Interesting plot line with a few holes in it. Small cast because they're isolated in a snow storm. Dana Mackin as Molly turned in a very good performance. She was very believable. Zach Tinker as her brother Austin was also very credible. Hermoine Lynch as Victoria is one of the WORST, most campy and wooden performances I've seen in a present day film. It was no surprise that she couldn't convince the antagonist Charlie of her identity in an early scene. She couldn't convince an audience either. Not sure if she was cast as some kind of professional or personal favor, but I am fairly certain she didn't audition. Watchable for Kyle Butenhoff, Dana Mackin and Zach Tinker's performances.
All the reviews I read about this movie before watching it started out by saying "A woman wants to murder her abusive husband..." . However, just a few minutes into the film that plot made no sense when even after a night of drinking there was no sign of hubby being abusive at all. Only much later do we understand there is something wifey blames hubby for although the circumstances of the tragedy are only given passing reference. Some of the character development left us with a lot of questions as to motivation but overall this film was fun to watch, had one unexpected jump scare and 3 out of 4 quite sympathetic characters. I will reccomend it to my friends.
There has been a trend lately (Wilderness Et al ) to portray that women if wronged in some way, percieved or otherwise, have the right to take drastic steps including homicide against their partners/husbands. The justification is that it still is a male dominated society and they wouldn't get justice from the system. The mere fact that it is the woman doing the killing, is suppossed to make the act somewhat justified and the audience are expected to empathize. Movies like this diatribe, will be forced down out collective necks till theat perception is generally acceptable.
However, on the other hand this movie tells a simple story of an emotionally vulnerable and mentally unstable person manipulated by a twisted character to harm her family. A tragedy that is much common in society. The way it tries to portray it is offensive in spirit and mediocre in craft.
