I absolutely adore this show. The characters, the voice overs, the animation, the writing - it's all there. It's a wonderful addition to Netflix's animated lineup, and I dearly hope Netflix will renew this show for many seasons to come. Truly a joy to watch, especially if you are a dog obsessed, NASA loving, sci-fi geek like me!
With the multi-punch comedy timing of shows like Futurama, Simpsons, Family Guy and a lot of the Adult Swim fare, Dogs in Space feels almost a little too fast or complex for kids. But it does truly adhere to being rated Y7, even though just barely. There are a lot of hard sci-fi references and jokes about psychological or 'adult problems' for the parents that sometimes feel a little awkward or over the heads of the age intended- but nothing is actually offensive or inappropriate. There are a few scenes, situations and creatures that may be scary or gross for some kids, but there's not any (red) blood or anything more than cartoon violence.
Captain Garbage is a more likeable Zapp Brannigan, Captain Kirk, and Homer Simpson tolled up in dog form and Haley Joel Osment knocks it out of the lark. The crew are all likeable sci-fi stereotypes, although Ed, who is kind of like the Bender of the crew, is the most questionable character and possible bad influence for a Y7 series. As a rather one-note greedy looter/pickpocket/scoundrel with some other shady dealings, he feels a bit out of place in the crew and show.
Overall, for nerdy parents and their kids who already have some classic sci-fi under their belts, it's a really good series full of good jokes and references. If your kids haven't already seen any Star Trek, it could be a good introduction, and if they have, the viewing will be that much richer.

Going in, I had very low expectations. I clicked on this on Netflix as a joke, thinking it would just be another terrible kids show to laugh at and make fun of.
Yet at every corner, every story beat, character, scene and episode, Dogs in Space surprised me in the best ways possible. The backgrounds, art style and animation were distinctive, detailed and beautiful. The characters were all well written and fun to watch. The story was incredibly thoughtful and heartwarming. I can say with 100% confidence that this is the best cartoon I've watched in 2022.
This isn't a "turn-your-brain-off-and-watch-the-pretty-flashing-lights" lazy kids show. Dogs in Space is thoughtful. And you can tell the cast and crew had a lot of passion for it.
I cannot put into words how much I love this show. I've watched it nearly 20 times and it just never gets old. Go watch it if you haven't already,

Garbage is a narcissistic, egotist with a hero complex. I would rather witness him perform the Loaf's job. No depressing scene could ever convince me that he is capable or qualified to serve as captain. Additionally, you're teaching children that doing wrong can result in rewards. I do not support that message, either. Garbage caused issues even when he was a tea person. Could you incorporate him in the action by not placing him in the forefront? What made Loaf's job not a two seater? When Stella was doubting herself hearing Garbage voice made her confidence. Garbage may understand the value of team through Loaf, could be a role model and help Loaf with his fears. Making Loaf the Greatest Capitan EVER.
Dogs in Space is just one of the few shows to actually get TV right. The shows fits all ages and its really enjoyable because there's an actual storyline. It's not just filler episode that have no context and meaning and some of the jokes actually had me laughing. The animation might seem simple and lazy but it allows for some very quick and fluid movements between characters. All of the characters have their own motivations and owners. For example Garbage is motivated by the fact Chelsea is counting on him to save earth. Out of all, The show is a solid 9/10. Really enjoyable and over all a good time.
