If you've ever played cricket in the streets and had friendships built on nothing but boundary shots and biriyani bets, Chennai 600028 (2007) is your childhood wrapped in a film reel. Venkat Prabhu's directorial debut isn't just a sports movie; it's a hilarious, nostalgic, and utterly thara local tribute to gully cricket and Chennai life.
The film follows the Sharks, a local cricket team that struggles more with their friendships than with winning matches. With every sledge, dramatic run-out, the film captures the spirit of amateur cricket like never before. Jai, Shiva, Premji, and the gang deliver performances so natural, you'd think they were born to play cricket (and crack mokka jokes). And speaking of Premji, his "Enna koduma sir idhu?" line became the national anthem of confused souls everywhere.
The real star, though? Yuvan Shankar Raja's music, which gave us bangers like Saroja Saaman Nikalo-a song that instantly makes you want to quit your job and start a cricket team.
With its effortless comedy, legendary one-liners, and a climax more tense than a last-over run chase, Chennai 600028 isn't just a film-it's an emotion. Even if you don't know the difference between LBW and Lays chips, you'll still have a blast watching it. Final verdict? A perfect sixer over mid-wicket!

A movie that when I watch 15 years ago, I felt this is just a comedy movie made for higher school or college boys who like to enjoy their life with friends. When I watch again recently, I realized now this movie is actually a masterpiece for a friendship themed movie. How I felt 15 years ago and how I felt now when I watch again this movie, I can say this movie brings back a lot memories with my friends back in university time. A must watch movie to those who feel like want to go back to their college/university life. And Yuvan music is another reason for the success of this movie.

- TriviaVenkat Prabhu initially titled the film as Enga Area Ulla Varaadha (Don't come into our territory), but lyricist Vaali was critical of the idea, feeling that the title was "negative" sounding. Subsequently, the film was renamed as Chennai 600028, with the idea of including the area's postcode taken from the title of the American television series Beverly Hills, 90210.
