Decent Thriller - 7/10

I felt this as a decent thriller. Kept me engaged till the end. Story is not perfect, there is slight lag in the beginning and some confusion towards the end, but still keeps us in edge of the seat.

I watched the movie without watching any reviews, so it was a good experience. If you are planning to watch it, I would recommend watching it without watching any YouTube reviews as I seen some spoilers in some reviews.

Classic whodunnit!

Its a classic whodunnit movie with right amount of twist and turns. Movie is well made and most of the cast have done good with their performances though some standout as too comical to me. If you like a classic mystery whodunnit gener movies you will not be disappointed by this. Some of the twists are predictable but overall the movie is entertaining. It has some inspiration from Perfect Strangers movie .

Jeethu Joseph forms a clean mystery thriller out of dirty characters.

12th Man (2022) : Brief Review -

Jeethu Joseph forms a clean mystery thriller out of dirty characters. My instant memory of any mystery thriller having a roundtable investigation takes me back to William Powell's "The Thin Man" (1934). The next best thing I remember is Sidney Lumet's iconic "12 Angry Men" (1957). No matter how many films I have seen that came later, these two always stand on top, and I don't really think that any film will come up to this level. Jeethu Joseph's 12th Man has a similar theme but is set in an entirely different atmosphere and tone. The murder mystery starts with an interesting idea of exposing secrets, which seems far better than how other murder mysteries begin. The whole concept starts off on a clean note, or better yet, I say, with clean characters, but that's just an illusion. As we know, everyone has some secrets that they cannot share with their friends, partners, or family members, but this film makes it look so serious. Everyone among those 10 culprits and even the 11th dead person has something to hide, and it makes every character look very dirty. You lose connect and sympathy towards them, and that's the biggest issue with the film. Be it any character, a good friend, a loyal partner-male or female-or a friend of your partner, every single soul is impure. The plot reveals many filthy secrets, but the reactions on screen are too mild, while off screen, you as an audience start doubting the reliability of all the characters. However, the narrative has many twists and keeps you guessing throughout the two hours (out of 160 minutes) once the investigation begins. Mohanlal as the cop is good, and the other actors have done a decent job despite the busy and alternative framework. Joseph's thriller may not please your heart, but it definitely feeds your brain enough. Overall, a nice attempt despite the bad surroundings. Lotus in the mud, I guess.

RATING - 6.5/10*

Suspenseful Experience with an unacceptable story

12th Man starring Mohanlal in lead role released on Disney+ Hotstar..

Directed by Jeetu Joseph, Penned by Krishnakumar. Bankrolled by Aashirwad Cinemas....

Verdict of the Movie: A Watchable movie...

After Drishyam, Drishyam 2 , Mohanlal- Jeetu Joseph combo 🔥🔥... Expectations at the top...12th man from the thrilling point of view had kept upto the level of expectations....

Plot of the Movie: A Group of 11 friends comes to a resort of Idukki to celebrate their bachmate bachelor party..But on that ill-fated night a murder happens of their mate which overall changes the ambience & Mohnalal who was initially portaryed as a nuisance to the guests but later realises he is the police officer and then how he investigates the case forms the rest part of the story....

Positivity of the Movie:

1) A suspenseful moment was able to create from the time of the crime till his final blow whistle....

2) Unpredictable person as the culprit was an another highlight...

3) Mohanlal initially portraying as a drunken person irritating the fellow guests and some of its comic sequences was quite entertaining...

4) Screenplay design was well executed as earlier mentioned, moment of suspense was experienced till the end...

5) Except the title song, not incorporating any other songs was one of the positive factors..

6) Rest artists had done quite well..

Negativity of the Movie..

1) We all know every person has 2 faces, one he/ she shows to society and one which is kept towards them only & that when is exposed through a game there will be many crimes happening in society, but my query who does like that 😅😅😅...No one & here that illogicals had happened...

So 12th man from a thrilling point of view can be watchable but if we see the insight of the story its like a " coconut without a shell"

Jeetu-Lal combo

Yet another winner from Jeetu Joseph and Mohanlal. Gripping. First 30 minutes seem to be a little made up. But then, once tue questioning begins, its all the way Mohanlal and Jeetu Joseph and their sheer brilliance. Got me hooked to the screen again. Expected nothing less from the pair. Watch it and enjoy!

Pretty good

It's a good movie. The first 45 mins of movie was not upto the mark. We do feel bored at the beginning. Mohanlal intro scenes were bad. But after 45 mins, when the movie enters it's actual plot, it's awesome. After 45 mins, movie is excellent. Some transitions shown in the second half of the movie was really awesome.

Close strangers

The phone game is copied from the famous Italian film Perfect Strangers. But still the film was interesting with a murder included in it. It will keep you engaged till the end with Jeethu's direction skill. Some Mohanlal scenes were usual cliche but overall it felt different. All the youngsters did a great job.

Excellent

A decent investigative thriller from the Jeethu Joseph stable replete with twists and turns. Mohanlal and the rest of the cast did full justice to their roles. I thought Anusree was especially good in her role. It does get a bit confusing here and there with the multitude of twists and careful concentration is needed to join all the pieces together. It was not easy to digest like Drishyam which is the only negative I have to say about the movie. Definitely recommended.

Not too gripping, worth a one time watch

I felt the build up was deliberate, did not flow naturally.

Mohanlalz entry scene as a drunk and interfering with a group of people was little overboard. I thought that was intentional to begin with, but it wasnt.

The investigation was good and twisty though.

Overall, Not upto the mark in my opinion, but worth a one time watch.

A middling murder mystery with a tepid climax! [+50%]

While I admire Jeethu Joseph's presentation and choice of transitions used (except on a few occasions where they look dreadful), 12th Man takes too long to get to its boring conclusion. There's no knockout punch in this whodunnit - just the same old tropes (like debt, adultery, and cover-ups) rehashed. Since almost 75% of the film plays out in a hall, many of the twists are in the form of expository dialogue (especially over phone calls). I wish all the detailing that has gone into the script to modernize an "Agatha Christie novel"-like setting translated into more edge-of-the-seat moments. 12th Man's script is too mediocre and derivative (referring to 2016's Perfect Strangers) to leave a lasting impact. Plus, there's no Antony Perumbavoor cameo to make memes out of!

P. S - Someone please let A10's scriptwriters know that double entendre doesn't qualify for comedy anymore.

W for jeethu Joseph,mohanlal and k r krishnakumar

The layers in the movie are incredible, definitely an edge of the seat thriller. The first half was a bit slow paced but I never felt bored. Definitely recommended.

A Welcome Template

12th Man is a good entry to the Malayalam crime mystery books as it projects a whodunit template that's rarely (if at all) existed here. It has a really, drawn-out build-up - 11 friends getting together for a bachelor's and ending up playing a privacy invasion game just for kicks - which makes things interesting. However, what succeeds is a rundown version of a reality TV game that gets too tiring and unsatisfactory for the majority, despite the bits of damp execution that pops out every now and then. Still, this is a good late night watch.

Poor script , Lots of unwanted twists which test audience logic.

Poor scripting , sounds low budget . Hard to digest twist . Unnecessarily wasting time . Totally illogical . It's not a worth watch movie . Not expect this from Jithu .

Only part is the first half it's showing a beautiful place . Otherwise there is nothing in it.

Ignore it if you can and save the time.

Engaging Thriller

The movie is engaging and thrilling till the last second. The story is convoluted, but still convincing. One can find similarities with some some other movies in Hollywood ( not mentioning, guess!) shot with characters locked in a big hall discussing and solving mysteries, but is a novel approach in Malayalam industry so far, and '12 th man' has done it superbly. You won't get bored at any stage. Super-engaging and edge of the seat thriller; the suspense is there till the last second of the movie.

An Agatha Christie's film

Jeethu Joseph tried a well fabricated nest, that has many twists and turns. It is an Agatha Christie's styled plot. Mohanlal depicts the role of Hercule Poirot, who investigates as a fairly conventional, clue-based and logical detective. It is worth watching once.

12th Man Who Is The Criminal?!!

Another Thriller From Mollywood's Hitchcock. This Time In A Single Location. Mohanlal As Dysp Chandrashekhar Was Pitch Perfect. All The Other Actors Have Done Their Job Quiet Well. Lovely To See In Such A Movie. Its One Of A Kind Mystery Thriller (In My Opinion) Movie In Mollywood .

The Only Negative Is That The Visual Effects Should Have Been Done Better. But That Is Not A Barrier To Watch And Enjoy This Magic.

A Jeethu Joseph brilliance and a comeback for Ettan after Aaraattu.

A good come back for Ettan (Mohanlal) after the disappointment created by Aaraattu.

The surprising twists and they are presented shows the directing brilliance of Jeethu Joseph.

It's just another Drishyam level movie.

It also has the potential to counter Ikka's (Mammootty) latest, Puzhu.

Decent thriller

12th Man is a slow burn thriller which somewhat manages to keep the audience guessing. But the climax was a let down or not worth the wait. It's a looong movie. Not boring though. It's normal to expect something really good from the combo that gave us Drishyam. Keep your expectations limited and you might end up liking this one.

Somewhat engaging but mediocre altogether

The base plot is a simple setup which we have seen several times in foreign language movies. When Mohanlal is acting somehow the big boss persona is appearing. The story and direction is interesting and the editing work is applaudable. The main negatives are duration and climax. Anyway it's a one time watchable average movie.

Jeethu Joseph salvages Mohanlal's turbulent career

Each time a Mohanlal film releases, I am literally petrified of watching them; given his recent history of terrible choices. Marakkar, the Neyyattinkara Gopan episode were both atrocious. The only reason I had some hope from this film was due to Jeethu Joseph. And the only problem I had with the film was its length.

A trip to a hillside resort ends in a tragedy for a group of friends. But when a policeman staying at the resort starts to investigate, secrets start to spill.

The biggest problem with 12th Man is its length. The initial first hour could have been skipped and introduced as snippets or flashbacks during the investigation. This would have made it more intriguing. Mohanlal's drunken avatar in that one hour is painstaking to watch. But he sobers up really well as he owns the second half. The reminder of the cast do justice to their roles. Sshivada, Anusree standout. Saiju Govinda Kurup, Unni Mukundan, Priyanka Nair, Anu Sithara, Leona Lishoy, Aditi Ravi, Anu Mohan, Chandhunadh G, Rahul Madhav co-star.

#12thman takes a while to arrive at the truth and because of the wasteful first hour, it gets tiring after a while. But the route they take to arrive at the truth is gripping and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Given Mohanlal's choice of roles, this one is a brief sigh of relief.

Now we need to brace ourselves for Monster, Alone and Barros before he reunites with Jeethu for Ram.

Nothing exciting but keeps one glued to their personal screen

The script manages to keep its audience glued to their personal screens. What irritates it's that all the characters including lal are annoyingly dramatic and articulative with their dialogues. At a certain point, you will start to guess the what is coming ahead you will often get it right but still manages to create some excitement, although ruins everything at end. Here the script/direction does the same old mistake by giving more screen time to almost all the characters under suspicion and leaves some charactors unnoticed and giving the audience a hint by narrowing down the whodunit. If you are the kinda movie vmbuff who likes to guess and solve slueths, you will hidden clues from some scenes, such as characters placing their mobile phones over the table, screen time, shallow focuses etc. What annoys me is that Jithu has been trying to copy or even take over Oriole Paulo by deliberately wanting to create unwanted and irrational twists in plots. Regardless it's worth a one time binge-watch. No amusements.
