Titles like The Substance, The Shrouds, and even The First Omen and Alien: Romulus are updating classic templates with new, ooey, gooey bouts of body horror. It’s arguably the least accessible subgenre of horror, largely because it targets our innate revulsion. We see bodies in new, grotesque lights, yes, but it simultaneously reminds us of how vulnerable and soft our own bodies are. That’s why I can’t do eye gore, y’all.

There are several classics. Some, like The Fly, are award-winning. Others, like Excision, are grossly underrated. Exclusive: Monsters breakout Cooper Koch has closed a deal to join Anora breakout Yura Borisov and Andrew Garfield in Artificial, Luca Guadagnino’s new AI-themed feature for Amazon MGM Studios.

No word on the role Koch is playing, and official plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, although it’s described as a comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence. While unconfirmed, sources say the film revolves around the period at the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in 2023 that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a matter of days.

Simon Rich wrote the script and will produce alongside Heyday Films’ David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford, as well as Jennifer Fox. The project was first announced in early June.

Mark Patton, who of course starred as Jesse Walsh in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge and more recently told his life story in the documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street, is currently battling a few serious health conditions, with an official family-run Go Fund Me underway to help get him the treatment he needs.

The Go Fund Me has been organized by Mark Patton’s niece Ida Patton, with horror fans thus far coming together to raise over $18,000 to help get Patton back up on his feet.

Just a few days ago, Challengers director Luca Guadagnino revealed his plans for a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' seminal 1991 novel American Psycho. The success of the original film will be difficult to match largely due to Christian Bale's legendary performance as the progressively unhinged Patrick Bateman but Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story star Cooper Koch believes he's the man for the job, stating in a recent interview that he'd like to take on the role of Bateman as his next project.

It's no wonder that Guadagnino's plans for an American Psycho remake have already begun to make waves in Hollywood, given that the original film has become a major pop culture touchstone since its release in 2000. Although fans may have some difficulty imagining anyone other than Bale as American Psycho's iconic axe-swinging investment banker, Koch seems confident in his ability to handle the challenge.

While participating in the annual Citi Concert Series in New York, Rossdale and Britz opted for what they jokingly referred to as the “sad piano version” of “Swallowed.” Rossdale explained, “We’re doing something we’ve never done before, because that’s how we roll.”

Hollywood reeled in 2023. There’s no way around that. From striking creatives to the existential crisis of theatrical futures, this year held the entire entertainment industry in its death-like grasp. But as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough double down on the audience least likely to abandon ship. And anyone who’s actually sat and counted how many annual horror conventions there are knows exactly which audience to bet on.

It’s entirely possible that horror is the most stable and reliable movie genre, but just because its demographic is almost certainly the most voracious doesn’t mean they’re the least discerning. If anything, the list of films that almost made our top 10 would alone be ample ballast for the argument that horror aficionados cast their nets wider than fans of other genres. Take this list as a starting point, and then take it way further than you ever dared.

For many, it’s that time of year where you’re playing catch up on all the year’s releases before the clock strikes midnight on the 31st. Horror continues to thrive, and that’s never more apparent than when looking beyond the theatrical slate. The UK alt-rockers shared the news alongside a new song that’s included on the comp entitled “Nowhere to Go But Everywhere” — the namesake of the group’s North American tour this fall. The track is a heavy grunger with surging power chords and a standout vocal performance from frontman Gavin Rossdale.

It’s a nightmare and Randy is woken from it to start another tedious day at Burgers, Burgers, Burgers. He should have taken it as an omen and stayed home.

As they’re getting the diner ready to open one of the other employees starts harassing him, something that seems to be a regular occurrence. Benson watches in disgust before walking out to have a smoke. Then, as if something just snapped he pulls a shotgun from his car and goes back inside killing everyone except Randy whom he takes hostage.

Netflix has announced the cast of its upcoming Dahmer -- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story follow-up.

As previously reported, the second entry in the anthology series will focus on the Menendez Brothers.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital's Spencer Cassadine) and Cooper Koch have been respectively cast as Lyle and Erik.

Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez have been cast in Season 2 of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monster,” Variety has learned. They will play the Menéndez brothers in the Netflix anthology series, which told the story of Jeffrey Dahmer (Evan Peters) in Season 1.

Netflix confirmed the subject and title of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” in May. This will be the first of the two additional “Monster” installments that Netflix ordered after “Dahmer — The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” became the streamer’s No. 2 most popular English-language series of all time.

Exclusive: Ryan Murphy’s Monster anthology series has found its Erik and Lyle Menendez.

Deadline understands that the second season of the Netflix anthology series, a follow-up to The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has cast Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez in the roles.

We hear that Koch will play Erik and Alexander Chavez will play Lyle.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story follows a successful Season 1 for the new franchise which focused on serial killer Dahmer, played by Evan Peters.

Season 2 will tell the story of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez. Paramount and MGM+ have revealed an official trailer for an action thriller horror crossover called The Passenger, the latest from the genre filmmaker Carter Smith. Not to be confused with Jack Nicholson's 1975 film also called The Passenger. This is a Blumhouse production, produced by Jason Blum, that will be dropping on VOD directly in August. A man is forced to face his fears and confront his troubled past. He must find a way to survive when his co-worker snaps and goes on a violent killing spree, taking him along for the ride. This one stars Kyle Gallner, Johnny Berchtold, Liza Weil, with Merah Benoit and Morgana Shaw. An unsettling trailer that gets uncomfortable by the end, but that's the point of this film.

Blumhouse Television and MGM+ have a deal to produce eight original films together. A House on the Bayou, American Refugee, Torn Hearts, Unhuman, The Visitor, There’s Something Wrong the Children, and Unseen were part of this deal. The eighth film in the series is The Passenger, which Paramount Home Entertainment will be giving a digital and VOD release on August 4th, with an MGM+ release to follow later in the year. With the release date swifty approaching, a trailer for The Passenger has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Directed by Carter Smith (The Ruins) from a screenplay by Jack Stanley, who has had multiple scripts featured on the Black List, The Passenger follows the journey two flawed, complex characters embark on after a sudden life altering event leads them to confront the troubles in their past to right the wrongs in their lives before time runs out.

The BFI Flare: London Lgbtqia+ Film Festival has unveiled the line-up for its 37th edition which takes place March 15 – 26.

Jena Malone stars as Grace, a woman who’s struggling through life, even more so now that her brother has supposedly killed himself. She journeys to Scotland in order to take care of his affairs. But there’s clearly more to his death than it appears and sends Grace on a journey of discovery. What she finds may be surprising to her, but if you’ve seen any sort of horror movie, will be old hat to you. Because unfortunately, while Consecration looks good, there’s not much more beneath the surface.

I really love Jena Malone and could watch her in just about anything.

Carter Smith’s debut film “The Ruins” was a slight dalliance into the body horror genre that was unnerving but also never went “full Cronenberg” in its approach. The film had great actors, and there was scope and intention, but it ultimately felt a bit hollow. With “Swallowed,” Smith returns to the body horror genre with more intention and a unique approach, but, like “The Ruins,” the film still feels unwilling to embrace its many disparate elements and genres to form a cohesive creature feature.

Screamfest Horror Film Festival announced today its first-wave lineup of competitive features and shorts for its 22nd edition running October 11th through 20th at the Tcl Chinese Theater.

The Hulu Original film Matriarch will hold its world premiere screening on October 11 – opening night – before premiering on the streamer for Huluween on October 21.
