’s friends Maddie, Ryan and Vic have come to visit and celebrate Allen’s big book and movie deal, but they’re quick to believe his out-of-nowhere good fortune may be too good to be true. And Allen’s erratic behaviour isn’t helping matters any; he’s coming across as sad, paranoid, and delusional, not like someone who’s about to hit the big time. Is it writer’s block? Or maybe they picked the wrong time to visit? And maybe they weren’t the only ones?

Image
Rhenzy Feliz walked into West Hollywood’s Soho House Holloway on Wednesday for The Hollywood Reporter’s Next Gen bash in partnership with Instagram and Waymo, posed for a couple of photos and then managed to perfectly capture the spirit of the celebration in a few short sentences.

“We’re surrounded by so many people who really care about this thing,” explained The Penguin breakout of this thing called entertainment. “People who are passionate about what we’re doing and the future of what it might look like. It’s exciting to even be a part of the conversation.”

Over the actor’s shoulder, there were plenty of exciting conversations happening between creatives, creators, executives and actors, all of whom had been singled out as the future of Hollywood by this publication as part of the annual (and coveted) Next Gen lists. It's What's Inside Writer/Director Greg Jardin On Balancing Comedy With Horror In Netflix's Body-Swapping Movie
Image
The body-swapping genre is getting a fresh and energetic twist with Greg Jardin's It's What's Inside. The sci-fi horror-comedy serves as Jardin's feature directorial debut, with the filmmaker having previously made a name for himself as a director both in shorts and in music videos. Some of Jardin's more notable previous productions include the teaser promos for Netflix's 13 Reasons Why seasons 2 and 3, When They See Us and Colin in Black & White: The Path is Power, as well as the short film teaser Cowboy Bebop: The Lost Session for the streamer's live-action adaptation.

Jardin wears the hats of writer, director and editor for the movie, with It's What's Inside focusing on Shelby, Cyrus, Reuben, Dennis, Nikki, Brooke, Maya and Forbes, a group of friends who reunite at Reuben's family home to celebrate his upcoming wedding. Forbes, who has been estranged from the group since college when a...

It's What's Inside's O'Grady, Morosini, Hardesty & Thompson On Unique Rehearsal For Body-Swapping Comedy
Image
A group of college friends' reunion party becomes a more surreal adventure when one person finds a mind-bending device in It's What's Inside. The group is composed of Shelby, Cyrus, Reuben, Dennis, Nikki, Brooke and Maya, who come back together at Reuben's family home to celebrate his upcoming nuptials. Initially planning a night of relaxation and nostalgic reflections on their friendship, the arrival of their estranged group member, Forbes, brings with it a machine that allows them all to swap bodies, which subsequently becomes a dangerous game that leads to long-hidden secrets and biases.

Forbes is brought to life in It's What's Inside by David W. Thompson, who first found success starring in Macon Blair's Blue Ruin before going on to star in everything from Gotham as Scarecrow to fellow Netflix title, Fear Street Part One: 1994. Shelby and Cyrus, the couple centered at the heart of the movie's story,...

Not every friends group's reunion can be full of nostalgia and love, as seen in It's What's Inside. It’S What’S Inside Review: Comedic Techno Thriller Offers An Actual Out-Of-Body-Experience
Image
Greg Jardin’s high-concept techno-thriller It’s What’s Inside weaves a tangeled web of deceit and deception among a group of old friends gathering together for one last fling before the group’s first wedding sends them all into the world of adult relationships and responsibilities. Reuben, the man of the hour, has invited all the usual suspects but threw the group a curveball when he also invited Forbes, an estranged friend who hasn’t spoken to anyone since a big dustup split the group 8 years ago.

As we all know, it’s rude to come to a party empty-handed but rather than bringing a bottle of wine, Forbes has brought an opportunity with him. Now, Forbes has made a bit of a name for himself in the tech world since the group last saw him, like a Great Value brand Mark Zuckerberg. He promises the group an experience like no other…...

What to watch this weekend October 4, 2024: Movie awards contenders
Image
It’s October, officially known as “spooky season,” a term I just realized I’ve seen a lot less this year than in years prior. Maybe it’s a less spooky season than usual? In any case, “spooky season” means the streamers are putting up a lot of original horror movies this week. Max has “‘Salem’s Lot,” the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s vampire classic; Prime Video has “House of Spoils,” a Blumhouse psychological horror thriller starring Ariana DuBose as a Carmy-esque chef who’s either losing her mind or actually haunted; and Hulu has a period horror movie called “Hold Your Breath” starring Sarah Paulson as a mother in Dust Bowl Oklahoma who thinks there are monsters in the dust storms.

But none of those are our top picks this week. That would be “It’s What’s Inside,” a stylish Netflix horror comedy with a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It's What's Inside Cast & Character Guide
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for It's What's Inside.

Netflixs Its Whats Inside features a cast of primarily up-and-coming actors who help create the bold and dysfunctional characters who participate in a daring body-swapping game. Since its Sundance Film Festival debut, the buzz has been high for the horror-comedy movie, which holds an impressive 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The expectations were furthered by Its Whats Insides first trailer, which shows a group of friends playing a game that goes horribly wrong.

Due to the movies premise, the eight lead actors in Its Whats Inside end up playing more than one character during the one-and-a-half-hour runtime. Luckily, the actors manage to distinguish each character with different mannerisms and personalities. Though it isnt the only strength, Its Whats Inside succeeds because of the strong performances of the cast of rising stars.

The Booties are coming in Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie

The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith, and a while back the movie not only received an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board, but it also secured a distribution deal with Saban Films that will see it reaching theatres on September 13th. In the trailer that has made its way online (and is embedded above), there’s a moment where we see a construction worker played by Jason Biggs having an intense experience in a port-a-potty… and Smith has revealed what’s going on in that scene. As it turns out, this is a movie-within-the-movie moment, much like the Sister Sugar Walls faux trailer that opens the trailer and the imagery we’ve seen from Astro Blaster and the Beaver-Men, which is the movie the characters are going to see at 4:30. Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie earns an R rating for sexual content
Image
The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith – and while he was making the movie, he thought he was making something that would get a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. But the MPA saw it differently. When they had the chance to watch the movie earlier this year, they felt the sexual references in the dialogue were enough for the movie to earn an R rating for sexual content. Smith appealed the rating (and subscribers to That Kevin Smith Club got some interesting insight into the appeals process), but the ratings board decided to stick with the R. They confirmed today that The 4:30 Movie will remain an R rated film.

Smith has a history of being able to get his films re-rated on appeal. Clerks and Zack and Miri Make a Porno were both given Nc-17 ratings, but were re-rated R on appeal.
