Despite her twenty-year acting career, Jennifer Carpenter is most recognizable as Debra Morgan from the Showtime series Dexter. The show allowed Carpenter to display her wide range of flexibility from a hard-nosed police officer to a sarcastic and loving sister, all of which carried over to subsequent projects. While the role has been her most acclaimed to date, Carpenter has had success in both film and television since Dexter ended in 2013.
Before receiving the part that would land her a Saturn Award, Jennifer Carpenter starred in both The Exorcism of Emily Rose and White Chicks. Both films went on to achieve cult classic notoriety. Carpenter's dark performance as Emily Rose may have well-prepared her for the dismal content of Dexter, while the comedic lightheartedness of the Wayans Bros' White Chicks could have laid the groundwork for the nuance within Debra Morgan's character.

Mortal Kombat (1995) may not have been a perfect video game adaptation, but it did a few things right that should serve as inspiration for Mortal Kombat 2. For how successful Mortal Kombat has been since 1992, it is surprising how the franchise has yet to have a definitive movie adaptation. The first Mortal Kombat film was fun and has become somewhat of a cult classic, but it wasn't a very faithful adaptation and couldnt capture the spirit of the original game. It got a sequel, but Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was one the worst films ever made.
Mortal Kombat (2021) marked the franchises return to the big screen after two decades, and it seemed like it would correct the previous two films mistakes. From great cast decisions to the R rating, Mortal Kombat (2021) had everything it needed to be the movie Mk fans had been waiting for since the first game came out.

Ultra Instinct Shaggy is now DC's new Superman in the multiverse, combining Scooby-Doo humor with Dragon Ball power. Internet meme power brought Shaggy to life as an unbeatable force like Goku, making him a canon character in DC. Shaggy as Superman in the Multiversus comic surpasses his Ultra Instinct meme status, according to Death Battle! research.
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Multiversus: Collision Detected #4! Ultra Instinct Shaggy is perhaps the most hilariously out of pocket memes to arise in recent memory, with a legacy that stands firmer than most, as its become something far more than a Scooby-Doo/Dragon Ball mashup/parody. In fact, in more ways than one, Ultra Instinct Shaggy has become canon across a number of continuities in practically every medium, including video games, animated films, and now, comics. The Mortal Kombat franchise has released four animated films, with varying overall quality and watchability. The first animated film from the Mk franchise is considered the worst due to its outdated animation. The best Mortal Kombat animated movie is regarded as the best animated film, featuring great animation, exciting action sequences, and important character development.
The Mortal Kombat franchise includes four animated films, which can be ranked from worst to best based on their overall quality. Warner Bros. turned down the opportunity to make an animated crossover movie between Mortal Kombat and DC Universe despite the success of the video game. Writer Jeremy Adams, who has worked on both franchises, expressed his hope for a DC/Mortal Kombat crossover and his desire to be involved in the project. While there have been successful collaborations between Mortal Kombat and DC in the form of video games like Injustice, Warner Bros. has shown little interest in a direct crossover between the two franchises.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match was unveiled at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The latest gem in the iconic world of Mortal Kombat introduces fans to a nostalgic trip down the 1980s lane.
The buzz at the Mortal Kombat panel was palpable as attendees were treated to not one, but two distinct trailers: a green band version and a more mature, red band version. What’s more, the fandom finally got the official word that the movie will be making its grand entry on October 17, 2023.
The unmistakable focus of Cage Match is none other than the charismatic, albeit self-important movie star, Johnny Cage. Those familiar with the Mortal Kombat gaming universe will recognize him as a constant figure, recurring in most of the Mortal Kombat Legends cinematic outings. This film, however, paints a different image of the star, yanking him from the familiar and planting him firmly in the flashy world of 1980s Hollywood.

If for some reason you didn’t get a chance to see 2011’s Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur, you should know that there is a scene in that movie that features Shaggy single-handedly taking out a gang of bikers. Not long after that movie was released, a YouTuber decided to set that shocking scene to some incredible Dragon Ball fight music. It appears that the original video has since been taken down, but here’s a reupload that will show you just how amazing it truly is.

Exclusive: Liana Liberato has signed on to star in Todd Bogin’s first feature, Left with Only Rain, with Jordan Rodrigues (Ladybird), Rumer Willis (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood), and Richard Kind (A Serious Man) also joining the cast.
The thriller centers on Sabina Geshem, a young woman reeling from a breakup, who is struggling to rebuild her once-promising dance career. After a dalliance with her ex threatens her big comeback, Sabina goes to a small town to track him down. There, she discovers his new and pregnant girlfriend, inserting herself into the unsuspecting woman’s life, and seeking something other than closure.
Bogin penned the script for the film, which 2×4 Productions’ Dustin Williams will produce alongside Gabriel Francisco and Rafael Francisco of Francisco Productions.
Liberato recently wrapped production on K. Asher Levin’s Dig, an indie feature in which she stars opposite Emile Hirsch.

Between the live action reboot of Mortal Kombat and my growing appreciation of the animated Batman films it was pretty much a given that I would check out another of Warner’s animated offerings, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms begins with a couple fleeing through deserted streets before being confronted by a trio of nasty looking creatures. They kill the couple but Raiden (Dave B. Mitchell; Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous) arrives in time to save their baby whom the mother names Liu Kang with her dying breath.
We’re barely a minute in and already there’s a decapitation and a pair of eyes exploding from their sockets.

When Mortal Kombat II hit the arcades in 1993, it was a massive hit. It took the first game, improved the gameplay, and gave us more of the gore and dark humor we loved. Plus: more fighters, more ninjas, more Fatalities, more finishing moves, more secrets, and better visuals. It solidified the franchise’s hold on pop culture, and even convinced Nintendo that including a little blood and gore in a video game isn’t the worst thing in the world.
Two other things that really helped kick things up a notch were the game’s atmosphere and story. The first Mortal Kombat game felt almost grounded in parts due to its Earth setting. Despite Kano’s eye and Sub-Zero’s ice powers, the otherworldly aspects seemed removed from the plot of the game. We only really got a peek at Outworld-related stuff: the four-armed Goro and the shapeshifting Shang Tsung...

From one Johnny Cage to another, Joel McHale is rooting for The Miz to land the role of Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat As of now, a sequel to the hit video game adaptation is not officially in the works, but fans have already begun discussing who could play certain fan favorite characters.
