'Care Bears' Film Reboot in the Works From 'Will & Harper' Director Josh Greenbaum
Image
Move over, Transformers and G.I. Joe, The Care Bears is the next nostalgic '80s toy property to get the big screen treatment. Originating as characters on greeting cards, the Care Bears were spun off into a plush toy line that exploded in popularity during the 1980s. Every Care Bear is unique, as they are different colors and each has a unique shape or image on their stomach that represents their personality.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has hired director Josh Greenbaum to helm a new Care Bears movie. Greenbaum recently won a Peabody Award for his 2024 documentary Will & Harper, which followed star Will Ferrell and writer Harper Steele on a 17-day road trip across the United States following Steele's gender transition. Greenbaum's other directing credits include the cult favorite Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and the adult-oriented animal comedy Strays. No writer is attached to Care Bears.

Battlefront 3 Isn’t Coming Out, But Here’s 5 Star Wars Video Games Currently In Development
Image
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 doesn't seem to be coming from EA, but five major games in the galaxy far, far away are still in development. The last Battlefront game debuted in 2017 and was initially panned for its aggressive loot box micro-transactions and mediocre single-player campaign. Fortunately, the game substantially improved post-launch, leading to calls for Battlefront 3 that look set to go unfilled while other Star Wars games push forward.

In recent years, fans have been treated to some major experiences in the galaxy far, far away, such as Jedi: Survivor, Outlaws, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. These have allowed players to experience the Star Wars universe across numerous characters, planets, stories, and gameplay styles.

The It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Star Who Auditioned For Superman Returns
Image
The summer of 2025 will mark the 20th anniversary of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." The series, which is centered on the infamous Gang that owns the failing Paddy's Pub, helped launch the careers of Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, and Kaitlin Olson. When the second season premiered, the series gained considerable notoriety with the addition of Hollywood legend Danny DeVito, whose mere presence on the series is inherently hilarious. The success of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has led the cast to pursue more exciting opportunities, with Charlie Day perhaps being the most notable of the team, thanks to his roles in high-profile studio films that include comedies such as "Horrible Bosses," action blockbusters like "Pacific Rim," and notable voice work in animated films including "Monsters University," "The Lego Movie," and most recently, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," where he voiced Luigi.

While Charlie Day may be the series'...

Taylor Sheridan’s Next Thriller With Brandon Sklenar Originally Wanted a Marvel Star That I’m Glad Didn’t Happen
Image
After years of development limbo, Taylor Sheridan’s long-shelved action thriller F.A.S.T. is finally speeding ahead. First announced back in 2018, the project had all the ingredients of a big-screen blockbuster, but the industry shifted, and it underwent major changes.

Once set to star a massive Marvel star and directed by a seasoned veteran, the movie had taken a different turn. Now, it’s finally moving forward again, with a different face in the lead. And if you ask me, the shift feels like a better call. In a way that makes it seem destined to succeed.

Taylor Sheridan’s long-delayed thriller originally wanted Marvel star Chris Pratt Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy / Credits: Marvel Studios

Taylor Sheridan, the mind behind Sicario, Wind River, and the Yellowstone universe, first penned F.A.S.T. in the mid-2010s. After first being announced in 2018, the action thriller movie was shelved for nearly seven years,...

Jack Black's Canceled Green Lantern Movie Could Have Changed DC Forever
Image
The Green Lantern is probably the best superhero to be named after a piece of camping equipment.

I jest, of course, but I think even the character's most die-hard fans would have to admit that the Green Lantern is a surreal concept. The character belongs to a corps of high-powered space police who said about the cosmos under the power of magical rings that glow with a green light. Green, it seems, is the physical manifestation of willpower, and the Green Lantern Corps are just suffused with it, allowing them to wield their rings as weapons. The rings allow them to manifest any object they can imagine, at least temporarily, constructed out of green light. There's more lore as well, but detailing every last bit of Green Lantern mythology would have us both punching our computer monitors in frustration.

Nevertheless, the Green Lantern, in all his iterations, has remained a...

How Late Producer Jill Messick First Saw The Mega Potential Of ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Through The Eyes Of Her Son
Image
Here’s a wonderful Mother’s Day story as Warner Bros./Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie flies past $900M: The entire movie started with a mother’s love for her son, noticing his passion for the create-your-own-world game.

Around 2011, former Miramax and Lorne Michaels Entertainment executive Jill Messick was in between producing gigs, and like many parents with millennial young children, recognized her 11-year old son Jackson’s obsession with the pixelated brick-building universe.

Jill Messick

Seeing Jackson’s affinity for the game, Messick was promptly moved to cold-call Stockholm, Sweden-based Mojang Studios to inquire about the movie rights. She then cobbled together frequent flyer miles to fly over and pitch the game’s architect and company founder Markus Persson.

At the time, Mojang — being an indie startup that mushroomed into the creator of one...

The ongoing drama involving “Coyote vs. Acme” is taking another turn.

The live-action animated film — which was initially shelved by Warner Bros. as a tax write-off in late 2023 — is now set to hit the Cannes market.

Ketchup Entertainment, which acquired the rights in March for a reported $50 million, has tapped Kinology to serve as the international sales agent, with Grégoire Melin’s Paris-based company introducing to the film to buyers.

Starring Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor, Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Dave Green and produced by Chris DeFaria (“The Lego Movie”) and James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy”).

“We’re not just bringing a family film to Cannes — we’re bringing a global event,” commented Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment. “Coyote vs. Acme is a true four-quadrant crowd pleaser. The performances are sublime, the world-building is extraordinary, and Dave Green has delivered something visually inventive and...

Beep Beep: ‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Heads To The Cannes Market With Kinology Aboard For International Sales — Hot Project
Image
Exclusive: One of the year’s most intrigue-filled movies is heading to the Cannes market for sale: the former Warner Bros live-action/animation hybrid Coyote vs. Acme.

We can reveal that Grégoire Melin’s Paris-based Kinology will serve as international sales agent for Ketchup Entertainment, which bought worldwide rights to the film from Warner Bros in a big deal earlier this year and is releasing in North America at a date tbc.

We understand there will be footage for buyers to see and potentially a market screening but the latter isn’t set yet.

Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor star in the movie, which follows Wile E. Coyote, who, after Acme products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the Acme Corporation. The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer (Forte) against the latter...

Leaked Images Reveal Upcoming Mario Kart Lego Set Entirely Focused On One Iconic Power-Up
Image
A leaked image has revealed that the iconic blue shell from the Mario Kart franchise is about to crash into Lego collections. The shell is one of the many power-ups that players can collect along the tracks as they race, and it gives players a chance at first place by knocking out the current top contender. That's because the shell specifically targets whoever is in the first place, causing them to temporarily stop and lose precious seconds from their run.

The leaked visual, shared by BlogsBrick on X, will allow Mario Kart and Lego fans to recreate the game's least and most beloved power-up item:the dreaded blue shell. According to the leak, the blue shell, referred to as the "Spiny Shell" in the kit, will contain 234 pieces and is slated for a May 2025 release.

The only thing that even comes close is the runaway success of Ryan Coogler's "Sinners." But in terms of sheer size? It's hard to argue against this video game turned blockbuster.

The movie is based on the video game "Minecraft," an unassuming brick-building game that became the most popular game in history. So, why didn't Warner Bros. and director Jared Hess just call the movie "Minecraft," instead opting to go with "A Minecraft Movie?" There's a very good reason for that, it turns out. As explained in author Andrew Farago...

The Most Popular Star Wars Character Is One of the Last George Lucas Helped Create, Says New Study
Image
After Star Wars Celebration wrapped up only a few weeks ago and Revenge of the Sith has returned to theaters everywhere to celebrate its 20th anniversary, there’s no better time to be a Star Wars fan than right now. The latest season of Andor recently hit Disney+ last week, and it’s already earned the title as the highest-rated Star Wars project ever. Leading the charge for the favorite character is Ahsoka, voiced by Ashley Eckstein in animation and portrayed by Rosario Dawson in live-action. Following behind Ahsoka, in order, is Ben Solo (Adam Driver), Snoke (Andy Serkis), Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), Darth Maul (Sam Witwer/Ray Park), Darth Plagueis, Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley), Count Dooku (Christopher Lee...

Netflix is adding 11 movies and series this week
Image
To be completely honest and transparent, Netflix is adding 45 titles this week, not 11. But 34 of those are the typical first-of-the-month glut of titles to replace all the shows they've taken out of rotation. If you're a fan of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, better catch him soon!

As for all the titles coming to your favorite streaming service this week, there are two major titles that have fans amped up to 11 for their debuts. No, This Is Spinal Tap won't be one of the titles coming this week, but a guy can dream, right?

Some notable titles are hiding among those 34 new arrivals on the first of the month. Just a few of the gems you'll find: the Julia Roberts romance Eat Pray Love, Keanu Reeves thriller Constantine, and Steven Soderbergh's classic caper series, Oceans 11 and its sequels. For those of you who subscribe to the sparkly vampire vibe, the...

The Naked Gun: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know About Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson’s Action Comedy
Image
1988’s The Naked Gun is making a comeback, but will it capture the same magic as the original? Most comedies now feel the need to sneak in a life lesson, and silliness, wordplay, or casual gags have largely been pushed aside. The Naked Gun, however, worked because it didn’t particularly care too much about those things. It just wanted to be funny.

With Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson stepping into the franchise as fresh faces, the 2025 Naked Gun reboot is officially set to hit theaters on August 1, 2025. Originally scheduled for July 18, 2025, the release date was shifted by a couple of weeks, likely to accommodate studio scheduling conflicts, including the rescheduling of Vicious, another Paramount project. Here’s everything we know so far about the new Naked Gun.

The 10 Best Animated Batman Movies, Ranked
Image
If you look at a lot of the best films in the superhero genre, a common denominator is Batman. The Caped Crusader's 80+ year legacy makes him one of the comic book heroes most open for interpretation. Different filmmakers have produced widely different, yet equally excellent, Batman movies. 1966's "Batman: The Movie" is a camp classic. "Batman Returns" is a gothic German Expressionist melodrama only Tim Burton could have made. Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" and Matt Reeves' "The Batman" are both fantastic crime dramas with big ideas most superhero movies don't even reach for.

But it'd be a big mistake to leave animation out of this conversation. "Batman: The Animated Series" is generally considered the finest Batman adaptation ever, proof positive the Dark Knight can excel on film no matter the medium. There are also many more animated Batman movies than live-action ones at this point. Many of them...

New characters were confirmed via an official poster, partnering Sig with a massive Lego Chewbacca, a BrickHeadz-style Ahsoka Tano, and, most notably, EU comic-era Lepi smuggler Jaxxon. Brands Are Subtly Embracing Hollywood — and Filmmakers Want to Work with Them
Image
Before Hailey Gates made her Sundance-winning feature film “Atropia,” the young filmmaker was attempting to make a short film, “Shako Mako,” based on the real-life military training village she ended up depicting in the feature. The fashion brand Miu Miu, as part of its Women’s Tales filmmakers series, helped make it happen. The brand provided clothing, some financing, and other resources, but — above all — was hands-off with the creative.

An Afghanistan War satire might not seem like a particularly relevant brand association for an upscale fashion line, but for Miu Miu, just being in Gates’ orbit makes an impact. Jett Steiger and Lana Kim, who produced “Atropia” via banner Ways & Means, said it’s all about brands trying to find authentic ways to engage with consumers: making content their customers would want to watch, dispatching cool female filmmakers to parties, and using those connections to fuel good PR.

The Best Thing About Video Game Movies Is That Hollywood Doesn’t Know How to Make Them Yet

It’s been obvious for a while now that Hollywood is hoping to position video game adaptations as its next big meal ticket, but — in an industry that’s always braced for failure and blindsided by success — the blockbuster opening weekend of “A Minecraft Movie” still managed to take everyone by surprise. Even Warner Bros. seemed to be caught flat-footed by its own sudden windfall, as if the studio’s recent failure to make any money off a mega-budget space fascism satire from Bong Joon Ho and/or the imminent dread it feels...

Hershey Chocolate Biopic in the Works With Alexandra Daddario
Image
In what sounds like a joke on Apple TV's The Studio, Hershey's Chocolate is getting a movie—or at least its founders are. In a world filled with titles like The Lego Movie, Barbie, and A Minecraft Movie, it certainly does seem like anything can be a feature-length film. Even still, the idea of a movie based around a chocolate company's founding seemed odd, even though it shouldn't be, given that there are three movies based on the character Willy Wonka. Yet, Hershey is coming to a theater soon, not just in the concessions one buys before the movie.

Variety reports that Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director Mark Waters has signed on to direct Hershey, starring Alexandra Daddario and Finn Wittrock. The movie will follow the life of Milton Hershey (Wittrock) and his wife Kitty (Daddario) as they create the iconic chocolate brand and the various philanthropic endeavors by the couple,...

A Minecraft Movie
Image
Over the past decade or so, the bar for kiddie-brand-exploiting cinema has risen unexpectedly high. Both The Lego Movie and Barbie utilised cool writing-directing talent to push meta self-knowingness to new levels, delivering some great jokes and songs while also saying something meaningful. How do you follow that? For A Minecraft Movie, as its definite-article-avoiding title suggests, the answer is to not even bother trying.

This isn’t to say it’s lacking in energy. It is loud in all senses, from the hideous hot pink of Jason Momoa’s tasselled leather jacket to the over-emphatic, pantomimey delivery of every single Jack Black line. Its brisk running time is rammed with garish, square-ish action, taking in such nonsense as a B-52’s-soundtracked aerial chase scene involving fireball-spitting squid balloons, and a wrestling match in which Momoa fights a baby zombie riding a chicken.

The visual equivalent of being pelted with boiled sweets.

A Royal Rebel Wilson Demands Your Attention in New 'Juliet & Romeo' Images [Exclusive]
Image
Rebel Wilson has sung, danced, and made viewers laugh through films like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect, and now, she's royally dressed to kill. Collider can share an exclusive first look at the multi-talented actress in Juliet & Romeo, a new take on the classic Shakespeare romance that gives it a musical update like never before with a revamped pop soundtrack. The award-winning Wilson plays Lady Capulet, who appears confident and stunning in a flowing red dress complete with a golden headpiece that helps her stand out even in a sophisticated ballroom. Along with the other image, it's a showcase of the glamorous costumes and settings within writer-director Timothy Scott Bogart’s vision of Verona.

Rather than adapting the story of Romeo & Juliet as told by Shakespeare, Juliet & Romeo is directly based on the 1301 story that inspired the legendary tragedy. It's meant to kick off a trilogy of musical...

Extended ‘Project Hail Mary’ trailer screens at CinemaCon: Ryan Gosling tries to save the universe for Lord and Miller
Image
Amazon MGM Studios started its inaugural CinemaCon presentation with a bang: the first trailer for Project Hail Mary, a new science-fiction feature from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.

The movie is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian) with a script from Drew Goddard. As revealed in the trailer — and likely familiar to anyone who has read Weir’s best-selling book — Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher-turned-astronaut sent on a longshot mission to save the planet as the sun begins to die. Ryland, the lone survivor of the trip, eventually comes face-to-face with an alien who similarly wants to save the universe.

The trailer, set to Harry Styles’s “Sign of the Times,” showcased Lord and Miller’s bold vision and blended science-fiction spectacle and future dread straight out of Interstellar with Ridley Scott's The Martian—not a...

Ryan Gosling Plays a Nerdy Scientist on a Suicidal Space Mission in ‘Project Hail Mary’ CinemaCon Trailer: ‘I Put the Not in Astronaut’
Image
Ryan Gosling, looking very nerdy and quite un-Ken-like, plays a science teacher turned grudging astronaut in “Project Hail Mary,” a sci-fi adventure that Amazon MGM Studios teased during its presentation to theater owners at CinemaCon on Wednesday.

“I put the ‘not’ in astronaut,” Gosling tells the government handler (Sandra Hüller) who has tapped him to undertake a suicidal space mission. “I can’t even moonwalk.”

The film, an adaptation of Andy Weir’s best-selling novel of the same name, follows an ordinary man who is told he has what it takes to go into the outer reaches of the universe. “You have the right stuff,” Gosling tells Hüller. “I have the wrong stuff.”

He may be reluctant, but the situation is dire. A catastrophic event threatens life as he knows it. “The world is counting on you,” Hüller tells him.

The trailer that Amazon MGM Studios shared shows Gosling and his small team in space,...

A Minecraft Movie Gets Polarizing Rotten Tomatoes Score, but Critics Agree on 1 Controversial Aspect
Image
Video game adaptations are a big gamble. The IPs usually come with a big, loyal fanbase that won't allow their favorite video game to be disrespected, which comes with a lot of pressure for the studios. However, when it works out, it leads to a wonderful relationship between the fans and the adaptation.

The latest video game adaptation is A Minecraft Movie. The film is based on the iconic Minecraft game, which Microsoft released in 2011. The adaptation, which comes from Warner Bros., stars Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and Jack Black, and the road to the premiere was paved with reluctance from the fans. Ahead of the film's premiere on Apr. 4, A Minecraft Movie debuted with mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but praised exactly what fans were fearing: Jack Black's acting. It's resulted in a polarizing score of 53%.

A Minecraft Movie's first reviews are encouraging. Most reviews praised the film's charm and entertaining storyline,...

Since the Star Wars acquisition by Disney in 2012, rumors have circulated about the possibility of a Marvel-style What If...? story for the galaxy far, far away. Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy was an official testing of the waters and was critically acclaimed as a "fabulous multiverse frolic" by Space.com and hailed as "one of the best uses of the multiverse we've seen in a while" by entertainment writers at IGN.

Today, we have discovered that Disney shares the opinion of many fans that the overtired and underwhelming franchise needs to take a break from the prequels to Rogue One and sequels to The Clone Wars and delve into what fans have been demanding: J.J. Abrams and the power of the Dark Side.
