By now, it’s no secret that Reacher Season 3 has its ups and downs.

On the one hand, the season produced some of its most provocative and impressive work regarding episodes like Dominique.

However, on the other hand, the season has had a Duffy problem from the start.

Unfortunately, at the risk of piling on that last point, Reacher Season 3 Episode 7 evoked the most cringe-worthy Duffy moments to date.

We get it. Reacher is a drifter who traipses in and out of various towns and states. He has a knack for finding trouble and inserting himself into dangerous situations.

Everyone’s favorite hulking investigator is back on the case in “Reacher” Season 3. Alan Ritchson returns as the lead of the hit Lee Child adaptation, which pulls from the 2003 book “Persuader” this time around and sends Ritchson’s righteous drifter to Maine, where he gets pulled into an investigation by a local DEA agent — and runs into a foe from his past.

The premise this time is that DEA agents Susan Duffy and Guillermo Villanueva tapped Reacher to infiltrate a criminal operation run by Zachary Beck. With nowhere to turn, he goes to Beck's and becomes an indispensable part of their organization.

The fourth episode of ReacherSeason 3 was heavy on backstory, but it provided vital context for the season. Not only do viewers understand why Reacher is so eager to get revenge on Xavier Quinn, but they understand all that's happening is his fault. Everything goes back to Sergeant First Class Dominique Kohl, the first protégé Reacher ever had.

Jack Reacher was a major in the US Army's Criminal Investigation Division. He ran a group called the "Special Investigators" who hunted, sometimes arrested and often killed big-time military criminals. Sfc Dominique Kohl dates back to before the Special Investigators were a group not to be messed with.

The Big Guy has been killing it during Reacher Season 3.

Hell, he’s also been easily killing baddies left, right, and center. We’re only four episodes into the season, and the body count keeps growing.

Of course, that’s part of Reacher’s charm.

The third season of Reacher has created an intriguing dichotomy for the titular hero. Here, Alan Ritchson's Reacher has some business to conduct in Maine. He's working with Duffy's DEA team to bring down the criminal empire run by Zachary Beck and Julius McCabe.

However, as with many Reacher stories, he is mixing some personal affairs into this professional job. He has to find a villain from the past who killed a colleague that Reacher held dear: Mariah Robinson's Dominique Kohl, a key figure mentioned in the first three episodes. Unfortunately, as the grim details of Dominique's death are revealed, there is a massive plot hole connected to it.

Setting off Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) doesn't take much. Whether you mistreat a dog or participate in an illegal arms deal, you'll likely end up with a body part in a cast after he's finished with you. However, there are exceptions regarding Reacher's s*** list, and last week, Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee) found himself back on it after being initially scratched off years before. In this case, though, Reacher doesn't want him in the hospital; he wants him where he left him last — lifeless and floating out to sea.

Part of Jack Reacher's appeal is that his background is a little hazy. We know he's an ex-military policeman adept at punching people really well, but in the massively popular Prime Video series "Reacher" we still don't know all that much about his backstory. That serves to enhance his mysterious loner allure, which is one of his most salient characteristics in both Lee Child's novels and the series. As the first two seasons of "Reacher" played out, however, we did get some insights into Reacher's military background and his childhood, helping to flesh out the character without removing that all important aura of mystery. Now, with the third season, we're learning even more about Alan Ritchson's version of the hero came to be.

Another day, another little known action movie is blowing up on the streaming charts. This time, Prime Video is playing host to Dominique, an explosive and well-reviewed, female-led action movie that will appeal to fans of Atomic Blonde, Hanna, and the recent Netflix hit, Canary Black.

Clocking it at a lean 94 minutes, Dominique is a movie that doesn’t outstay its welcome, instead delivering a relentless, action-packed feature that mostly delivers on its promises and proved to be pleasing for the majority of critics and audiences. The film was given a limited theatrical release back in October 2024, but found itself buried by its arrival on the same weekend as the release of 23 other movies, including the comedy Saturday Night, and the box office-slaying Terrifier 3. The film was released on VOD without much fanfare on the same day.

Opening with the implied death of a family of cute tortoises, Dominique is an action film that puts its cards on the table. It packs a substantial body count, and no-one is safe – apart from the heroine of course, as she clearly has franchise potential, and her ability to survive being dropped out of the sky at the outset implies a certain level of indestructability.

To be fair, she was inside a plane when she fell. The shouty men who ran over the tortoises are en route to check out the wreckage, one of them apparently having shot it down on the first place. Inside they find a heavy box wrapped in chains, and though any Django fan will have a good guess at what’s inside, for the meantime they’re unable to get it open. As they struggle to haul it away, their boss smokes in the wreckage,...

Michael S. Ojeda’s filmography boasts three major features, including the recently released action flick Dominique, and all three of them deal with an exceptionally strong female lead going down a violent path to seek revenge against the men who have wronged them. Unlike Ojeda’s last two entries, namely Avenged and The Russian Bride, which had certain intrigue and complexity in their narratives, Dominique is a simplistic, no-nonsense, fast-paced action spectacle that doesn’t allow viewers a chance to settle down. Actor Oksana Orlan, who played the lead role in Ojeda’s previous feature, returns as the titular mercenary/assassin, whose bloody quest for vengeance against corrupt police forces and cartels in a small South American town makes for an entertaining watch.
