‘One Ranger’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Thomas Jane, John Malkovich, Nick Moran, Dominique Tipper, Dean Jagger, Patrick Bergin | Written and Directed by Jesse V. Johnson

Opening with the well-worn quote “One riot. One ranger.” from which it takes its title, One Ranger the new film from action specialist Jesse V. Johnson quickly segues into a scene of Texas Ranger Alex Tyree tying up his horse before rousting a stereotypically drunken Native American fugitive.

That’s interrupted by a call to deal with a crew of bank robbers in an Atv, who’ve left a trail of dead lawmen in their wake. He manages to kill three of them, but the leader, former Ira operative turned killer for hire Declan McBride, makes it to Mexico.

That’s where British Intelligence, in the form of Agent Jennifer Smith, enters the picture. The Mexican authorities have arrested McBride, but won’t officially hand him over to the US or the UK.

September 29th Genre Releases Include Cruel Jaws (Blu-ray/DVD), Pandemonium (Blu-ray), Ghost Ship (Collector’s Edition Blu-ray), The Caller (Blu-ray)
Image
After last week’s offbeat slate of home media releases, things are back on track this Tuesday, with a wildly eclectic assortment of titles headed home just in time for the Halloween season. If somehow you haven’t been adding any of the Blumhouse movies to your home collections over the years, you can now play catch-up rather easily with their Blumhouse of Horrors: 10-Movie Collection. Vinegar Syndrome is once again doing the dark lord’s work with their releases of Pandemonium and The Caller, and Severin Films is showing some love to both Cruel Jaws and Massacre in Dinosaur Valley, too.

Scream Factory has put together a brand new collector’s edition Blu-ray for Ghost Ship that arrives this week, and if you’re someone who digs on “banana pants” cinematic experiences, you’ll definitely want to pick up Agfa’s Blu-ray for Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things.

New The Dead Ones Motion Poster Confronts Chaos Head-On!
Back in 2009 director Jeremy Kasten came to us to let us know about his latest project, The Dead Ones. Here we are several years later and Kasten's vision is getting set to finally descend upon the masses starting with this new motion poster!

Message from Jeremy Kasten

It's been just over three months and we've come very far with The Dead Ones. The battle for this film remains fierce as its controversial subject matter is uncommon for horror and even indie movies.

The Film They Don't Want You To See!

Some will try and ban this film and keep it from mainstream audiences. As the NRA’s Wayne Lapierre has said, “There exists in this country a callous industry that sells violence against its own people. The blood-soaked slasher films that are aired like propaganda loops on 'Splatterdays' portray murder as a way of life. And they have the nerve to call it entertainment.

Jeremy Kasten Needs You To Know About The Dead Ones
Here at Dread Central we recognize that indie filmmakers are the lifeblood of the horror genre, and as a result we try to cover as much of them and their projects as possible. Back in 2009 director Jeremy Kasten came to us to let us know about his latest project, The Dead Ones. Now it's time to spread the word.

Sarah Harper, Brandon Wilson, Katie Foster, Torey Garza, Clare Kramer, and Muse Watson star in the film directed by Kasten from a script by Zach Chassler.

"Filmmaking is tough, dirty, hard, and mean--as well as other words that sound like they were ripped from the covers of 1960s pulp novels," writes Kasten. "It is also, in its purest form, a thrill. Because you risk everything doing something you love. And in entertaining people you hope, in some way, to change the world."

"Although an intensely personal, totally independent film, this is...

According to our calculations, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is currently filming in Louisiana. We’ve already heard most of the actors new to the franchise in high profile roles — Maggie Grace as Irina, Lee Pace as Garrett, Rami Malek as Benjamin. Summit has incrementally added new cast members, with another batch announced today.

Olga Fonda (Love Hurts), Janelle Froehlich (Hacienda Heights), Masami Kosaka (The Runaways), Sebastiao Lemos (Força-Tarefa), Amadou Ly (The Bridge), Ty Olsson (2012), Wendell Pierce (Ray), Carolina Virguez (Matalobos) will join Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and the rest of the Twilight regulars when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 hits theaters November 18, 2011. Part 2 follows on November 16, 2012. Hit the jump for a recap a comprehensive look at the new cast members and the characters they’ll play.

The announcement didn’t specify who Fonda and Co. will play, which is too bad. I’d love to see where Pierce fits in.

Exclusive Look at The Dead Ones - Week 2
Director Jeremy Kasten has some really interesting things going on with his latest project The Dead Ones. Though everyone surrounding the project is still being rather tight-lipped, some of the mystery will be unraveling right here each week.

For the next four weeks we will have two things for you ... one - an exclusive image from The Dead Ones (see below) and two - a code word. What's the code word do? Head on over to the official Arcadia High School website and see if you can figure out where to enter it.

The Dead Ones has been described to us as simply "a high school ghost story". In lesser hands this vague description wouldn't exactly pique our interest, but in Kasten's deeply disturbed and well adept hands? Lord knows what horrors lie ahead. The film is shooting right now in Baltimore, Maryland.

Enough talk. On to the goods below...

Exclusive First Look: Jeremy Kasten's The Dead Ones
Director Jeremy Kasten has delivered the horror goods many times in the past, most recently with his take on The Wizard of Gore (review here), but it's his fifth film that has us really interested. It asks a very simple question ... Who are The Dead Ones?

The biggest thing that has our attention is how quiet this project has been kept. Everyone behind it remains very tight-lipped about what's been going down, but here is what we know thus far:

The Dead Ones has been described to us as simply "a high school ghost story". In lesser hands this vague description wouldn't exactly pique our interest, but in Kasten's deeply disturbed and well adept hands? Lord knows what horrors lie ahead.
