George Lopez is saying goodbye to stand-up comedy with one final special, premiering Feb. 18 on Amazon Prime Video.
Shot live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, “Muy Católico” sees Lopez musing on getting older, Latino family dynamics, generational clashes, superstitions and cultural quirks.
Lopez currently stars in his multicam NBC sitcom “Lopez vs Lopez” alongside his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. The series, which was recently renewed for a third season, explores the dysfunction, reconnection, pain and joy of George and Mayan’s real-life father-daughter relationship through a fictionalized lens.
Lopez has had a career in Hollywood that spans five decades, across television, film, stand-up comedy and late-night television. He has a handful of HBO comedy specials, including “The Wall,” “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” “Tall, Dark and Chicano” and “America’s Mexican.” His most recent stand-up hour was “We’ll Do It for Half,” which debuted in 2020 on Netflix.

George Lopez is officially throwing in the standup towel. The final special from the acclaimed and beloved comedian will premiere on Prime Video on Feb. 18, titled “George Lopez: Muy Católico.”
In “Muy Católico,” Lopez reflects on getting older, Latino family dynamics and cultural quirks, like Latino superstitions. The special was produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Travieso Productions and was shot live from the Dolby Theatre last year.
Lopez’s latest comedy special, “We’ll Do It for Half,” debuted on Netflix in 2020. However, the comedy legend has been a fixture in the world of standup for decades. His critically praised “Why Are You Crying?” debuted on Showtime in 2004 and was followed by his third standup CD in 2006, “El Mas Chingon.” That was then followed by a series of four HBO specials: 2007’s “American Mexican,” 2009’s “Tall, Dark and Chicano,” 2012’s “It’s Not Me, It’s You” and 2017’s “The Wall.

Talk shows are a fickle business. There have been hundreds of talk shows throughout the history of television, and only a select few connect on such a profound level that they stick around. It's almost unheard of to go more than a few years on the air, let alone pull a Johnny Carson or David Letterman and stick around for decades.
The longevity guys will be saved for another list, though. This list is for the celebrities who didn't get a chance to get settled in their talk show gigs, or even leave on their own terms. We're talking about the controversial ones, the ones who were undone by personal scandals and off-screen antics. Let's begin, shall we?

TBS’ new late-night entry, The Pete Holmes Show, opened to 407,000 viewers at midnight on Monday, 245,000 of them in the adults 18-49 demographic. That was below the debut of the other new late-night cable show, Comedy Central‘s @midnight, which premiered last Monday to 549,992 total viewers and 260,876 adults 18-49, and Pete Holmes‘ predecessor in the post-Conan slot, Lopez Tonight, which clocked in 425,000 viewers and 269,000 adults 18-49 in its final week. Pete Holmes, which is produced by Conan O’Brien’s Conaco, only held half of its Conan lead-in, 782,000 total viewers, 482,000 adults 18-49. In the first midnight face-off last night, the Funny Or Die-produced @midnight topped Pete Holmes in every category, including adults 18-49 (393,000 vs. 245,000), helped by a stronger lead-in from The Colbert Report (628,000 adults 18-49). @midnight’s dominance is strongest in the younger demos, as it beat all late-night cable shows, including lead-ins The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and Colbert Report,...

Jennifer Lopez generated huge interest on social media last night with her revealing outfit on Britain's Got Talent.
J-Lo flashed her thighs and bum in a tiny black leotard during her UK exclusive performance of new single 'Live It Up'.
Hosts Ant & Dec joked about losing their concentration after they interviewed the singer, whose energetic routine featured a knee slide towards the cameras that gave viewers a close-up shot of her tiny costume.
Following her performance, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden said: "JLo's arse... I just wanted to bite it! It was fabulous."
Simon Cowell also heaped praise on the singer, commenting: "Seriously, JLo. If anyone wants to know how you do it. That's how you do it."
Meanwhile, David Walliams fell off his chair attempting to imitate Lopez's bendy leg-clapping dance move.

TBS is better known for its talk shows than its scripted programming, with the network's flagship series remaining Conan O'Brien's late night perch "Conan," where he landed after the NBC "Tonight Show" debacle of 2010. And he'll be getting some company -- at the Turner upfronts today, the network unveiled a schedule that includes another late night show hosted by comedian and podcast Pete Holmes, which will air after "Conan" in the slot that used to go to "Lopez Tonight" until it was canceled in 2011. TBS announced still another talk show in development, this one, interestingly, led by Diablo Cody. The "Juno" screenwriter is the host of the prospective series "Me Time with Diablo Cody," which will look at pop culture and Hollywood through Cody's perspective. The "United States of Tara" creator isn't a stranger to the talk show realm, having made several appearances on "Chelsea Lately" and hosted the...

Los Angeles — There's the Al Madrigal who speaks in the crisp, skeptical tones of a "Daily Show" correspondent, whether grilling Arizona foes of Latino studies or questioning the sanity of Puerto Ricans who want statehood in a dysfunctional United States of Sequester.
Then there's the comedian showcased in his first hour-long stand-up special, a tour guide through the life of a family man dealing with lippy kids, urban absurdity and angst. Gone is the bravado of the faux TV reporter he plays for Jon Stewart, replaced by a bemused grin and an appealing touch of goofiness.
Although no swashbuckler takes the stage in "Al Madrigal: Why is the Rabbit Crying?" debuting 11 p.m. Edt Friday on Comedy Central, don't be fooled by his modest soft-shoe – a few hesitant steps toward the audience, a few steps back: Madrigal is relishing success after a determined march toward a place in show business.

Sioux Falls, S.D. — Amid rumors of another "Tonight" show shake-up, comedian George Lopez says he has no desire to return to the late-night talk show scene.
Lopez said he had a great two-year run as a late-night talk show host. But, he said, "I'm out of that thing."
"I know all those guys. They're all good guys, but that's a tough job. There are a lot of tough jobs in TV. That could be one of the toughest, hosting a show every night," Lopez said Wednesday night.
Lopez's comments in Sioux Falls before taking the stage for a stand-up show benefiting the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy come after amid fresh turbulence in the late-night talk show business after word leaked last week that "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon will unseat Jay Leno as the new host of NBC's "Tonight." The network has not confirmed the rumor.

Conan O'Brien's production company is developing a pilot for a new late night program hosted by comedian Pete Holmes intended to follow "Conan" on TBS, reports Vulture citing sources close to the show.
Holmes, 33, was named one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch in 2011, and has hosted the popular interview podcast "You Made it Weird" since October of last year. Audiences may know his face best from VH1's "Best Week Ever" and for his Comedy Central appearances, but many are already familiar with what he sounds like -- he voices the eTrade baby in the company's popular commercials.
HuffPost Comedy named Holmes as a standout performer at this year's South By Southwest festival, largely due to a live "You Made it Weird" featuring Judd Apatow, so we're pretty pleased to hear this news. (Also, we take issue with Vulture describing Holmes' comedy as "cynical," which we all know is Conan's least favorite quality.

Zap2it: What's your main thought about doing your third live stand-up HBO special, "George Lopez: It's Not Me, It's You" (Saturday, July 14)?
George Lopez: I am probably the only person who still does them live. The debut of another dating show may not come as a surprise, but George Lopez serving as its host might.
The comedian and former sitcom star and "Lopez Tonight" talk show host makes his return to television as the Fox series "Take Me Out" premieres Thursday, June 7.

The 58 year old, who also co-founded celebrity website TMZ, is credited with giving DeGeneres her big break as a chat show host after she came out as a lesbian.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, DeGeneres writes, "My friend, producer and champion Jim Paratore died today. He gave me a chance when no one else would. I love you, Jim."

Paratore was president of Telepictures, a division of Warner Bros. He teamed up with TMZ boss Harvey Levin to develop the concept of the news website, and he was instrumental in turning the venture in to a daily TV news show.
A statement from Bruce Rosenblum, president of Warner Bros. Television Group, reads: "The Warner Bros. Television family has lost an incredibly talented and creative friend and colleague in Jim.
