4 Pakistani members of the crew were shot by Taliban insurgents during filming. The British film crew were then evacuated from Pakistan, and the film was completed in Tunisia.
The film was shot on the Afghan-Pakistan border, near the city of Quetta. It was the first western film ever to be made in this autonomous tribal area of Pakistan.
The 'Kandahar'' of the film's title refers to, according to the 'Wikipedia' site, ''a city in Afghanistan, located in the south of the country on Arghandab River, at an elevation of 1,010 m (3,310 ft). It is Afghanistan's second largest city, after Kabul, with a population of about 614,118. It is the capital of Kandahar Province and the centre of the larger cultural region called Loy Kandahar.''
