Argentinian actor Leandro Taub’s directorial debut The Dream of the Guest and Slovenian filmmaker Jan Cvitkovic’s new feature film Mercedes Fire Horse are among the projects to be presented at a new co-production event, the Matchbox Coproduction Lounge, during this year’s Oldenburg International Film Festival (Sept 14-18).
Matchbox’s inaugural edition will also present Buddy Giovinazzo’s Potsdamer Platz which had been the last project, which the late Tony Scott had optioned to direct.

Update: Earlier reports that claimed Tony Scott was suffering from inoperable brain cancer are currently unconfirmed, with Deadline reporting — via Scott's widow, Donna — that this was not the case at all. A full investigation is underway and an autopsy is pending.
--------------------
Tony Scott, director of such hit films as "Top Gun," "Crimson Tide" and "Man on Fire," has died after jumping off a bridge in San Pedro, Calif., on Sunday afternoon, Los Angeles police tell the Los Angeles Times. He was 68.
Earlier reports say a suicide note was found in Scott's car, which was parked on the bridge. The note actually contained contact information, with investigators later finding a suicide note at his office.
Law enforcement officials say that several witnesses saw Scott climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off without hesitation. His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.

Vince Vaughn: action star? If we’re honest, we’d have thought the label would exist more naturally back in the late ‘90s or early 2000s. But if Tony Scott has anything to do with it, Vaughn may well re-establish his action man credentials for Lucky Strike.Deadline reports that Scott is getting closer to directing the thriller, which would see a DEA agent teaming up with a drug runner to take down a drug cartel. While Henry Bean’s script has sat on the long, long list of projects that Scott is interested in for a while now, it appears he’s increasingly thinking of it as his next potential directing gig. Which will disappoint anyone involved with or interested in Hell’s Angels, the Warriors remake, Top Gun 2, Potsdamer Platz, Nemesis and his still-to-be-named Chippendales drama. We’re honestly at the point where we just think...

Both director Martin Scorsese and Tony Scott seem to have a thing (of late) for being connected to innumerable projects at once. The latter, for example, is tentatively attached to helm a remake of The Wild Bunch, Hell’s Angels, the Potsdamer Platz project, an adaptation of John Grisham’s The Associate, an adaptation of Mark Millar’s Nemesis comic book, and perhaps even a Top Gun sequel, at some point in the future.
Now, however, it appears that Scott’s next directorial effort could be another project altogether: Narco Sub, a new (what else) action-thriller pegged as being in the vein of the filmmaker’s Crimson Tide and Man on Fire.
Variety says that 20th Century Fox has closed “a preemptive deal” for Scott to direct Narco Sub, which he would also produce through his Scott ...

The 61st Berlin Film Festival has been a contradictory affair. The city has been buzzing. There has been plenty of star wattage. Madonna was in town to show international distributors footage from her directorial debut feature, W. E., at a private screening. The King's Speech bandwagon passed through. Bob Geldof and Sean Penn have been in Berlin, although it's not clear why. The paparazzi and publicists have been scurrying around in frantic fashion. Potsdamer Platz, the festival's futuristic headquarters, is a hive of activity. Parties abounded. The trade press has been full of announcements about new projects – among them a biopic of Marvin Gaye, yet more Scandinavian crime drama in the vein of Stieg Larsson and an odd-sounding film called Blind Bastards Club starring Mickey Rourke and the rock star Lenny Kravitz "as guys who live life on the edge despite being blind".

Jason Statham is reportedly being lined up for the lead role in espionage thriller Echelon after Eric Bana dropped out.
Almost a year ago, it was announced that Hyde Park Entertainment has picked up the rights to Andy McNab’s 13-part espionage ‘Firewall’ novel series centered on the character of Nick Stone. The British actor is set to play Sas soldier Nick Stone who attempts to halt the Russian Organized Crime from trying to gain access to the world’s largest computer intelligence database.
Deadline says that Statham hasn’t yet signed on for the film, but is looking to take on the role that Eric Bana (The Hulk) was a few months later attached to. Subject: Jason Statham, 43-year old English actor and martial artist
Date of Assessment: January 28, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Action-packed, ass-kicking, smooth-voiced
Negative Buzzwords: Limited range, Uwe Boll
The Case: Despite our subject's refusal to branch out from his action/martial arts/heist comfort zone, at least no one could ever accuse Jason Statham of being Sam Worthington; this undeniable point of differentiation is a damn good thing because, unlike the latter, Statham possesses a powerfully potent personality and an unforgettable prowess. As a by-now-established presence on the action-movie scene, Statham has been famously compared to Steve McQueen, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Vin Diesel, and Jean Claude Van Damme. Oh, and there's one other interesting parallel that's largely been drawn by Statham himself, who has seemingly crossed the line by taking over Charles Bronson's role in a remake of The Mechanic, which either invites or negates any comparison to this action legend himself.

Tony Scott is set to thrill audiences once again this weekend with his out-of-control train movie Unstoppable, but what’s next for the famed action director?
In August we reported that Scott had three possible films coming up: The Associate, with Shia Labeouf; Hell’s Angels, with Mickey Rourke; and Potsdamer Platz, also with Mickey Rourke (and possibly Jason Statham and Javier Bardem).
If it were up to me, Scott would move forward with Potsdamer Platz, which recently dropped its name and is currently untitled. Why do I like that film better than the others? Just check out the synopsis (courtesy of Collider):

One of the many dreaded remakes on the Hollywood slate is of the 2003 Korean masterpiece Oldboy, from acclaimed international director Park Chan-Wook.
Steven Spielberg and Will Smith – two of the biggest players in the directing and acting business respectively - were once linked to the remake. But a complicated series of legal troubles arose last year and DreamWorks apparently walked away from the project which made the possibility of Spielberg directing highly unlikely.
The last (and supposedly final) word we heard on the Oldboy remake was that it was dead in the water. Now it’s reportedly been given the kiss of life.
According to a Tweet from Pajiba, the Oldboy remake is gaining steam once again with three big-name directors being eyed for the director’s chair. Word is that a…

Earlier this year, it was reported that director Tony Scott (Top Gun, True Romance) was lining up "Potsdamer Platz" as his next helming gig and was in negotiations with Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Javier Bardem to star. The film is now being pre-sold at the American Film Market and we have learned that Mickey Rourke is officially attached. We also have the official plot synopsis, which is very different from what we original though the film was about. Plot: Two Jersey mobsters are sent on a simple mission: send a message to their boss's rival by wiping out his Puerto Rican compound. The hit takes on new meaning when they discover a six year old girl in hiding. Suffering an uncharacteristic bout of conscience, they allow her to live. All hell breaks loose when the hit men later learn the little girl was the actual target and they were...

Today we have synopsis for yet untitled Tony Scott’s movie, previously known as a Potsdamer Platz.
Mickey Rourke is set to star in Scott’s movie and it’s official while Javier Bardem, Jason Statham and Christopher Walken are rumored to star in it.
At this point the thing we don’t know is the status of their involvement, but we definitely hope they will be the part of the project as well.
On the other hand, there were some speculations about Al Pacino and Gene Hackman, but these are still just rumors.
So, check out the synopsis:

Because Tony Scott has been doing press for his newest film, Unstoppable, for the past few weeks, journalists have been peppering him with questions regarding the supposed sequel to his 1986 film Top Gun. He's already gone on record saying that the film will be about unmanned aerial vehicles and that it won't be a remake or a reinvention. But with Nemesis, Potsdamer Platz, Hell's Angels and The Associate all already on his docket, it's fairly obvious that we won't be seeing the sequel anytime soon. Now producer Jerry Bruckheimer seems to be questioning whether it will ever happen at all Speaking to E! after BAFTA L.A.'s Britannia Awards, the producer sounded much less confident in the idea that the project will ever come to frution, saying that they've been developing a sequel since the first film hit in the mid-80s but have never been able to get...

Well, we all know that Top Gun 2 is in the works.
Today, we’re here to report that Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will return.
Hitflix reports that Scott confirmed he’s on board a sequel, tentatively titled Top Gun 2, after 25 years, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer at Paramount Pictures.
Scott says that the Top Gun sequel will examine how air combat has changed in the past two decades.
“It’s a whole different world now,” he said.
“These computer geeks – these kids play war games in a trailer in Fallon, Nevada and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones.
They are unmanned aircraft. They operate them and then they party all night.”

So we've already reported that Top Gun: 2...or whatever they're going to call it, is definitely a thing. And that Tony Scott is to direct that thing. Scott's currently a busy dude; he's just announced plans to make Potsdamer Platz and Emma's War, with rumors he's planning to take on Mark Millar's Nemesis, and a version of The Associate that's hopefully not starring Shia Labeouf.
Despite all these lofty plans, it looks like, now that the Top Gun thing is really happening, Scott couldn't be more excited to take a break from making Intense-Denzel-Washington-Movies (the latest, Unstoppable, is out 12th November) and return to his career-making roots: Need-For-Speed-Tom-Cruise-Movies.

Ridley Scott is currently juggling no more than eight projects right now, but his brother Tony isn't far behind. Normal 0 0 1 162 928 7 1 1139 11.0 It was recently announced that Tony Scott, the pyrotechnically-inclined Man On Fire director, would helm an adaptation of the ultraviolent Mark Millar-penned comic book Nemesis. Less than a month later the Kick-Ass creator is already talking up casting, and you can't say he's not reaching for the stars.
Millar told Empire he wants Johnny Depp to play the title character, a villainous reversal of the Batman mythos who dons a cape and cowl to commit crimes, and Brad Pitt for the heroic police officer Blake Morrow who Nemesis targets. "You couldn't do a movie like this any cheaper than $150 million," according to Millar. "It's going to go really big."
While we can certainly imagine Depp playing a flamboyant anti-hero, who blows up a Tokyo skyscraper and kidnaps the U.S. President fairly early on in the comic, Millar himself has a tendency to make grandiose plans that don't quite pan out,...

Tony Scott is a ridiculously busy man. He's just about to bring out Unstoppable starring his best bud Denzel Washington and he's also got Emma's War, Potsdamer Platz starring Mickey Rourke, a modern-day remake of The Warriors, Hell's Angels and The Associate, amongst others, up his sleeve. A few weeks ago we spoke to comic author and creator, Mark Millar, and one of the things he mentioned to us was that there was some motion on his comic Nemesis getting a film adaptation. Millar said that it even had “a director attached that has been a hero of mine for years and we are going into the scripting stage now and hopefully can start pre-production in a few months.”
According to Deadline, that director is in fact Tony Scott. We just posted Scott’s Unstoppable trailer this past Friday, that being his next film to hit the market. There's so many comic book titles out there you can swim in a sea of them. Of course most people associate comics with the two monster publishers DC and Marvel. I've succumbed to their illustrations and story lines most of the time, except for a month ago. Gradually I was getting a bit bored of the X-Men comic story arc Second Coming and was craving for a property outside of the realm of the gigantic companies. I slipped my way over to the remaining sections and came across Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's "Nemesis". Yes, I realize it's still part of the monster companies, but you forget that when the comic's away from the Marvel aisle. If you haven't read it yet (there's only two issues out right now) you seriously should do so. "Nemesis" focuses on a villain who goes on the hunt after Chief Inspector Blake Morrow. It's...

As far as Hollywood is concerned, Mark Millar is the comic writer of the moment. Features based on his Kick-Ass and Wanted have turned a head or two (and inspired sequels), and Millar is even hoping to crack the directors’ guild himself. No surprise, then, that 20th Century Fox has acquired the screen rights to Nemesis, the latest from Millar as drawn by Steve McNiven; Tony Scott is attached to direct. In case this is your first introduction to the comic, Nemesis asks the question, “What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil?” The answer — or at the very least, more details about the project — can be found after the break.
Here’s the official comic description from Marvel:

According to Deadline, the acclaimed action auteur is gearing up to lens a big screen adaptation of Nemesis, a thrill-packed vigilante tale from writer Mark Millar and artist Steven McNiven. 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the title, and the film will be produced by Scott Free.
Released in stores last March, the graphic novel follows the exploits of billionaire genius Matt Anderson, a great fighter looking to exact revenge on those who killed his parents. Anderson also happens to be an evil villain who travels the globe killing off high-ranking police officials. The story finds Matt heading to Washington D.C., where he plots a campaign of terror against Blake Marrow, the police chief who captured, tortured, and killed his parents.

As Col. Hans Landa would say, "Rumors? I love rumors!" Well, we have another one for you to chew on. It seems that Tony Scott is "just a step away" from making John Grisham's The Associate one of his next directorial efforts. The story comes across as typical Grisham material as it's described as a "conspiracy thriller about a young lawyer blackmailed into taking a job at a high-profile firm to pass along secrets to a shady defense contractor." The film already has Shia LeBeouf attached to star and the screenplay was penned by The Departed screenwriter William Monahan. After the slew of John Grisham adaptations in the 90's, it seems like the appeal for legal thrillers has dwindled in recent years. The only big Grisham film in the past decade was Runaway Jury in 2003. With that said, I could see this film being a nice throwback to that genre.

Tony Scott, much like his brother Ridley, has never been afraid to talk about upcoming projects that he may never actually get around to making. When I talked to him last summer he brought up plans to direct a remake of The Warriors, to produce a remake of his own film The Hunger, to adapt the Hunter S. Thompson novel Hell's Angels and to direct Mickey Rourke in the mob thriller Potsdamer Platz. In the last year, of course, we've heard nothing about any of these projects, because Scott has been busy making the runaway train thriller Unstoppable, which comes out this fall with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine in the leads. But now that Unstoppable is nearly finished, as Deadline puts it, "it is decision time for Tony Scott." In addition to Potsdamer Platz and Hell's Angels he's considering a third project, the John Grisham adaptation The Associate, which...

Despite the publicity Captain America and Thor are receiving this very fine Comic-Con, it is surprising that more stage-time hasn’t been afforded another of Marvel’s superheroes: Wolverine.
After months of apparent radio silence following the announcement that Christopher McQuarrie had been hired to script the sequel, news has finally broken that 20th Century Fox have narrowed their choice of directer down to two possibilities.
The Playlist report that directors Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and Tony Scott (Man on Fire) have been selected by Fox, at the expense of other potential helmers such as Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) and Wanted’s Timur Bekmambetov.
With the highly enjoyable Cloverfield under his belt, and evidence that he may in fact be doing a fine job with the Let The Right One In remake Let Me In, Reeves may be the best bet following the franchise’s lacklustre first outing. With Scott...

After a decade in development, it's finally coming together. The French newspaper Le Parisien is reporting (picked up by The Playlist) that Christopher Walken and Johnny Hallyday will be joining the cast of Tony Scott's Potsdamer Platz. Mickey Rourke and Javier Bardem, reportedly in talks a couple of months ago, are now also officially aboard. The line we keep hearing about Scott's crime drama, based on the novel by Buddy Giovinaza, is that it involves two New Jersey brothers trying to take their local crime syndicate international. The blurb on the No Exit Press edition of the the book has it as the redemptive tale of a mafioso who decides to change his life after the accidental killing of a teenage girl. Falling in love with a medical student however, he finds himself torn between conflicting loyalties to his new life and his old Family. This will be Walken's fourth film for Scott,...

While it's understandable that Ridley Scott has a ton of devotees, I've always thought Tony Scott was more than just Ridley's younger brother. He's a bit too adherent to his own style sometimes (Domino), but he makes very solid thrillers, generally speaking, some even better than that, like Man on Fire.
Like almost every director, the more you give Scott to work with, the better he gets. So let's give Tony Scott a family crime drama with Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken, and and French rock n' roll legend-turned-actor Johnny Hallyday and see what he can do with that. No foolin' on Hallyday, incidentally; the dude's sold over 100 million records, and he's fantastic in the shamefully underappreciated The Man on the Train.
The Playlist got the scoop on the Potsdamer Platz from Le Parisien, which stats that the film will get underway in January, shooting in Puerto Rico, not...

Back in April, Alison wondered how the upcoming Potsdamer Platz could contain the awesomeness of three potential stars -- Jason Statham, Javier Bardem, and Mickey Rourke. For sure, it must be a special piece of cinema to lure in this trio, looking well on its way to a Tony Scott version of The Expendables. You really can't do much better for a crime family drama, and the mere idea opens up a lot of possibilities for sweet cinematic interaction.
Now some have signed on and, of course, there is one man who is essential for the mix. It might be nothing more than repetitive typecasting, but at this point, after this many years, it's just expected and, well, required: Christopher Walken.

Last thing we heard about this project is that director Tony Scott wants Gene Hackman to take a role in his upcoming movie Potsdamer Platz.
We also learned that some great cast is involved in the whole thing: Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem and Jason Statham.
But today, we are here to report that Christopher Walken and French actor Johnny Hallyday have joined the cast as well! Allow us to say one big, non-sarcastic, wow!
At this point the thing we don’t know is the status of Statham’s involvement, but we definitely hope he’ll be the part of the project as well. On the other hand, there were some speculations about Al Pacino and above mentioned Gene Hackman, but that’s still – just a rumor.

Mickey Rourke set for Potzdamer Platz We reported back in April that director Tony Scott had picked his new project and now he has four cast members lined up. The Playlist discovered an article on Le Parisien which reports Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken and Johnny Hallyday have signed on for Potsdamer Platz.
It was said that Scott was also seeking Jason Statham, Al Pacino and Gene Hackman for roles in the film, but it wasn't said if they were on board as of yet.
Scott will be directing the film from a script by Buddy Giovinazzo which is being rewritten by David Scinto and Louis Mellis (Sexy Beast). The film is gearing up to start shooting in January with filming taking place in Puerto Rico.
Potsdamer Platz comes to theaters in 2011 and stars Javier Bardem, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Christopher Walken, Johnny Hallyday. The film is directed by Tony Scott.

For the past few months, Tony Scott has been gathering the cast for his next movie, Potsdamer Platz. (Which likely won't be the film's release title.) We've known that Mickey Rourke would appear in the film, and last time we heard anything about it the potential names new were Javier Bardem and Jason Statham. At this point we don't know the status of Statham's involvement, but Bardem is seemingly now confirmed. And new hires include Christopher Walken and French musician Johnny Hallyday. French paper Le Parisien (via The Playlist) reports the addition of Walken and Hallyday. There was a point where Scott was hoping to land Al Pacino and Gene Hackman for roles, but we also don't know the status of that. Pacino is always a possibility, and Scott probably has a better chance than most to get Hackman to appear in front of a camera once more. (Instead of...

It's been a while since we last heard from anything from Tony Scott's project Potsdamer Platz. Back in April, Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem and Jason Statham all signed on to the project about two members of a New Jersey crime family looking to go international, but things have been quiet since then for the long in-development project. Fortunately, it looks as though the project is still very much alive and has just added two new cast members. French website leParisien is reporting that Christopher Walken and French actor Johnny Hallyday have joined the cast. Unfortunately, the article doesn't supply any information regarding who the actors will play in the film, though an educated guess would be that Walken plays a member of the Jersey mafia and that Hallyday is one of the internationals the two soldiers encounter abroad. What's strange is that Jason Statham is not mentioned in the article,...

Last we checked, Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem, and Jason Statham were circling Potsdamer Platz, the new film from Tony Scott. No word on Statham, but French publication Le Parirsien [via The Playlist] reports that Rourke and Bardem have signed on, accompanied by Christopher Walken and French singer/actor Johnny Hallyday. The drama centers around “two soldiers in a New Jersey-based crime family who try to expand internationally.” Don’t get too attached to the German title, as the setting is being shifted from Europe to Puerto Rico, which should inspire a name change.
Scott reportedly pursued Al Pacino and a retired Gene Hackman for roles; as with Statham, it is unclear whether their services are still desired, but it seems likely that one of the roles went to a similarly-aged Walken. Subsequent to the January shoot of Platz, Rourke and Scott may reunite for the biker biopic Hell’s Angels.

Last month we reported on the news that Mickey Rourke may be teaming up with director Tony Scott for a crime-drama entitled Potsdamer Platz, possibly alongside Jason Statham and Javier Bardem. But now news has surfaced that Rourke may be teaming up with Scott not just for Platz, but another project entitled Hell’s Angels.
Deadline reports the news that Rourke and Scott are in talks for the Iron Man 2 star to play Sonny Barger, the real-life tough guy who helped transform the Hells Angels motorcycle gang into a nationwide organization. The rights to Barger’s memoir was sold over a decade ago, but it’s only now that the project is starting up again over at Fox 2000.

Mickey Rourke is ten shades of amazing. Not only has he been fully baptized in geekdom thanks to Sin City and, now, Iron Man 2 but he followed up a flurry of Awards attention for The Wrestler by actually appearing in the ring for WrestleMania Xxv. Now, according to the Orlando Sentinel, he's going to play the lead in John Milius' Genghis Khan movie.
Even pre-Rourke, the project itself should be marked a must see thanks to Milius' name. Even without a dozen other masterpieces to his name, a Mongol epic from the guy who did Conan the Barbarian is fine by me. It is of interest to note that Rourke's name was very recently being tossed around as a possible candidate to play Conan's father in the upcoming reboot.

Taking time out from shooting Greek gods epic "Immortals", Mickey Rourke talked to The Orlando Sentinel about his upcoming projects and revealed a few new ones along the way.
Rourke says Walter Hill's "St. Vincent" is "not gonna happen". Tony Scott's German crime thriller remake "Potsdamer Platz" however is happening, as is a potential Hell’s Angels movie with Scott.
Most interesting though is a biopic of Mongol warlord Genghis Khan which famed filmmaker John Milius ("Conan the Barbarian," "Red Dawn") penned and will direct.
Rourke says “I read his script and you know, the man is known for his tough writing. He wrote Conan and Dirty Harry and Apocalypse Now, and it’ll be interesting to see how he works behind the camera. John wrote as a piece told from the son and grandson’s point of view, how they saw this mythic figure from their family.

We started this report with those words, because it’s quite interesting that members we mentioned, could actually be some very well-known names.
Check this out: Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem and Jason Statham in one movie? Does that sound like a dream team or what?
So, let us repeat the basic story once again. The novel tells the tale of a New York Mafia family who start a massive criminal organization in Berlin at a construction site located in Potsdamer Platz, a famos public Square.
The funny thing of the whole story is information that the script is getting a massive change of scenery; they claim the setting will move from Europe to Puerto Rico.

Back in the day, it was almost certain that glossy action director Tony Scott would be helming an La-bound remake of The Warriors, an idea that I saw the merit in but ultimately despised because of my love for the original. Luckily, he’s pushed that and a variety of other projects to the side to make way for his next picture, entitled Potsdamer Platz.
The oddly-titled film (which will certainly be retitled before it goes into production) will star Javier Bardem of No Country for Old Men, tough guy Jason Statham and Mickey “Career-Renaissance” Rourke. It is based on a script by Buddy Giovinazzo, David Scinto and Louis Mellis, names that are all unfamiliar to me.
Platz centers on the story of the Jersey mob taking over construction business in Puerto Rico (in the script, Germany, hence the awkward title). Scott has apparently been sitting on the original drafts...

He has Javier Bardem, Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke circling--along with three financiers--for a drama about two soldiers in a New Jersey-based crime family who try to expand internationally. By the time the picture pulls together its financing and distribution for a fall start, it will probably have a new title. Tony Scott, brother of famed director Ridley Scott, is certainly a busy man these days. He remade the train-heist thriller The Taking of Pelham 123 last year, then immediately moved on to another train-set thriller starring Washington and Chris Pine, Unstoppable (which has suffered some behind-the-scenes troubles).
Apart from his multiple producing duties (plus those listed on his IMDb as “In Development”), Scott has three upcoming directorial efforts. The first two are Emma’s War and a remake of The Warriors, but the third is a project that has long been close to his heart, called Potsdamer Platz.

Ever since the money to make Unstoppable finally came together last summer, we haven't heard much from Tony Scott-- he wrapped up filming the Denzel Washington/Chris Pine action film in December, and presumably has been hard at work figuring out exactly which swoopy camera shot would make it into the final cut.
