Clint Eastwood's dark Dirty Harry sequel Sudden Impact is really a gender-flipped remake of a controversial 1974 hit. Dirty Harry is one of the rare Clint Eastwood movie franchises, but after the third entry in 1976, the star seemed done with the character. It was only when a Warner Bros poll revealed audiences wanted Harry back that Clint returned for another sequel. This saw Harry on the case of a serial killer who shoots victims in both the groin and forehead, and while Sudden Impact is famous for Harry's "Make my day" catchphrase, it's perhaps the bleakest of the series.
Harry eventually discovers the killer is artist Jennifer Spencer (Sondra Locke), who is tracking down and murdering the gang who assaulted her and her sister years before. While the Death Wish movies and Taxi Driver covered similar themes, Sudden Impact sets itself apart by...

You know the scene. Heck, you've probably even played it over and over in your own head, with yourself in the Clint Eastwood role. Inspector "Dirty Harry" Callahan walks into a diner for a cup of coffee, inadvertently walking into a robbery attempt. Wrong place, wrong time... for the robbers. Harry kills all but one, who attempts to escape by taking a waitress hostage. Through gritted teeth, Harry lifts his .44 Magnum and utters, "Go ahead, make my day." From an actor with a veritable cornucopia of memorable quips over his storied career, "Make my day" stands above them all, placing sixth on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes. And he didn't even say it first!

When Nicolas Cage won the Best Actor Oscar in 1995 for his devastating portrayal of a heartbroken alcoholic with a death wish in Mike Figgis' "Leaving Las Vegas," he was 31 years old and soaring into the prime of an already impressive career. He had access to the best screenplays in town and the interest of just about every A-list director. So Cage did what any reasonable movie star would do: he made three of the decade's zaniest blockbuster action movies.
For those of us who fell in love with Cage as the good-hearted punk Randy in Martha Coolidge's lovable 1983 film "Valley Girl," he kind of owed us. Though he's utterly brilliant in "Leaving Las Vegas," Figgis' grimy drama makes "The Lost Weekend" look like "Arthur." It's a brutal, frankly unrewarding ordeal. For close to two hours, we watch Cage's financially/personally ruined screenwriter grimly follow through on his promise to speedily drink himself to death.

Cage reveals the backstory behind his iconic line "Put the bunny back in the box" from Con Air, explaining that he wrote it to make a ridiculous twist on the tradition of iconic action movie lines like Clint Eastwood's "Make my day." Con Air is often overlooked among Cage's '90s action movies, but it marked his second venture into the genre and showcased his ability to balance absurdity and genuine emotion in his performance. The on-set antics of the Con Air cast, including competitions and testosterone-driven contests, highlight the film's underlying ridiculousness and contribute to its cult following among Cage fans.
Nicolas Cage's most iconic Con Air line gets a surprisingly detailed explanation from the Oscar winner. The 1997 action-thriller saw Cage star as a former Army Ranger sentenced to prison after accidentally killing someone and, while flying to Alabama for his release, the convicts aboard the...

This post contains spoilers for the "Dirty Harry" films.
Don Siegel's "Dirty Harry" changed cop movies forever upon its release in 1971. Capitalizing on the "law and order" craze stoked by President Richard Nixon, which was a reaction to the perceived anarchy of the various protest movements of the 1960s, Clint Eastwood's Miranda rights-flouting Harry Callahan fed conservative moviegoers a big, juicy slab of red meat. It also allowed the actor to flourish in a genre outside of Westerns, thus expanding his appeal and turning him into one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood.
"Dirty Harry" ends with Callahan, having caught and killed (in self-defense) a vicious serial killer, hurling his badge into a quarry. Throughout the movie, his hard-driving, occasionally extrajudicial methods, which could've resulted in a swift arrest and saved multiple lives, are decried by his superiors. It appears the inspector has had enough. Audiences, however,...

Hip-hop heiress Coi Leray had a crossover moment with “Players,” a boastful track that uses the synth arpeggios that streaked across the pioneering Grandmaster Flash cut “The Message” to flip the script 2023-style: “Girls is players too,” Leray declares amidst boasts about her womanly prowess and warnings to any prospective suitors whose bank accounts might not be up to snuff. Leray’s posturing and the immediately identifiable sample helped propel “Players” to the top ten of the Hot 100.

Make My Day is an animated movie directed by Makoto Honda. The screenplay is written by Yasuo Ohtagaki.
Make My Day is a Japanese animated series that takes us to a sort of Half Life (the videogame) in a strange planet where a dangerous plague is spreading that will affect humanity. The only ones that reach this place are the worst criminals, condemned and alone fighting against a very real threat.
Another anime proposal on Netflix that lately is providing us with a couple of them every week (Record of Ragnarok was the latest one). This time, a very different kind of offering with much more computer animation, more modern and less “classic”, but will surely find its audience in the endless and thrilling world of Japanese anime.
