Greet Your Demons, 2025 - A Rabbit Hole Dive

A straightforward film that tackles some very deep themes in a dramatic and thoughtful way. There was a sense of unease that felt thorough and real and proliferated into the storyline. The acting was refreshing and nuanced and felt comfortable and reflexive. The two main characters specifically had great chemistry. The protagonist, who's own dark past and nature doubles as the antagonist as well, felt like a more lost, dark, and realistic version of Alice as she fights her way through a twisted Wonderland of her own making. This internal fight felt real and visceral, and held complexities to unravel that were well developed and relatable. Visually, the cues and ambiance added dramatically to the film and put us in a world aside from the one we travel in. Definitely see these fresh faces making waves in future films.

There are worse things in life...

...than being decapitated by your own scissors - says the guide character, Sharon, to the protagonist. And there are definitely worse movies on the free streaming platforms (Tubi, Fawesome etc) than this. With a lot of the 'misses' on those streamers having bigger budgets and name actors, it was refreshing to find a little super indie like this that actually had a message and was not only wathcable but engaging the whole way through. Apparently filmed on the budget of most movie's craft services bill, this one hit home for a lot of reasons. Maybe it's because some of the "demons" that the lead faces were a little too familiar to me, that really made me relate to the lead's struggles, and elevated this film. Great to see a female-fronted film where the lead was strong, weak, flawed, and commedable througout. Bravo to the cast who really bring this to life. The movie has flaws of course (maybe too long?) but I was willing to forgive most because the story really caught me.
